    Joy I'm so far behind on videos it's just crazy. I haven't ever made a Carpenters Wheel but have made a Cranberry Cupboard pattern 'Kaleidoscope' that is a large block quilt that goes together similar. Your batik layer cakes are so pretty! I'm on a mission to try to sew-down my stash a bit so I'll join in after shopping my stash. Thank you for all that hard work you did setting up and filming the size differences.

    Dear Joy, I just wanted to say hello. I’ve missed a few of your videos and it feels like it’s been forever. My housekeeper/caregiver has COVID-19. She’s been off work for 3 weeks and won’t be back for 2-? how long. Her whole family got it at the same time. We’ve been blessed not to get it. We did have to break down and get the vaccine though. We weren’t because of the garbage in it. I’m trusting God to keep us safe. I got mine yesterday. I just wanted to say hi and as usual I write a book . I love you. Your in our prayers. My little Cami loves praying for you and your family. She’s 8 and has so much faith. So, blessings to you and your family, Lizzy

    Love your scrappy star you showed. I'm laughing about your emphasizing 'easy.' I made one last year with Christmas fabrics. I can't remember how many times I took it apart ,because I'd made a mistake in my row counts, or had the row upside down, or out of order, or whatever, etc. Thought I was going to wear out the fabric first. Yes, the stitching is easy. Keeping track of the rows and where they go, seemed to challenge me, for who knows why. Even though I checked and rechecked before I re-stitched the rows, I still had something goofed up. Thought I'd never get it completed, correctly. LOL.

    I have a book titled Grandma's Best Full-Size Quilt Blocks and the author calls this block the Mosaic Star and I was having a terrible time finding a tutorial using that name until I stumbled across a quilters thread of someone correcting another person on the title actually being the Carpenter's Wheel block just in case anyone else is also on a similar goose chase!

    Hi Joy, I’ll be joining you! I’m making 5 Carpenters Star quilts for gift quilts for 5 gals. They’re all Queen and Cal king sized. I’ve made the huge mistake of asking all of them their favorite color or colors. So 1 is Burgundy and forest green with a cream background. 1 is scrappy pinks and white background. 1 is scrappy purples with black background and I may throw in some lime and turquoise. 1 is scrappy blues and white background and the last one is royal blue and white and on that one I can’t decide if I want the royal blue to be the star or the background. All of them are going to be the double star and creative borders.

    Is the Carpenter Star/Wheel the same as the Moda Love pattern?

    • @debramagginetti135
      @debramagginetti135 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a little different in the center medallion square. Carpenter's Star/Wheel uses a Lemoyne star whereas the Mode Love pattern uses a sawtooth star center.

      No. You can quilt by hand. You can quilt with a sewing machine. You can send it off to be quillted.

    A Quarter Square Triangle is still a square - it has 4 triangles in it, so it's an additional piecing step beyond what it takes to make a Half Square Triangle. Your insert only shows half of the QST block. If it's done with two colors it will look like an hourglass. When done with four colors it will look like four triangles "pointing" to the center of the square block.
    Think of it this way - in a HST, each triangle is HALF of the square. In a QST, each triangle is a QUARTER of the square.
    Hope this helps.

    Well I'm a bit behind here and your shine channel, I'm going at my own pace I've got to leave this situation but I'm so exhausted but I know with the help of the world's greatest carpenter I know I can shine eventually it's going to take a bit I'm not where I was nor do I plan to go back A few weeks ago I got to enjoy the Carter family they've dedicated their lives with serving someone awesomely at a new church I'd been attending be on the lookout for them they're totally dedicated they live in a Class B RV traveling everywhere if you see them performing take a moment and attend

    I’m so lost with quilting 🤷‍♀️.

  • @neda2820
    @neda2820 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh Joy, you cannot make 4 half square triangles from the 10 inch square. You end up with quarter square triangles which end up with bias on the outside and you can never make a straight sided quilt and it will be impossible to sew together. There is a simple formula to make quarter and half sided triangle squares. Add 7/8” to finished CUT size for half triangle square and 1 1/4” for a quarter triangle square.

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evidently, Jenny Doan doesn't agree with that. She is the one I saw do it. She made several quilts using that method. You can watch "Half Square Triangle Quilt Using the Four Seasons Block" on TH-cam and see it.

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jenny also cuts EIGHT half square triangles and makes a quilt called Tranquil Triangles. You can see it on TH-cam.

      @@neda2820 Jenny made a great quilt doing 4. I don't understand why you think it won't work. You can watch her video.

    • @ksharpe8137
      @ksharpe8137 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course you can. Yes, the edges are biased but I’ve made many many quilts using this same method and I’ve never ever had an issue. They’ve all turned out beautiful. And, if Jenny Doan says it works then there’s no question it’ll work. 😉
