I agree. I bought a bunch of omnibuses and never read them. I am just not that into superheroes. I like looking at artwork occasionally but I just dont enjoy reading them that much as an adult. I would of loved them as a boy but as a man I just cant get that into it when I can read so many other things instead. I read Sleeper and Fear Agent which were good. I love Savage Sword of Conan and will collect and read them. Right now I have the first three. I dont care as much for the Chronicles of Conan but would pick them up for a good price. I would get them if they were at or below 50 dollars a piece. I definitely prefer Savage Sword. I am also looking to pick up the Solomon Kane and Kull omnibuses.

I think the reason why grant Morrison’s Batman omnibus is so confusing is because it ties into final crisis and has other stories like resurrection of Ras Al Ghul which only has a few issues in the omnibus. Omnibuses need to focus on telling the complete story instead of just collecting issues by certain writers.

    • @fgdj2000
      @fgdj2000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Marvel did great with the Doctor Aphra (Star Wars) omnibus where they did also collect issues from Kieran Gillen's Darth Vader run which introduced character, as Well as Jason Aaron's Star Wars run, with which there were some crossovers.

    • @floorboss

Resurection of Ra's was just fill-in stuff, it had nothing to do w/ the larger _Morrison Batman_ run. Which is Great if you re-read it, in the right order.
      I.e. [Batman] _655-658, 667-669, 664-665, 672-681, 701,_ (FINAL CRISIS up through 5) _Bat 682 & 683, FINAL CRISIS 6 & 7 than Bat 702._
      > Note _Batman 666_ & the Brilliant _700,_ our probably best read together. But, both are self contained stories (700 is A Mystery left up to the reader to figure out the riddle). & _Super Bat 75_ also has A tie-in post the events of _666_ & _Batman (vol.2) 23.1_ has A spoiler relevant element w/ in it, that prologues _Bat 666._

As a Morrison fan, I liked but didn't love Batman, specifically the post-Final Crisis segment. It may just be that I spent too long between RIP/FC and Batman & Robin, but I wished less of it was about finding Bruce and more was about Dick & Damian. I was also a bit disappointed since I'd waited years for it, and had hyped it up a lot. I felt the same about Hickman's Avengers saga. Morrison did have a lot of great artists, though.

I love a lot of the Bronze Age stuff and have the Joker, House of Secrets 1 & 2, and House of Mystery Bronze Age omnibuses. I get that the GA and SA don’t really hold up well compared to modern comics, but they’re made for collectors who want a glimpse into those times. Just random issues here and there, though I got the John Byrne ones because I love his art and they were cheap after being liquidated by Marvel. I agree with you about the golden and silver age omnis too. That's some tough reading as is anything earlier than bronze age. And yeah, hard pass on Muppets omnis, which should be in cheap smaller sized books for kids. But, man, Elektra by Miller and Sienkiewicz? Superior Foes of Spider-Man? Batman by Morrison? Flash by Geoff Johns? Conan with John Buscema and Barry Windsor-Smth art? These are all some of the best books of their respective eras and companies.

The Savage sword books are classics and beautiful. The tangled web series is the only good Spider-man we have seen in over 25 years. Golden age, silver age, bronze age; the very history of comics books and you like none of them! My, I admit they're not for everyone but for those who want them they're genuine treasures. Mint Man! I NEVER thought I would ever do this on TH-cam or other similar sites, but your content is so good I think I'm going to become a paid subscriber. You always keep it it real. AND what you don't do that other TH-camrs do, is put negative, controversial headlines in your videos, just to get the traffic/likes . You've got the formula to go real high in this man.

Good idea for a video. I agree with most of these on the list but I think it's good to get the experience of reading through some of the material or having it in your collection as a completionist. I would rather have the Muppets in omnibus format than try to track down the original back issues for many of these. Could always sell after a quick read through if you ever get the time. Personally I don't plan on owning many of the ones that made the list.

This us My first Gem Mint comment.
Hey thanks for getting me into omnis ! ,
My Mark waid Cap omnibus I bought i thought id not stretched the spine properly and the pages started to come loose so i replaced it with a second . Same issue the spine sadly wasn’t glued properly!!! , i want this book so bad iv kept it . I saw many comments on Amazon saying they had the same issue !!! . It sucks when your laying out a lot of money and Marvel renown for quality books let this one through .
Thanks for the great videos . Keep um coming .Dunkster UK

Great video Gem but you can't regret the Marvel Horror Omnibus or the Stan Lee Steve Ditko v1 and v2 b/c something you taught me is how important having the history of it all on your shelves is. As for Golden Age, Superman v1, Batman v1-3, Wonder Woman v1, Justice League v1-3, Brave & the Bold v1-2, and World's Finest v1 are all you need. Conan the Barbarian v1 with Barry Windsor-Smith and Savage Sword v1 are all you need. Sienkewicz painted look takes time to get into - during the 1980s I was in college when these were coming out as single issues so you had a full month with each issue to spend time devouring it and getting into it! Give it a chance when you're not run a rush - the Elektra mini-series is one of the best and Sienkevicz painted art was also amazing on Frank Miller's Daredevil Graphic Novel. Totally agree, Morrison's Batman wasn't very good - except for the 16-issue Batman & Robin with the first six issues by Quitely open art! Don't purge your library! I think you've been negatively affected by the How Many Omnibus Have I Read Video you recently did with 29% - you even said in the middle of filming that this whole idea may backfire! By the way, I've said it before and I'll say it again - you have a very clear, persuasive and precise voice/phrasing - you could teach if you wished to and you'd be very effective.

I think the only omnibus I’ve bought that I’ve been disappointed with would be Brightest Day. I got it because of the oversized artwork, but I knew it didn’t have any of the tie ins. It still disappoints me that this omnibus didn’t have any tie ins. Book is still gorgeous.....just didn’t have anything other than the brightest day main issues.

The Marvel Universe by Byrne vol1 or 2 are definitely good. They contain more then one 10-15 issues of continuous stuff. Compilation books are not bad because they contain various stuff, but those that contain stuff that don't match together are shit like the Future's End or those first issue books you mentioned. I don't mind you to share what you didn't like because maybe this way they aren't going to be oop. 😎

The Geoff Johns Flash run is a slow start for new Flash fans. Once you get past the first couple of storylines, it really picks up. I can see how some of the older Marvel Conan series may not appeal to everyone. But you should really try to pick up the Conan by Busiek and Nord Omni coming later this year because it's one of the best Conan runs printed. This particular volume was originally published by Dark Horse and their approach to the book was going back to the original Robert E Howard Conan stories and redoing them in a linear fashion. With some issues acting as a bridge between two original Howard stories. The essence of Conan is back to an original form. And the artwork is original and unique; it looks more painted than drawn and colored. If that book doesn't make you come around to the character of Conan, nothing will. And speaking of bad omnis, I have to say I'm disappointed in DC's Starman omnis. Not the story itself, it's amazing, but the fact that they're collected into 6 thin omnis. 2 big volumes would be perfect and ideal. The thin ones are also out of print too. I just want a proper Omnibus for that great story. If you haven't read Starman yet, it's one of the best series you haven't read.

Superior Foes of spider-man is one of Spencer’s best runs. The Miles omnibus I have not opened in fear of it falling apart. Overall still like the Video thanks for sharing! 👍🏻

The Electra Omnibus is definitely not my favorite thing ever, but I didn't hate it as much as you.
Since omnibuses are pretty expensive even when in print, I only tend to buy the ones where I really think I'm going to love most of the content within the omnibus. X-Men Inferno Prologue (not an official omnibus but it's still as thick as one) might be the one exception, but it's still part of Chris Claremont's run, so I'm keeping it in there. My recommendation would be to just buy the stuff you think you're going to like, but I'm sure you've heard that advice before.
