I had never understood what VGE said after that introduction until a few videos ago, where for some reason slowed down the spiel, and I was finally able to understand: "before I get too far involved, though..." 😅😅😅 Love the content, thank you so much as always @VideoGameEsoterica
I hope it copies the Anbernic arc handhelds. Six buttons and the Sega style dpad would be incredible. The 3D print preview looks great though. Chunky grip is a good move
I don't currently own any mister, but I want to get three of these. One for use on a crt, playing older console games, one for custom arcade cabinet, playing fighting/arcade cores, and of course the handheld. So excited for this to come out!
I really hope that the dpad gets worked out to feel great and offer accurate direction presses without triggering false diagonals. It's one of the most important aspects to get right in a handheld. I personally wouldn't mind dedicated 4 and 6 button designs. I'm not sure anymore which portable device I should be more excited about haha.
Microswitch up/down/left/right and capacitor diagonals that can be toggled on/off would fix this and offer the perfect two-mode D-Pad. Give it a double size A microswitch button and 1.5x size microswitch B button and 4 other capacitive action buttons, magnetically attachable hall-effect analogue so it can be removed when using the D-Pad.
@@VideoGameEsotericathe purpose is to have the device on the go, play, have it saves states, and when I get home I plug in the scart crt and continue from where I left off, same for when visiting friends with modern led tvs. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I am definitely interested in getting the portable, hopefully with a 6 button layout. But with this new info about the flagship, I am VERY intrigued about it 🤔🤔🤔
Makes me wonder if Taki has sourced the new iPad Tandem-OLED 120Hz screen panels, could potentially make for an incredible small BVM quality portable MiSTer system, with HDR-BFI, scanline generation etc, would be even more amazing if he has been or has someone working on rolling-scan emulation for it, would be an incredible CRT alternative and the perfect little MiSTer setup for many people.
"He lived and die by the D-Pad" could go on many of our tombstones. Taki gets us. We get Taki. (If it ends up looking anything like the Anbernic RG Arc it will never leave my side!)
what i want is a mister compatible board that you put in the steam deck and it connects directly to the lcd and the controllers and you can switch from SteamOS to the mister any time you want, and back.
Called the PVM! I'm seriously so stoked. Definitely getting that (just too cool) and the handheld (have to) but also the triple stack for my Checkmate monitor I kick-started. I'll have 4 MiSTers at that point but hey, just more to share! And my kids love it too so they'll all be used and loved.
@@emrahdincer Preview Monitor. Specifically in reference to high quality ones Sony made for professional use cases like tv broadcast stations, hospitals etc.

Got 2 MiSTeRs already. One full stack and one that may some day go into a candy cab (if I ever get round to doing it up). But the handheld will definitely get bought ... providing I can get in before it sells out.
Well, I hope it all works out, but I'll reserve judgement until we see real news on this. Glad to see they're going through what seems to be proper prototyping.
IIRC the screen on the Treamcast did not support 50hz whatsoever so for European Dreamcast fans those super-optimised PAL games which had been modified to run really well at 50hz but didn't no longer supported 60i or 60p were more of a drag then than are now. Hope this 4:3 OLED can sync down as playing those 50hz only C64 games will be a miserable experience otherwise!
I put my Pocket on eBay at a sort of ridiculous price of $750 Australian not really expecting anyone to pay that but with an I want to sell it before the handheld MiSTers come out mindset. Someone just bought it for $750 Australian and I am now without a handheld until the MiSTers come out. Will probably sell my MiSTer as well if the handhelds are able to do HDMI out.
Am I the only one here thinking of that meme where the guy looks at the other girl (Anbernic Arc S/D) walking by and his girlfriend (Nintendo Switch Lite) gets jealous? One can do it all but the other one looks more fun... Is it just me?
I'm not terribly excited about the handheld since we have the analog pocket that also addresses the bandwidth issue of the original DE-10 nano. I'm more interested in what improvements will come along the way as the years go by and the FPGA's become cheaper, more powerful, and more efficient.
Crazy to me to do this but copy the DE10. It's not an ideal design for gaming especially with the ram configuration compared to purpose built designs like the Pocket. If you are doing this work you should go the extra mile and at least fix the ram configure and power management issues.
@@VideoGameEsoterica I mean it didn't take long for devs to adapt the MiSTer cores to Pocket, and if they copied that memory configuration they'd essentially get that work for free while making more LE's available for anyone wanting to adapt the larger cores.

That's the signal you know you're about to have a good time, and good retro news!
I’m so glad MiSTer for the masses is becoming a thing
Yes I think the user base is going to grow a lot this fall and winter
4:3 OLED will be pretty sick.
Should be an exciting concept

That is just the de facto best design IMO

"Chunky grip is a good move" ~ high five!
The handheld would be really nice since the Analogue Pocket doesn't support the PS1, N64, and Saturn cores.
@@METR0lD yeah, that's a big reason I really want 6 button layout too. Analog does the others fairly well already. This will really make it a must
and you know those are the best
The best until we get our 3DO core! 🤘
3DO might be too good to FPGA. People can’t handle it
Also, Analogue sucks
That Treamcast.... what a blast from the past! Memories flooding back from when I first saw that in magazines LMAO
Such a weird and unexpected piece of hardware
The handheld absolutely needs 6 face buttons imo. FPGA Saturn in a handheld is the main selling point for me
Totally, and I want to play N64 on it too!
6 face buttons would be ace for n64 emulation, too.
I hope it’s an option
Yes N64 could use it too
Which one you say?
Yes. Just yes.
All of the above

Good plan. I keep one on my PVM, one in my capture setup and one on my living room tv. Plus the on camera bare board models
Has to be the handheld, hopefully a Super Famicom design will be available. All these cores on the go is a must.
MiSTer on the go will be a great thing
This thing keeps sounding better and better!
Now we just have to see it

A good d pad makes all the diff
My dream machine is an fpga handheld which can also output to scart, vga and hdmi. That’s it.
No details yet on what the dock will output but you can always use direct video mode via HDMI to get those signals

Someone should invent MINI SCART
I love using an old iPad for an emulation screen, if it’s that resolution only OLED and smaller, that will be utterly amazing.
The iPad screens work well from what I’ve heard and seen
Really appreciate these videos. I don't have Twitter, the only way I know about this project is from your videos. The real MVP
