as a landlord not in Florida if they are Forced to provide A/C tenants will abuse the privilege by turning it down ridiculously low thereby making the overall bill high for the landlord. Next time their lease is up for renewal the landlord will increase their rent significantly. I personally don’t pay my tenants utilities thereby making them more responsible.
1) Idiot landlords who pay utilities at hiked rates are idiots. Don’t be an idiot, 2) In the era of record Summers year after year, states with over the top temps, if you don’t provide A/C you are worse than a slumlord, you are a fiend who enjoys torturing people and should be punished swiftly and severely. Find another way to make your millions, don’t do it on the backs of poor people just trying to live.

Don’t blame people who were intelligent enough to work hard enough to succeed.
They aren't saying landlords should have to pay AC bill. They are saying if you rent in Florida landlords should be required to have a working AC in their property. Our AC went out two days ago and even now with it no longer hitting the triple digits. The house we rent without AC is getting up to 86 degrees. With how humid Florida is mold will grow in a property with no AC and mold is a lease breaker and removal of mold is very expensive.
@@antoniotiberi1569 Florida currently does require any rental to have heat. Which makes zero sense. We use our heat maybe once a winter. Central and South Florida don't need heat. But AC is definitely a need.
Are you kidding me, we don't even provide AC for our children on busses here in Florida? Maybe that's something to get passed soon, honestly who would vote against protecting our children in this heat.
You way off this has nothing to do with a school bus ride of only 30 minutes if not an hour or less a day this is folks where they live . They not beating the heat . I seen wear this law changed they must provide ac
Make sure it's stated in the lease that air conditioning is included. You can give them seven days to fix the problem or constructively evict yourself. Thanks I'll be here all week.
This one more example of legislators and the public not using precise language to communicate. Why call it A/C requirement and not A/C equipment requirement? Next thing you know they take up a very vague bill that does not specify who's going to pay for the electricity required to run the A/C and nothing gets done.
More and more landlords are selling their rentals due to all these mandates taking from their profit margin so it will give more people chances to own their homes then the owners can provide ac for themselves
Nope, they’re selling their rentals bc foreign investors are buying at over the moon prices. People are more important than profits. You will be judged.
Landlords are selling their properties bc the artificial high prices are finally starting to break and come down. I hope you all lose your shirts. And the only mandates that have been passed have been made by Gov DuhSantis, at state level waving away any rights or recourses that tenants may have to stand up against people like you. Get your facts straight, slumlord.
Yeah okay keep telling yourself that because here in Miami it's still hot as sh** at night sometimes with humidity. You literally will start sweating after 5 minutes in the humidity at night.
I'm not a landlord, but I am a native Floridian. Grew up in South Florida without AC. It wasn't common to have AC back in the day and it's not common to have AC in many parts of the world today. So, why is it a MUST here? We're spoiled that's why. Americans, including myself, have a sense of entitlement and it's getting worse. Tenants can purchase a portable unit if they must have AC. They work and that's what I did when I wanted, not needed, AC. There are a lot of things we need, and there are lots of other, more important, things we can mandate landlords provide. AC isn't one of them. Next they'll mandate landlords provide generators.
Thats a nonsensical path you’ve described. First of all, the Gov of Florida has in one fell swoop taken away the only recourse standing between a person just trying to live in a decent place and a landlord who wants to cause harm to “poor” people. I have lived in my current apartment for a year, and I have spent untold amounts of money buying DampRid products to control the moisture in the unit. I have so far amassed several GALLONS of moisture from the air. If I don’t use this product, all of my possessions and the floors and walls of unit begin to show growth of mildew and mold. If I didn’t have air conditioner, this building would be swimming in moisture and the damage it brings. Also a point to consider, is that people who have health issues can be made dangerous from the heat/humidity. And the point you said about tenant buying their own a/c, the vast majority of the landlords here will not allow you to bring any appliance of your own into unit. They don’t want upgrades to their property, they want to be slumlords forcing their tenants to live in squalor. This is not the Dark Ages, if you like living without a/c so much, more power to you. You are part of the problem here.
It is clear you don’t know what a portable AC unit is because it does not require modifications to the property. Furthermore, an AC isn’t a solution to a high level of moisture/humidity in your home. So, it seems you have a bigger issue that your landlord should address.
No body should be without AC in the heat of Florida
I'm facing this now and it's way to humid and I have a 6 month old grand baby with asthma

@@shellymonteith2598 that I absolutely agree with. I put a new HVAC in one of my units. I hate window units.

If you have big windows with screens no A/C needed. When I was a kid I slpt with windows open all summer. Who is going to pay the electric bill?
