As usual, a story well told of a town that managed to survive. And as usual, this story of Martha Dandridge led me to Wikipedia and a whole lot of history which had passed me by...her story is well worth knowing, even with her being eclipsed by her second husband George and his fame...

Donnie, I love your videos of east TN! My oldest son moved to Knoxville in 2001 to go to work for Buddy Gregg (he still works there today). He now lives in Lenoir City with his wife and little girl. My late husband and I first visited east TN in 2001, and I quickly fell in love with the area. We have explored many places back there over the years, including Dandridge, Kingston, Morristown, and one of my personal favorite places in the Smokies, Cades Cove. I will be returning to visit in July, 2023. I am looking forward to 3 weeks with my firstborn and his family. Thank you and keep those wonderful videos comin'!!

I just drove past Buddy Gregg in Knoxville last week and I guess they’ve sold to another RV corporation, whose name I’ve already forgotten. There’s another in Strawberry Plains. I hope your son kept his job intact.

Hello again Donnie. Several years ago I spent a week in Dandridge. We rented a boat and went out fishing. There is some good fishing on that lake. On the fifth day there I got to feeling really bad so I stayed back at the cabin. Later in the evening They sent a rescue squad to get me I was in so much pain. They took me to the hospital and come to find out I passed a kidney stone. Needless to say my fishing was over for a few days...lol...It is truly a great place. The doctors was wonderful also the people at the cabin. I really enjoyed my time there spite of all. Great video and I thank you again for the videos.

So happy when I saw this!!
My daughter and I were blessed to have found a home to buy in this beautiful lil town.
I'm raised and retired FL and now living my childhood dream on The Lakeside of the Smokies. Learning all I can about our community and Appalachia as a whole as my grandbabies will grow up here.

Yep, there's still alot intact under our lakes. I can absolutely speak for middle Tn on that. We used to receive warnings from the core , not to jump off houseboats due to people hitting old chimneys. (Edit : That was on percy priest near a popular party cove about a mile up from elm hill marina.)

Great and interesting video as always Donnie! Thank you. Very historic indeed. There is a strong argument that the ancient Indian town of Chiaha may have been located up from the dam (Zimmermans Island) and was visited by Hernando De Soto and Juan Pardo, Spanish Conquistadores around 1540 to 1567. Unfortunately, researched somewhat ended with the construction of the dam.

That is a beautiful town and artifacts you shared with us today Donnie. I'm fixing to retire in a out 60 days. One of the first place I wa t to visit is Kentucky and Tennessee. Like to spend a couple of weeks in the smokey mountains. After 42 years in the gas and oil I'm ready to han it up. Thanks for all the work you share with us my friend. Maybe on my way down I'll run into you somewhere. My wife enjoys your videos too.

Love this town, visit it often and not far from us. The husband and I figured you would of went in the old pharmacy there and told about the good food they serve and it's history. We really enjoyed this story.

We traveled through Dandridge last year by accident after we stopped to visit the Bush's Bean factory. The best part was having a bible burger for lunch at the drug store! Thanks for sharing this story.

good video when they built the lake here they paid very little for land. i had a friend that went back to farm as it was filling up watched water go over the house, barns, old car and his grandma and grandpa graves. he said it hurt his mom and dad so much they never went back there. thank you for video glad they saved Dandridge . take care, be safe and well.
