  • The Jesus known by most people today is the Jesus of Nicaea, not the Jesus of history. The Jesus of Nicaea is embodied in the Nicene Creed, which was drawn up by the bishops of the church at an Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 325 CE to resolve a dispute that threatened the unity of the church. The Creed represents what the church believed it knew about Jesus until its claims were rendered incredible by the scientific revolution. Subsequently, historical research has found ways to identify reliable evidence about Jesus as a figure of history. This lecture explores that evidence.
