OOOOoooo while you were sewing and you made the comment that your background could be lighter.... I immediately thought kitchen.... cookbooks with a mixer, maybe a can opener and utensils( spoons, spatula, cutting knives) Or even sewing with notions and sewing machine and iron. Thanks for the ideas!

Hey!! I don't know who reads these or IF anyone does, but I really enjoyed this. It doesn't feel so rushed like a lot of them do. You don't lollygag, but it doesn't feel like you are trying to get it done in under 10 minutes, either! 😂😂😂
I am SO GLAD you did this!! I've been so curious how to do it! You made it so simple! THANK YOU!!!

This video is truly at God-send! I agreed to make a book case quilt for a family member without doing any research (how hard can it be?) . Then I found myself in over my head. I discovered this video and it saved my bacon. Thank you Jenny!

I have some fabrics that have been folded on an open shelf for years. If there is sun damage, the salvageable parts could become books. I would gave my 2 cats on shelves.
I like the idea someone commented to print a photo. How do the current printable fabr iui c products hold up to many washings? Many years ago I printed a label in black with color accents. .the black is fine, the color faded or is gone.

This quilt speaks to my soul. The vase on the third shelf down, wouldn't it be cute if the top was white. It would look like a tissue box. A must for a good book. Some of my favorite authors make me laugh so hard my eyes tear up.

My sister made this quilt for her daughter for Christmas (she hasn't seen it yet). Thanks for the suggestion about the tissue box. My contribution was a flower vase but with bigger flowers on stems and a tissue box with white tissues coming out of it. Everyone at the quilt shop where sister quilted it was completely enchanted by the tissue box! Thanks again for the suggestion.

Gorgeous quilt! I wondered to myself "what would I put on my bookshelves?" I looked at one in the room and realized I have family pictures on all of my bookshelves. Wouldn't it be cool to print a picture onto fabric and make a little frame around it and add it to your bookshelf? Especially if you were gifting the quilt you could make the picture personal to the recipient! Such fun ideas!

Ha! I made a much more complicated bookshelf making it unique to me by putting a coffee pot and cups, a vase with many different flowers which I did a bit of embroidery on, a framed photo of my husband and I with my parents, my beloved cat (who is now no longer with us), and a clock showing the exact time I was born. I also used some fluffy pink fabrics to make a small flamingo as that word is in the title of the company that I love working for. Also, on the books I sewed on words and/or phrases which I cut from selvedges. (Never throw selvedges away if they have writing on!). I love umbrellas so I have a row of books with selvedges sewn onto them that say Parasols, Splish Splash, Rain, Sunshine in the Rain, etc. It took years to find fabrics with these selvedges! There are sew many things you can do to personalise your quilt. ‘Funny’ that Jenny made the word Read for hers as that was my maiden name and with my initial I couldn’t really escape away from making a bookcase quilt!! Jenny’s quilt is super easy and effective so do give it a go.

Thank you! Btw, I didn’t mean my first sentence to sound like I was putting Jenny’s quilt down in any way. I meant that I wish I could have seen her version before I made mine which took me five months (part-time) to make. My initial is ‘I’, so I Read. Alas, I don’t think I can put a photo on here but if I could, I wouldn’t know how to. x

This is a must for me, I am an avid reader. Having a quilt covered in books is a dream. Love it.

Lovely. Simply lovely. Going to start this weekend. I have plenty of scraps. I like Julie idea with personal picture 😃. I need to make at least 8 quilts. Thanks.. Chicago quilt mom

Love this quilt! I wish I could make it for my daughter who is a High School English teacher. I've been ill and not able to quilt anymore. I was prescribed medication that made my fingers and hands go numb and I can't feel anything and they hurt 24/7. I also need hip replacement surgery and no telling when I'll be able to get it done because of Covid . It just kills my soul that I can't hold a rotary cutter or scissors. I miss touching all my beautiful fabrics, can't feel them. I have so many Kaffe fat quarters and ten inch squares that would look beautiful in that quilt.

Your comment broke my heart. I have MS. I am still able to sew and cut my pieces, but it fear that eventually the disease will progress. I truly understand how much losing your ability has affected you. I pray that you will find something new that can bring you some joy.

My heart goes out to you. It must be so difficult not to be able to do what you love. ❤

That is really sad. Can you get a cutting machine?

I’m so sorry you are not doing well and in constant pain. Might you have someone who could do the cutting for you? Maybe you’d be able to sew it together.

This is brilliant! Your approach makes a bookcase quilt (which I have felt daunted by) feel doable! I’m excited to start planning mine. Thank you so much. I love all your videos but this one is extra special 💙

Me too! I always wanted to make one but thought it would be too hard, Jenny makes it look so easy, she's such an inspiration!
