    I live in the west valley (Phoenix area) and my wife and I have our passports but I have been reluctant to go down there. It seems a bit complicated and I will explain what I mean.
    Some people tell me how cheap it is down there as far as your stay but I am finding that to be deceiving. After doing research on how much it will cost I am not sure if it's worth heading down there and honestly, I find it more expensive than San Diego.
    As an example of what I mean let's say a hotel is $130.00 per night so $260.00 per weekend. That's not a bad price but then you have booking fees, service fees, tax and administration fees, Mexican auto insurance, Mexican medical insurance and the horror stories of people being stopped by the police and having to pay them along with the dangers of the cartel I just can't pull the trigger (no pun intended)
    Some people make the argument that Phoenix is just as dangerous however at least in my case, I conceal carry all of the time here in Arizona which means I am legal to carry a firearm and I can't in Mexico. I would feel totally vulnerable down there. The other thing is if God forbid I get a flat here in Arizona or my car breaks I feel much safer here. If this happens in Mexico, who knows what will happen.
    What are your thoughts on what I said? BTW great video and I still want to go make no mistake but I have not been convinced it is worth it.
    Thanks
    Dave

      Hi Dave, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I read this earlier, but wanted to wait until I had time to really address all of your points. First of all I agree it seems like nothing is cheap anymore! That being said, I think that it is relatively inexpensive when you compare it to accommodations that would be on the ocean in a place like Southern California. And while the room rates may not necessarily reflect, a huge savings, the cost of everything you do while you’re there does add up to give some good savings. Cost of food, souvenirs, entertainment, etc..
      I know where you’re coming from where the concealed carry is concerned. If that is important for you to be able to do when you are on vacation, I would definitely say don’t go to Rocky Point! Best to travel with in the states that honor our Arizona concealed carry license. You probably already have resources for that, but if not, I will post a link to a book you can get that shows all 50 states, and if they honor, concealed carry licenses.

      Overall though, I just want to let you know that I’ve never felt unsafe in Rocky point. I think where safety is concerned it’s just always a good idea to be respectful and aware. Also, I find that sticking to mainly tourist-friendly areas is a good policy as well. I’d say that’s true of Rocky point or any town one visits but is unfamiliar with 😊. Please keep us updated. If you do decide to go, we would love to hear your experiences.

      @@1bird2stoned You can call your car insurance agent and they should be able to set you up with the Mexico insurance. Or you can actually stop roadside on the way down - there are a lot of places in Ajo, Why Not, and Lukesville where you can pull in and get the insurance. I recommend going with your insurance agent though so you're paying a better price.

    Thanks for sharing a fun video. Did you have to get any kind of international insurance for your car, and how much did it cost? Any issues/concerns with driving an AZ plated vehicle into and back from Mexico on this particular route?

    • @EmptyNesterLife
      @EmptyNesterLife  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you do need Mexico insurance for your car…our insurance agent does that for us, but you can also buy it on the way down. Ajo and Lukeville have lots of spots where you can stop. No issues driving an AZ car. Rocky Point is within a certain mileage from the border so no need to do anything special or get a vehicle permit.

    Rocky Point consists of shake downs by the "police", trashy beaches, abusive HOA fees, and obnoxious sales people on the beach. It is too bad because Mexico has 1000 of miles of Hawaii grade beaches or better, but the corruption has decimated the country. Getting that way here in the good old U.S. of A. That said, the people are the warmest hardest working people you will ever meet. Their language is beautiful. Too bad.
