Exactly! A lot of people seem to forget that why Huey is smart, he's still a kid, so he's going to make some connections to his interests like anime and gaming (even though he'll rarely admit it). To me, it's adorable and showcase well Huey is smart and childish suiting his age (he's just 10. Riley is 8).
zatoichi the blind swordsman is an older japanese IP that was first adapted to film in 1962. lol i was just asking my dad about it and he looked at me like a crazy person for asking if he ever watched those movies growing up. apparently all the nikkei kids in his little farming town loved zatoichi. boondocks doesn't just make anime references, aaron mcgruder likes a lot of japanese media.
Zatoichi was incredibly popular, considering Daiei made like 20 of them between 1962 and 1970.
I can’t stop gushing over the boondocks like just the nastolgia of staying up late at night until it came on to sneak and watch it as a kid is Amazing. I’ll never not love it
