He basically is saying that he doesn’t need to go to church to strengthen his religion or reassure his belief in god. He was so close to this realization, that would’ve made him push away from the manipulation of all the adults within his town. But later on, Clay LITERALLY beat that realization out of him. (When is body reverted back to a church building.)
It's because he was worried he was gonna go to hell because his dad grounded him from church but he realized that just like a church, God is with him and he does not have to go to church to free himself from sin or something like that
I think there's a deeper meaning to what he's saying. Back in medieval era The Church had a huge say on what went on in the government and people's lives. Then Martin Luther noticed a disconnect between what was written in the Bible and what the priests were teaching(The Bible was written in latin and the peasants couldn't read). He nailed all the inconsistencies of The Vatican to a church door and created a schism called The Protestant Reformation. One of the things the protestants talked about was that The Church was a group of believers and not a physical place. They came to the conclusion that they could read the Bible themselves and come to their own conclusions. Despite Orel's parents being protestants themselves they go to church as a formality and to pretend to be morally upright. Despite Clay keeping Orel away from church as a punishment he almost inadvertently taught his kid to break off from The Church and draw his own conclusions rather than being preached to. (I'm a bit of history buff so this scene was pretty fascinating even though I don't think the showrunners had this in mind)
That is exactly what I thought of. The PEOPLE is what The Church is comprised of, not the building or the man-made laws of those exerting their power and influence over others.
When I saw this episode and when he heard his pet dog from that one episode barking from the distance, that made me real sad because I remember they had to put him down because nobody liked him
@@pollytubluver I know. I'm just saying it was very sad to know they had to put down that dog because they thought he was evil and made oral think he was evil, so basically they just put down an innocent dog who just wanted to be loved
Actually all the kids loved Bartholomew, it's just that the adults were being horrible people as per usual and decided to put the dog down because they were bastards and had their egos bruises.
It's because he was worried he was gonna go to hell because his dad grounded him from church but he realized that just like a church, God is with him and he does not have to go to church to free himself from sin or something like that
When Orel is having those flashes of hallucinations the one where he is standing and talking in front of a podium he says “I don’t think I need a BUILDING to tell me how to do THAT” which to me confirms that he really was enlightened and knew he didn’t need church to be close to god until Clay beat him again

And all he had to do was commit sudoku 3 times
HOLY SHI- THIS CHANGES THE WHOLE THING NOW-
no, no, you absolutely nailed it and there's no way it isnt intention
Nah man you completely nailed it and this was most likely the intention of the scene 👍
When I saw this episode and when he heard his pet dog from that one episode barking from the distance, that made me real sad because I remember they had to put him down because nobody liked him
Nobody except the kids
it was actually the reverse everyone loved Bartholomew and how nice he was and he made all of the adults jealous so they killed him

never seen a show able to make anything this eerie holy shit

this episode was creepy as hell
frr, I was so uncomfortable. This was the episode that made my bestfriend not wanna watch it anymore. ( I still watched the rest ofc )
And luckily despite all of this he gets a happy ending with his new family.
Christian here. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit therefore no building is necessary for prayer

I am a church? really? wasted effort tbh lol
It means something in the context of Christian religion.
Not really. It was Orel realizing he didn't need to go to church to feel closer to God.
Its in context and actually gives meaning to the episode. Pls watch them full season and you will understand
@@errolpletcher9186 that's exactly context related to the Christian belief actually
