Greetings from Germany. Nice Video :-)I like Miniware products alot, but sadly they dont offer any spare parts if internals break. they also dont offer assistance.
You might be able to attach the grounding pin to the stand so that the iron goes into standby mode.
They should have made the soldering iron adapter piggyback between the base and hotplate so you could use both simultaneously.
