I agree ID is one of the best mc's for a dj, he knows how to hype a crowd without overtaking the music. His set with Subfocus at Hull 2012 is a perfect example of how an MC should operate imo.

Nobody gets a crowd moving like Andy 'The Executioner' C. The guy is jaw droppingly good.
Has to be one of Andy's best ever sets, the amount of times i'v put it on while doing coursework, was fucking brilliant. wish i was there, but i get to see him in Bournemouth O2 and global gathering soon. He was amazing at global 2012 also. king of drum and bass!

If you are talking about Jamaican dub, that did have MC's, but they weren't introduced into the UK jungle and DNB culture till much later.

Sub Focus has a song called "Now Let the Story Begin", which he's mixed with "Mr Happy" before. One sample sounds a bit like the Delta Heavy remix of "Must Be the Feeling" by Nero too.

I love the MC- you watch other electronic artists from Hackney Weekend, the crowd is nowhere near as active and lively as they are at Sub Focus- because of the MC.

Fair enough, you have an opinion. All i'm saying next time you go to a rave, fucked off your face, surrounded by thousands of sweaty ravers, banging soundsystem, incredible lighting, superstar DnB DJ's ... when you've got an MC telling you to jump, looking at you, interacting with you, getting you to scream and shout... tell me then how you hate MC's. Nobody ever moans about MC's at raves. They make the atmosphere that much better, well thats my opinion, and i'm sure all proper DnB heads agree

This really could go on forever lol. I already feel like an idiot for arguing on the internet. So I will just leave it at this. I have no problem with other people enjoying MC's at all. I just wish there were a few more options for people like me that don't like em.

All the best commercial drum n bass have MCs Pendulum had Verse, Chase n Status has Rage Andy C Has GQ. If it wasn't for the MC on this video it would be just one man alone on stage stood still. If you count listening to DnB since 98 & going to raves since 2004 when old enough as a "proper DnB head" then i am. I don't really care what you consider to be proper though. Not every music genre needs to come with a lifestyle.
It is exactly those situations that have made me hate most MC's. "Skibba dubba dibba skibba selecta" over the build up, over lyrics (if there are some), over the drop.
If they'd do their thing at the start & end & stay out of the rest of the set I wouldn't care.
They may not have gone mad for the MC but think back. Did either of them have a microphone? (Chase n status I mean) Was it pure silence in between tracks? most probably not, no doubt the MC was shouting something like 'if you love drum n bass say yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!" that's called getting the crowd hyped

My point was about how prevalent they became. If you talking about how long they have been around at all then you have to go all the way back to the 80's.
I just don't like em, and MANY others don't either.
I would of rathered they had just put one camera at the back, than filming most of it out of focus and cutting every 2 seconds like its an action film.

Nah, I've seen some producers live without MCs and it's shit, sure you still enjoy it but the MC is there to get you hyped and moving, Netsky does have live instruments yeah, and he has MC Script /and/ live singers. Pendulum had live instruments and an MC, Sub Focus' new sets consist of him doing live remixing and MC ID hyping up the crowd. MCs have always been a part of DnB/Jungle culture and always will be.
Each to their own though.

Again, wrong. DnB got the name DnB in the early 90's ... and MC's like Stevie Hyper D (R.I.P) & Rebel MC were there from day dot. Hell even Skiba has been in the DnB scene since '92-'93! And dont even get me started on old school jungle MC's ...

"MC's always manage to shout over the build up, sometimes it's difficult to hear anything other than the MC" ... What sorta shit soundsystems have you been raving to? Oh and by the way MC's have ALWAYS been a part of DnB. They were a part of Jungle too before Drum & Bass was established, and a part of Dub culture before that (which heavily influenced hiphop, DnB, garage, dubstep etc). They didnt come in because people got 'bored', thats the biggest piece of bullshit i've ever heard

Actually with jungle, most jungle wasn't performed live, but passed around on bootleg tapes. The very small amount of stuff that was performed live DID have MC's, I'll give you that, but it WAS introduced for people new to Jungle because they couldn't relate to it.
I said before, it's a personal opinion. For me, if the music is good enough it doesn't need a 'holiday rep' figure that is the MC.

I disagree, the actual producers by themselves are absolutely fine. MC's are just beyond irritating to me.
Say what you want about Netsky's latest album not being so great, at least his big live performances include nearly all live instruments now, much more entertaining that some guy jumping up and down shouting "HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE!!!!!!"
Feed Me often get's Tasha Baxter to sing live on his sets. Many ways to make a perfomance interesting MC's are not one of them.
