Pete/ love when you do a theme/ series like this. Great stuff. Enjoyed it. Thank you 👍💯
I have an idea for a show: "Greatest albums by Producer?" For example, greatest albums produced by Martin Birch. Maybe a show on "Greatest Albums With Unknown Producers."
Iron Maiden’s first three albums were by one and done lineups…and are their top 3 as well… IMO.
The classic debut Clash album, UK version. The only lineup with Terry Chimes (aka Tory Crimes) on drums.
Really cool topic Peter 😎. Enjoyed it 👍
A fun topic and enjoyable video. These types of episodes are likely a challenge to create but they make great viewing.
The easy selection, the first RUSH line-up with John Rutsey, sure better things were going to come but the first album rocks. A couple 'Winter' related records that come to mind The Edgar Winter Group, They Only Come Out At Night with Ronnie Montrose and the Johnny Winter And line up with Rick Derringer (What a killer guitar band that was)
Toto's Isolation is the first one that springs to mind for me. Marvellous album.
I've had this idea ready to pitch forever, but I didn't want to get shot down. 😂
Don't forget that Montrose I and "Paper Money" were also "one and done line-ups" because Alan Fitzgerald replaced Bill Church on bass for the PM album.
Rainbow rising and Sin after Sin are my favorite albums from this two great bands,a shame that they couldn't keep that lineup for some more stuff.also like That Death lineup that you mentioned, what a great band
Brilliant show and loved hearing about some of these incredible albums from these one and done lineups

Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)
Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning
Tygers of Pan Tang - Wild Cat
Moraz joining Yes after leaving Refugee and their ‘74 album which is essentially The Nice without Emerson. And Moraz left Mainhorse and their one album from ‘71 to join Refugee.
(me throughout the video) Whitesnake self-titled is gonna be here.
(shows Slide It In) Oh.
Another Perfect Day by Motorhead
Cool album from the 80s. Featured ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson
Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Tangerine Dream - Electronic Meditation
Scorpions - Fly to the Rainbow
Mark IV of Deep Purple springs to mind first - what an incredible combination of talent with Coverdale, Hughes, Bolin, Paice, and Lord! I wish they had gone further together. Then again, Bolin, in general, is one of rock music's greatest and saddest 'what if? if only....' stories.
I'd also cite Pink Floyd circa The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, when Syd Barrett was at full auteur strength.
They were two-and-done, but I love the Carl and the Passions/Holland lineup of the Beach Boys, with Blondie Chaplin on co-lead vocals and guitar.
Great topic
Great picks! This one doesn't ever get any love, but I have always enjoyed the Wishbone Ash album,
Number the Brave, with John Wetton on vocals and bass. His only LP with them.
So glad to see Relayer in there. I loved that album. Moraz was a perfect fit.
When dream and day unite!
Wings - Back to the Egg Yes - Drama
Obscura by Gorguts is my choice. Luc Lemay and Steeve Hurdle sharing guitar and vocal duties. Steve Cloutier on bass guitar and Patrick Robert on drums. Have you guys heard that album before? It's pretty technical and avant-garde sounding.
Masterful!!!!!
not counting band that only put out 2 or 3 albums:
1. Amboy Dukes - Call of the Wild
2. Angel Witch’s debut
3. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
4. Death - Human
5. DevilDriver’s debut
6. Dvne - Asheran
7. Epica - The Divine Conspiracy
8. Evergrey - Torn
9. Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
10. Katatonia - Dead End Kings
11. Loudness - 1992 album
12. Masterplan - Aeronautics
13. Nevermore's debut
14. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
15. Overkill - Horrorscope
16. Prong - Carved into Stone
17. Rainbow - Down to Earth
18. MSG - 1981 album
19. Vicious Rumors - Word of Mouth
20. Yes - Drama
you know there’s quite a few bands that had no or close to no repeat lineups.
Toto - Isolation
Asia - Astra
REO Speedwagon - debut
REO Speedwagon - The Earth, A Small Man, His Dog, and a Chicken (only album with Jesse Harms)
Yes - Magnification
Black Sabbath- Born Again
Deep Purple- Slaves and Masters
Rainbow- Down to Earth
Yes- Drama
His vocals on Blackthrone are some of his hardest and most intense.
UK first album with Holdsworth, Buford, Wetton and Jobson
Lynyrd Skynrd Street Survivors Stevie was next level
King Crimson choose from Court, Larks, Starless, Red lineups
Wild Horses first album Brian Robertson, Jimmy Bain, Neil Carter
I would include Jimi Hendrix's "First Rays of the New Rising Sun" with himself, Billy Cox & Mitch Mitchell.
Both in the studio and live, they were great. Mitch even said that lineup was Hendrix's best band. I agree.
Cox just gelled so beautifully with Jimi & Mitch, more so than Noel Redding did. In my opinion, of course.
Rainbow’s Down to Earth (Bonnet joins/Bonnet leaves)
MSG’s Assault Attack (Bonnet joins/Bonnet leaves)
Alcatrazz’s No Parole (Bonnet stays/Burr leaves/later Malmsteen after the live album)
Alcatrazz’s Disturbing (Bonnet stays/Vai leaves)
Alcatrazz’s Dangerous (Johnson joins/band ends)
Impellitteri’s Stand in Line (Bonnet joins/Bonnet leaves)
Blackthorne’s one off
Anthem’s Heavy Metal Anthem (Bonnet joins/Bonnet leaves)
Impellitteri’s System X (Bonnet rejoins/different rhythm section/Bonnet leaves)
Alcatrazz’s Born Innocent (Bonnet is back/Bonnet leaves)
Pete, how about an episode of ranking the lineups of bands. So many bands to choose from with different lineups, you could do a few episodes.
Steve Vai Sex and Religion. I heard that Vai wanted to get a band together, call it VAI, pretty much adding vocals to Steve's already crazy guitars.
Awesome will get thunder and lightning
there's a 2CD set. well worth it.
Masters of reality
Sunrise on the suffer bus
Slaughter Back To Reality with Jeff Blando on guitar. He brought a harder edge to the guitar sound than they had before.
My number 1 line up was Whitesnake - Slip of the Tongue
You said that you saw Black Sabbath with Ian Gillan live, as did I at Reading Rock Festival 1983. How did you react to Ian Gillan singing "Paranoid" and Tony Iommi playing "Smoke On The Water"? I loved the gig immensely, but it still feels very strange today hearing both of those versions of those songs.
Rush self titled
return to forever hynm to the 7th galaxy
My 20…

UK: S/T
Toto: Isolation
Thin Lizzy: Black Rose
Whitesnake: Slide it in
Black Sabbath: Born Again
Obituary: Cause of Death
Yes: Relayer
Rainbow: Rising
Scorpions: Love Drive
Pat Metheny: Bright Size Life

Blue Murder: S/T
Corrosion of Conformity: Animosity
Rising Force: Odyssey

Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast
Racer X: Second Heat
Derek and the Dominoes
I was thinking Yes would be the double header with Relayer and Drama.
King Crimson Lizard lineup. I love that album. They never played live. Bassist Haskell was unhappy just because he loved soul music instead and went away after sessions finished. Drummer McCulloch too. U. K. another notable example. Two guys wanted weirder stuff, two more radio friendly. And it's all.
Burning Tree with Marc Ford
I love Emerson, Lake, and Powell. Had a great future, but...
You mentioned a lot of my favourite albums, but Nugent and Lizzy are the standouts IMO. Free for all is by far Nugent's best. It has a certain album rock adjacent finesse and production and a specific feel that are absent on his other albums and a set of tracks, most of which are excellent. The Nuge may be flawed as a human, but at least he got this album right. To date still in my top 1% of all time albums.
I would definitely put in a pitch for the Down to Earth lineup of Rainbow and the 1987/self-titled lineup of Whitesnake. Not that I disagree with the two lineups Pete chose for these two bands, but these are my favorites from each.
I had forgotten about the "A" lineup of Tull with Jobson, because when that album came out I really disliked it. (Ironically, it's the one between my two favorite Tull albums, Stormwatch and The Broadsword and the Beast.) As an album, "A" has grown on me over time, but I never entirely lost the bitter taste from the first time I heard it.
After watching your channel a while, I suddenly just thought about some of my favourite prog-metal bands, and checked your older material. Have you ever heard Ivanhoe. They are still active today with some ups and downs, but their first three albums is just a whole other take on prog metal then anything I have ever heard. (off course everyone are inspired by something, and you could draw conclusions about queensryche and what not) But, I think they never got know for some reason, but all three albums are amazing from start to finish, and I still listen to them very often even today after 20+ years. You might be familiar with the singer who sings in Brainstorm now, which are pretty big in EU at least. Also great, but less prog, however one can hear that Andy B Frank definitely has brought with him his way of creating vocal melodies.
Squeeze - East Side Story (only album of theirs to feature Paul Carrack on keys and vocals)
number of the beast as well as killers by iron maiden are in my book too.
