    Jake your house looks really nice and it's great you have a kitty to keep you company. Believe me I know the struggle of not wanting to go to the grocery store, or anywhere else for that matter. I'm curious about something. I have found that when I'm doing something for someone else, whether that be my nephews who I used to babysit, or my cats, it's easier for me to put myself in situations that cause me anxiety. I think it's because I'm not thinking about myself as much as usual and I'm more focused on the other person (or animal) that is relying on me being able to take care of them. So maybe make a goal of going to the store to get some cat food. And think of it as my cat needs me to do this so I HAVE to do it. Just walk in, grab it and go to the self-checkout. And then don't feel bad that you didn't interact with anyone. Just get thru that one time of doing it. And try to make yourself leave your house periodically, even just to drive around or go run at the park. For me, the longer I stay in my apt, the harder it gets to leave. Btw, I love your taste in music. I'm a metal head too but I mostly listen to the stuff I grew up with which is old school thrash and death metal. So yeah I totally get not wanting to tell people the type of music I like bcuz so many people are very ignorant of what heavy metal music really is. And that's just one extra thing to worry about I don't need 😂
    Omg sorry this is so long!!

    • @JakeAvPD
      @JakeAvPD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks David. I haven't consciously noticed that sort of thing shifting my focus that much, though it definitely is a great way to make myself do it! I'll put off doing something for myself forever, but if my cat needs food I'll make it happen (even if it doesn't feel any easier). And yeah, I could tell after a couple days of staying in and unpacking that I was going to completely lose all social ability if I didn't go do something. Having running as "the thing" I do regularly is nice so far. I even made eye contact with a couple people today :D
      That's awesome, I like some old school thrash too. Megadeth is the main band that made me decide bass was cooler than guitar (Primus deserves some credit too). And no apologies needed, I really enjoy reading and replying to comments :)

    Listen, try not to judge yourself so hardly… this is your life on your own terms, on your own path! Normal is overrated. I have social anxiety and that was harder for other people. My friend who I believe had AvPD was terrified to go out to a restaurant aftet the pandemic. When we went out, he ended up loving it. When he pushed himself, he enjoyed it. Some might be bothered, but most people want to make it easy for those who feel anxious.
    You are unique and so many people are thankful to know someone else feels like them.

    You remind me of my 19 year old son. He looks like you and is as calm as well, like you. I think he is DA (my subjective opinion, based on his behavior and traits) and have not had any contact with for four months. He has not had much contact with his mother and siblings, too.
    I feel happy you’re having dinner with your mom. Rest assured, there is nothing for a parent that hurts as much as loosing contact with a child.

    Yep take it slow, one day at a time! Ketamine therapy really helps manage my AvPD and severe social anxiety disorder. Have you ever looked into it?

    • @JakeAvPD
      @JakeAvPD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only know a bit about it, but hearing that it has helped you with social anxiety has renewed my interest 🙂Thank you!

    • @David-hr8mq
      @David-hr8mq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is it difficult to find a doctor for ketamine therapy? I've heard about this and would like to try it. I remember back in the 90s hearing about ketamine being a popular drug in nightclubs. So I'm very curious as to how it can help people with anxiety.

    • @starlightpancake
      @starlightpancake ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@David-hr8mq Those 90s kids may have had the right idea taking ketamine, but not necessarily in the best context 😅
      I do at-home Ketamine therapy with NueLife. So all of the medical consultations are done through video chat over the phone and they send the medication to me. There are cheaper options for at-home therapy like Joyous or Taconic. So I’ve been able to navigate this therapy on my own for the last year at my own pace, in the comfort of my own home.
      It works very well beyond just creating new neural pathways and shifting perspective, but also works on a nervous system level. It’s like getting a haircut for my nerves. Keeps me out of freeze mode so I’m not stuck ruminating and I can be more present and excited to move forward with life because it finally feels worth living now. I’m still a bit awkward and limited in social situations, but the crippling anxiety over it all isn’t there. My nervous system is more regulated so there’s no more overheating, heart ponding, armpits burning, internally hating myself in that moment when literally any social interaction occurs- that’s gone. Makes it easier to go run errands, but I still don’t really have the desire to meet new people and form new relationships yet, because after having the anxiety stripped away, I’m re-realizing that I am genuinely introverted and enjoy my own company and being at home most of the time. Just got to enrich that environment and celebrate the baby steps! It’s all about the small victories we make along the way ❤

    • @David-hr8mq
      @David-hr8mq ปีที่แล้ว

      @reveriedecoded Oh wow, thank you for the detailed reply! I was somewhat obsessed with club kids back in the 90s and watched everything I could find about them. So I saw lots of them on Special K! They seemed to enjoy it, but I couldn't help but wonder how being in a K-hole could help my anxiety in real-life situations. Obviously I'm sure the dosage is much smaller and more manageable. So I'm going to look into these companies you mentioned. At my age I've pretty much given up hope of my AvPD ever getting better but I'm definitely willing to try. I sometimes wonder if my brain would even allow me to act "normal" if something actually worked for me. I've had the same way of thinking my entire life so I doubt sometimes that I even could change. But it seems to have really helped you so I have to try it.
      I also enjoy being alone and have often wondered if I would feel differently if I didn't have AvPD. And like you, I'm not so sure that I would.
      Anyway, thanks for the info!

    Congrats with a caution. The last time I lived by myself (62), I lasted about 4 months and I was spiraling down the entire time. Then I moved back into my house ( don't ask why I was living in an apt and not my house). Now I am splitting expenses with another. Having someone else in the house (even though there is no relationship) does seem to help. I am also using the grocery store to give me more exposure to people. I am working on a 2nd video like you suggested. Time will tell if I can get it done. Luck. Pardon the typing. I am having cataract surgery next month and I can barely read what I am typing.

    I relate to often feeling like you are doing the wrong thing. You are doing so well though, Jake, and it is definitely worth it and okay to focus on the little things that give you a sense of independence. I suspect that feeling like you can do stuff on your own can give at least a bit of confidence and that would be useful for future social interactions.
