      I'm curious to see it too, my best guess it's they just remove the coils from the coilovers, and then you slowly put the car down with jacks measuring every few centimeters.

    • @VHjykfUuYu
      @VHjykfUuYu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jairo.cabello No. You don't do that. It removes load from suspension components, which gives you lower deflection values than you'll get in reality. You can use dummy dampers. Basically a tube with holes drilled PRECISELY every couple cm. Then you lower the car onto them. You should do that with all 4 corners to keep the car level and preferably on scales to show you if there is anything funny going on with wheel loads. Also it is beneficial to roll the car both ways a bit to remove lateral preload from the tires. If your dummy damper is stiff enough, then you can do additional camber and toe stiffness testing. Suspension bends more than you'd think. The rim itself will give you 0.5~1 deg/g of deflection during cornering. It's especially important for cars with large scrub radius and caster trail, since longitudinal and lateral forces result in large amounts of torque around the king pin axis.

    • @michiel5160
      @michiel5160 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have seen this done.
      Lift the car, then use a jack under the wheel to change its height. This way, you can measure dynamic changes.

It is the one thing I don't yet have in my garage and when looking back at all the work (struggle) while doing something to my cars, it's the one thing that makes the job so much easier. Unfortunately, my garage has some limits when comes to space, but I need to squeeze in a lift somehow.

  • @jamie101010
    @jamie101010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Given the huge level of engineering that goes in to multi link suspension - see the recent AMG Kinematics video - it seems unlikely that Toyota (BMW?) made a mistake in designing the suspension curves.
    Its probably more likely lowering the car in the first place create the issue - that would drop both rear wheels in to a bump steer mode - ... so both rear wheels bumped steered out in opposite directions. That would cause instability.
    That 'improved' rear subframe looks a whole lot less substantial than the one it replaces. I would expect it would flex a great deal more under extreme cornering load. I wouldn't have confidence in it just because they say they put a sub frame on a 700hp GTR.

    • @Tristan.R.J.M
      @Tristan.R.J.M 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On a 3000hp drag gtr and also rally Evo. But you start with acknowledging the engineering, to wich you add: ofc, lowered lol, looks not special. I don’t get your point. Genuinely asking

    • @jamie101010
      @jamie101010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Tristan.R.J.M if i understand your question, the observation is that the outgoing subframe appears to be stiffer. The width and depth of the metal pressings are huge in comparison to the small diameter tubes in the new one. Particularly the amount of material around the chassis attachments. The cross sections of the outgoing one looks like will resist twisting forces much more.
      So here is the evidence that this is any better? I'd expect Verkline to come armed with some test data showing stiffness calculation, and also some data on how they changes the suspension curves. The alignment didn't go to plan.
      All they brought was a claim that they made a subframe for a 700hp GTR. Who knows how that performed? Nothing to acknowledge other than a internet claim. More the acknowledge in the manufacturer parts.

    On stock e90 hight the suspesnion performs good, I gues if the car gets lowered to much than the geometry starts to get messy and the upper front arms start to rotate the knuckle = making bumstear eaven worst.
    With the subrame was the resr rollcenter changed? cos when lowered a lot it tend to go under ground.
    Have you changed the anti squat at the rear?
    On the front I see there wasn't any room to change the anti dive.

    Do these parts come with TUV certification or similar ? ( important if your country has technical inspection, you don't want this unmounted every 2 years :) ) I looked at some prices and for the amount of engineering that goes into these parts, the subframes for example, have a very correct pricing. Also amazing to see how much of these technologies scale down to for example RC racing. It's the exact same parts, only way bigger and stronger :) Nice video.

  • @Zyworski

    I cannot see how having a variable-length tie rod is going to solve the problem of variable geometry in the control arm as it carries the rear wheel carrier. I was expecting to see a cam, or lever system, or maybe a multi-link system. The Verkline system looks like it would definitely save on weight but does it also add anything too structural rigidity?

    • @mgcharoudin

      It does absolutely. Maybe even too much. We will get to that.

    • @AmirPomen
      @AmirPomen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main trick i bet is in the subframe...
      He mentioned the bolt point for fixing to the car chassis remains...
      But not the one that conencted to all multilink parts...
      It could be different relative bolt point height...like an advanced rollcenter adjuster as opposed to longer balljoint commonly used in front suspension
      as well as width adjustment too as we can see the slotted hole on the subframe...

    • @Zyworski
      @Zyworski 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AmirPomen I have been thinking very hard about this video and currently have it freeze-framed at 15:28 and think that you might be on to something. Upon closer inspection in am seeing that the bolt that attaches the control arm to the subframe is off-center as if it were a cam like mechanism.
      There is also the potential for some magic to be happening with the strut rod (the one with Verkline upside down). To be honest I have never noticed a stabilizer strut like on a car before. I had always figured that frictional forces would be pushing the rear control arm back and changing its geometry and that I why I favored a trailing link system.

How severe is the bumpsteer that you have to replace the whole rear subframe for better pick-up point and how good is the MOD? nothing. Making a arguable statement and just did something looks cool isn't proved the point about bumpsteering. No data, no measurement, no scientific test.

    The guy filming only cares about powder coat color, which obviously the guy being interviewed could care less about.
    Then the guy being interviewed can't even identify the arms they have developed. Is this a toe arm? Lower control arm? Oh this is a endlink? Wait you are suppose to be the expert?
    20 mins and I'm not entirely sure anything was explained.
    They made a tubular subframe, details of which are scarce. And they made a bunch of adjustable arms with rod ends. Then some press in monoball cartridges.
    The most important part, aka how they fixed bumpsteer is completely left out of the video. Obviously you measured toe change across the entire stroke of the damper but was it a subframe design that allowed you to control the angle of toe such that it never swept across zero? Or was it a combination of the adjustable arms that did this?

    • @AmirPomen
      @AmirPomen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they change the link point for suspension on the subframe to suits lowered car height (rollcenter adjuster on the frame itself as opposed to rely on extended balljoint like many front kit)
      Then with so many adjustment point on that rear multilink setup... I guess the found a compromised setup overall maybe?

    You have completely damned this car into oblivion.
    I am too tall for them, but if I fit, it would now be off the list.

      @Right Round maybe. The Second Gen MR2 has terrible bump steer in the first incarnation, and 'everyone' seemed to complain about it switching lanes uncontrollably (highways in the US can have ruts in the asphalt - less common in the last 10 years). I would say I'm somewhat sensitive to a car that doesn't feel under control when driven at its limit, but I tend to do that less now.
      The point is that this car is supposed to be a budget sports car, but it is actually engineered to be a around town car, like a Prius?

      @Right Round and the sporty cars I've owned were (in DE) a 1980-something BMW 320 (with the 6) and 1994 Celica GT (only 130 hp), and later (in US) 2001 Subaru GM6 and 2013 BMW 135i M-Sport Cabrio (with a ton of cowl shake).

    Any ideas on how/why Toyota could get build a car like this with bump steer?
    To me it seems like a basic part of the design that would be correct.
    I am sure all the suspension, along with everything else, is computer modelled at the design stage so they can build exactly what they want.

      There is a lot wrong with the car tbh that could've been solved easily.

      @@vollcare4076 no one has ever called it bump steer.
      However, when under load, the rear squats and it feels like the rear tracking goes out (not a slipping wheel). When going over undulations it does the same too.
      With mine, I fitted Bilstein coil overs, this stiffens it up and the problem almost completely disappears.

    Anyone can tell me if this Bump Steer would occur and/or become an issue on a stock Supra on the Nordschleife ? I am a beginner level driver, fastest BTG Laps are around 8:30 with e93 M3, corvette c6 and Ftype S.
