  • With his incredible scoring record for the England u21s, Sadio Berahino was at one time held by some in higher regard than Harry Kane.

    I dated a girl who knew him from school, just when he broke through at WBA, I told her what a great player he could be and she told me he has a terrible attitude and was always in trouble. She knew nothing about football but knew more than I did about him and she was right

      A common theme amongst boys without a strong father figure. It sounds like he’s gained some self awareness with age and I wish him all the best in life

      My old teacher used to teach him she said he had terrible tendencies but buckled down at 16 apparently to pursue football. Clearly the tendencies snuck back in

      I have a friend who's dad shaged his mum and left her crying of broken heart. He said that Saido was always a fun loving chap, a right proper lad if you will. Needless to say he's spun a story for himself fit for a Wrestlemania main event.

    Got to disagree with about him being the biggest what if in the last 10 years, Ravel Morrison imo is the biggest what if player that went wrong

    • @bigwhitewill4974
      @bigwhitewill4974 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +37

      Ravel never really played though, we just heard how much of a talent he was but never saw it on a pitch. Saido had 1 brilliant season and then just disappeared - might not be the biggest what if - but definitely is one of the biggest one hit wonders considering he didn’t score for 3 competitive seasons just 1 year after hitting 14 in the prem at 21 years old.

    If I remember correctly the issue was that Levy wanted to pay the fee over 5 years rather than a sizeble lumpsum that WBA wanted. Real shame for Saido he had already formed a understanding with Kane in the youth selections who knows how good their partnership could've been later with Poch

    • @flashbackfootball1367
      @flashbackfootball1367  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Well that whole transfer saga is very confusing as both sides have totally different accounts of what happened. I've read reports in which Spurs are adamant they offered £25mil upfront in cash. I get the feeling the WBA chairman Jeremy Peace was the stubborn party in that whole affair, but in truth, it's hard to work out what exactly went on.

    • @GGMatt
      @GGMatt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @flashbackfootball1367 John Percy and several other sources reported at the time that it was 5m up front, and the other 20m in 4 installments over 2 years, ie, 5 payments of 5 mil. This was the exact payment method Spurs then used for signing Sissoko from Newcastle not long afterwards, so it's likely true given how Levy did business.
      For a team fighting relegation, 5 mil up front and losing your top goalscorer is hardly a good deal at all given as he'd be impossible to replace for that sort of money.

    As a West Brom fan I found this video interesting. Saido was electric in his first 2 proper seasons for us. Truly a player of a different ilk. He was being compared favorably with Harry Kane and it wasn't undeserved. His attitude and the press undoubtably led to a negative feedback loop. We've always been a no nonsense proper football club and I fully believe that if he'd have been able to keep his head down he would be playing for a big club by now. That interview with Sky Sports was the beginning of the end for him unfortunately. I think with a better agent and a closer knit support network he would have never done it but that's just a what-if. We don't know what happened properly behind the scenes but I do think with a tighter leash from the people close in his life he'd have lived up to the potential.
    Still... Amazing video pal. You've earnt a sub

    He was a little hard done by, I feel. Why WBA didn't accept the 24 million from Tottenham, I'll never know. Your analysis is spot on; could have been very different. Lots, if not most, people in their 20s have a bad attitude, rebellious streak. Combine that with his impoverished beginnings, family trauma, and the pressures of professional football.
    His behaviour outside of football is less excusable. But I do wish him well.

    This video kind of makes out like he was a victim? But he was, by all accounts, a pretty bad person for most his younger years as a footballer. Only has himself to blame. Drink driving is drink driving, whether you've been robbed or not. Getting robbed doesn't give you the right to go out and potentially run a kid over just because you're stressed. Deary me. Utter arrogance from the lad. I'm glad he seems to have finally grown up though. Good luck to him in the future.

    • @flashbackfootball1367
      @flashbackfootball1367  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Not necessarily the victim, It's just my feeling that a lot of the reporting on him was rather nasty. His side of the story is a lot different from how it was reported and I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.

      Not that simple. Levy tried to palm Albion off with a ludicrous set of installments. A sense of entitlement that is endemic amongst the "big clubs" and their fans.

    • @GGMatt
      @GGMatt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Wouldn't have been 25m up. He wanted to pay it over 2 and a half years and WBA would have only received an initial 5 million. No way were they ever accepting that for their best player and top goalscorer in a relegation battle.
