As a Portuguese I really enjoy seeing how these long lost properties are coming back to life... the laundry outside, the trees , the landscape .... all of nature in harmony with people

Its so beautiful to see the elderly Portuguese men work those trees. And their no nonsense old school approach. Reminds me of how my European father use to work. You don't see that too often now a days with the younger generation. Love them. You are truly blessed to have them.

I am now much older (70 yikes) and riddled with arthritis and many other non curable diseases. So living in constant pain requires as much diversion as I can find. It has been so much fun watching you attack the chores with enthusiasm and grit. Enjoy your lives in Portugal and continue on your quest of making a fabulous homestead. Well done!

Yes, that's how you cut a tree. Start with the canopy and work your way down. Maybe turn some of the larger trunks into seating areas/nooks around the property. Talking about property, are you thinking of naming your little bit of paradise. You need somewhere to store your wood as normal wood needs to be dry before burning. Keep safe, keep happy, and blessed 🌻🌞🇬🇧🐈🙏

I get that you want to thin out the oil filled eucalyptus trees but hate seeing other beautiful old trees come down. They clearly didn't burn in a fire six years ago. But you have to do what feels right for your property. I'm sure over time it will regenerate itself and regain its beauty and charm. Seeing the overhead drone footage at the end, I have a better appreciation for your vision. It looks beautiful. Digging Tip from a lifelong gardener: Dig down three or four inches and fill your holes with water a few times (allowing the water to soak in each time) 24 hrs in advance. Let the water work for you. Makes easy digging. Take care you don't hurt yourselves. Glad you're young.

    Fire Hazards!
The bark on the “gums”, which include Eucalyptus globulus, is deciduous. Constant shedding of bark is part of what makes these trees a fire hazard. The bark catches fire readily, and the loose strips tend to carry fire up into the canopy, casting embers outward.!

Do you know the eucalyptus leaves are the best for when you become sick when you have cold ? Specially for Winter seasons are the best.
Just put some eucalyptus leaves in a pot, fill water uncover and let it boil on high heat, then turn the heat down. Let it be 3 to 4 hours , the eucalyptus smells kills the germ in your room, you can also put a towel on your head while you're bending over the pot while its boiling and deeply breath the steam. Youwill see the results, it opens your sinuses and you feel so good and light.

Never understood why Americans remove the safety cover of the angle grinder. I see that on most YT videos where americans use it. Guess you are ok with less then 10 full fingers? And some ear protection would also be a good idea.
And as a tip ... the milk and juice cartons are not suppost to go into the paper / cardboard recycle bin. They have a plastic/wax liner 😉
The reinforcement in axle is the suspension 😉
Fit a jockey wheel to the trailer, makes manouvering a lot easier.

Establishing a homestead ourselves, the first things we did was start growing food, then compost and drainage around the building sites - long term storage for firewood and other wood that can be used for various building projects - goat fencing etc: as we reframe the road accesses and fire safety - just like your format. Then we first built a shed/workshop cause it really gave us a place to create with efficiency and sort findings to reuse such as windows, doors, and keep all the tools organized. Horizontal work space - adequate tables to work on like rip a half a sheet of plywood lengthwise x 2 to make two tables long layout - and put your saw table in the middle of those two tables. You’ll have adequate horizontal workspace for all the wood stuffs you will be tackling when rebuilding your roof, making window and door frames and walls. You have so much great stuffs on the property already and sorting will be a bit time consuming in the front of your project but will make all the difference to have access to useable resources of your stock. It also inspires extra creativity like elaborating on that exquisite red bed frame - love the gate idea! Much love - Coyotes Natural Medicines

We are in Chile and we have the same issues with fires here. Eucalyptus trees have a lot of oil and that is why when we burn them there is so much smoke and its easy to start a fire. We also have to request a permit to burn. I hope you will not have any fires this year. Your are doing the best thing about putting a huge barrier between the trees and the house. We had to do the same in order to lessen the possibility of a fire should it comes again in our area. Great job guys.

Do you know that tetra pack milk cartons are typically not recyclable unless you have a specialist tetra pack recycler who has a bin in your area.
We have 1 who turns up monthly on market day in our town.
It's because the outer card has an inner lining of plastic, basically, infused into the inner surface of the carton. This makes it difficult to separate and, therefore, not easy to recycle at a standard recycling facility.
Same for fruit juice cartons too.
I don't know if what you were using to recycle yours in your recycling segway was a cardboard only bin or specially for tetra pack, but, it's something you may wish to consider in the future.
Also, plastic film wrap can be recycled with plastic carrier bags at most supermarkets (in the UK at least).
Oh, one last thing, black plastics typically cannot be recycled at all.

You may want to look into getting an essential oils kettle for the eucalyptus leaves.
Use the wood to power a stove to heat some water to steam through some leaves and collect the oils which are extracted.
Then, sell it at market or something...maybe, also, grow lavender on some of the terraces and do similar.

    • @weedfreer
      @weedfreer ปีที่แล้ว

@@Mrandmrsadventure there are some systems out there which have a 'kettle vessel' which has a pipe running out the top which feeds into the top and then, via a perforated tube, deep into the interior of a second vessel containing oil producing plant matter (possibly, some barks may also work too, as well as citrus tree leaves which may still be good to use as they drop during autumn or if collected from the orchard floor during harvest), which then has further piping coming out the top which is fed through a condenser (a pipe surrounded by a jacket of cool water) and into a glass beaker.
The cooling effect of the condenser causes the steam to turn back into a liquid as it travels down the final pipe and into a beaker.
Once it cools completely, you end up with a separation of oils floating atop water...which you can pipette away.
I think that there are also uses for the oilly water mix too.
It's pretty cool that you have water freely available. I'd you could work out a way of collecting and cooling it then pumping it though your condenser, it should work really well...and, as a free resource, wouldn't cost anything to use.
Probably could be used for the kettle too if not too brackish...nothing a good muslin filter wouldn't sort I shouldn't have thought

@@weedfreer Very cool! So much to learn about this process. Seem like something we can experiment with once we have our home and living situation more developed.

Hello .. you were using Chipper.. MULCH is the best way to avoid little pools on the way. instead of fire, you may chipp all these brunches. I remember your very first episode when these gloves and shoes were brand new, and now you are a great expert. Well well done

The bars in the middle of the trailer axle were springs for the suspension, similar to what is in the front of an air-cooled VW. Spring steel is very hard, so good job getting it cut!
