    I made something similar last year. I used two pieces of scrap 8” channel iron welded flange to flange with a piece of 1/2” plate welded on for a flat surface to mount the vise. I have since welded a piece of 2” square tubing to the back and have used a piece of receiver hitch welded to a plate that I mounted to a beam in the shop. This unit pops into the receiver hitch when I want to use the drill and stores out of the way when I’m done.

      I've already planned out a new design for a lighter version... my issue is, I have too many projects / videos in the works right now lol. I just finished filming a floating shelf bracket and have a bunch more in progress. I've seen the receiver hitch used a couple places, I think @GarageFab built a whole mobile rack for them. Whatever it takes!

    Nice job! One thing - when drilling with annular cutters - use firm downward pressure, in a continuous stroke. You should not 'peck' as that allows chips to bind in the side grooves on the cutter causing undo friction and scoring as well as enlarging the hole somewhat. Meanwhile - you have outstanding editing skills and your videos are very contagious! Could be due to you having such a great first name! Looking forward to the 16mm holes video - I'm guessing that's for the top of a fixture welding bench. Thanks for the humor! mike (yea , we have the same name!).

      Dear Mike,
      Thanks for the kind words! I leaned towards peck drilling here because I was being somewhat cautious with my new creation lol. I needed to build my own confidence that the two bolts would be sufficient to hold the vise, and tap magic burns up super quick lol. I'm going to start using a thicker fluid for one-off holes, and then just use the coolant system whenever possible.
      Thanks for the kudos on editing... Every time I lie to myself and say, ok, I'm just going to do minimal editing this time... and so far that has yet to happen!
      The 16mm tabletop has yet to be started, but I've still got a bunch of videos to edit before that happens lol. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

    Very good idea your first and second video about the holder for the magnetic drill. Greetings from Cologne / Germany.

    Ideally it needs to sit in a durable pan to catch the cutting fluid with a pump and filter to recycle the liquid.

    • @MichaelRoachWV
      @MichaelRoachWV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would be the dream, but I don't think I'll go that far lol. I got sidetracked by other projects / life after this video, so I've got the lip, but no drain plug yet... not ideal lol

    Nice drill stand. Wonder if the mag drill could withstand making the vice move back and forth on the X and Y axis. Making a mini mill of sorts...

      Ssssshhhh, jk, I’ve got an x-y vise, but that vise has too much deflection. I’m going to order a low profile table and try and Frankenstein mount it TOP of that. Fingers crossed ;)

      @@MichaelRoachWV The bearings in the head of the DP are really only designed for compressive, not axial loads. So go gentle or you'll kill an otherwise great tool! Bought mine late last year, and it's awesome.

      @MichaelRoachWV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrFiero I'm somewhat interested in finding out, may consider tearing it down to see how it's put together. The typical issue with a jacobs chuck / taper with sideload would be avoided.
      But, it does have the capacity for a a 1.6" annular cutter, so that's what got me thinking, maybe it could handle a 3/8" endmill?
      I've been swamped in other endeavors at the moment though, so all of that is on the backburner for the time being!

      @@MichaelRoachWV - as long as you went REALLY gently doing x/y moves... maybe?! It's more the quill bearings I'm concerned about since they were designed for z axis loading. Seeing as mine is a month or 2 old, I'm not taking it apart to find out. ;)

    It seems the opening under the drill would be a lil wider and able to slide all the way under out the back side for longer items

      Well, it took being disabled from 2016-2022 to get correctly diagnosed lol. Went to every Doctor, Hospital, University Hospital and Mayo Clinic Rocheste… twice lol. In 2022, I got diagnosed by a local Rheumatologist… 4 miles from my house. I’ve got plenty more shitty healthcare jokes, and jokes about shitty health, shitty care, etc 🤷🏻‍♂️
