You could see the happiness in the young man's face when he looked in the mirror for the first time after the operation. He was very pleased and even turned his head to look at his side profile because he couldn't believe how good it looked. He was still in discomfort and pain as expected but his eyes clearly lit up when he saw his new look! This is going to give him all the confidence he needs.

This is miraculous! My lower jaw is similar to his. All of my life I've wanted it fixed. Now at 72 I believe it's too late to fix it. Yes, I do have trouble chewing and there are some things I cannot eat. So glad this young man got this done. It's a mystery that there were no visible incisions. Doctor is a genius! 😊

💁🏻♀️You can always eat the things you think you can't eat...you just adapt your style of eating that item🤷🏻♀️ If you want an apple, then you cut it up into bite sized pieces If you want to eat a burger, it's not unusual to tear/break off a piece and eat it or use a knife to cut into more manageable pieces you can eat ☝🏻If you want to eat corn on the cob, don't be hesitant to cut the corn from the cob...I prefer to cut mine from the cob especially when making Mexican street corn (you're NOT missing anything because the corn is rather chewy at times and the skins of the corn kernels get caught between your teeth and hang around until they are removed by either a toothpick and/or dental floss) 😁

A family member of mine underwent a similar surgery although their defect was not this extreme. The pain was off the charts but once the pain was over and the mouth was unwired the results were amazing! Good luck to you young man! I know you have to be reaping the rewards!
I pray his bones are strong and heal well. My jaw collapsed and I had to have a 2nd surgery many years later to correct it. So now my jaw is held together by metal plates. I pray he has excellent recovery.

I think a different bandaid is required, the poor guy was in so much pain when they were being removed. The actual reconstruction is awesome - I'd love to see how he was 6 months or so post surgery.
My daughter had this operation at 18. It is called Neanderthal syndrome. They cut through her jaws in 8 places and slid the bottom one back and the top one forward and put in 8 chrome cobalt plates. She still has 6 of them in 30 years later.
I thought that with having this particular surgery the mouth was wired shut. Hell for all I know things may have changed. My nephew had his surgery in 2015 so who knows!
