  • Progressive ideas and The Strange Death of Europe | Douglas Murray & Amit Segal
    Douglas Murray, the British author and journalist and author of the bestselling book The Strange Death of Europe, lectures on how the universalist progressive worldview harms Europe’s ability to deal with deep moral ideas and ultimately believe in its right to exist and the justice of its cause, and on the differences between Europe and Israel regarding nationalism and patriotism, borders and religion.

    Members of any nation have responsibility for their nation as the whole, their land and its prosperity. What attitude is that: first don't care, make a mess at home then migrate to other country and bring up the same carelessness and mess. Some reasons for migration should be recognized and justified. In general, migration is the results of people inability to organize their native land and this inability will infect their new place.
    The old truth is: if you want to help the people, help them to improve their life in their land. The unrooting them does not do any good to anyone.

    He raises some important questions, while most Europeans have liberal views and open minds regarding culture and race… Not all people coming into Europe share those values, there are those that are actually closed minded, cultural intolerant and racist themselves (certainly not all but some are and if you just open the door and let everyone in you will inevitably let in racists you shouldn’t be welcoming into your country).
    An example was a pole taken off a nameless immigrant group that was polled asking about homosexuality, overwhelming they disapproved and want it to be against the law (against the law and most likely punished). I’ve also read posts from a site that is overwhelmingly of immigrants from Afríca going into Italy, most were people that were incredibly racists against Italians (not all, most notably Ethiopians were incredibly welcoming and open minded), should Italy be bringing in large numbers of racists that hate Italians? Of course not, no country should bring in large numbers of intolerant hate filled racists that see their hosts as inferior and beneath them.
    (Just for clarification, I don’t know the percentages of how many immigrants going into Europe are welcoming and how many are racists themselves. All I’m saying is every country should know who they are letting in)

    • @almostafa4725
      @almostafa4725 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's funny, because Europe is the most racist, intolerant, supremacist, violent, pedophilic, genocidal, imperialist, expansionist continent of all time. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.

    • @GhostSal
      @GhostSal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@almostafa4725 That’s a lot of accusations without stating why you feel that way. I never said I was against immigrants at all, in fact we all were at some point in history. We should however, know who we are letting in. An example would be, would you leave your door open at night to let anyone in (and hope they have good intentions)? I hope the answer to that is no, you’d want to know who is coming in.
      You made a lot of accusations, yet most European countries before the influx of letting everyone in had some of the lowest violent crime rates in the world. As for racist and supremacist, you would have an argument speaking historically (for some countries) but today? You can’t seriously say countries that open the door to help so many are racist today (the push back you see from some in Europe today is in large part due to violent crimes increasing).. That’s absurd if you believe Europeans are racist or are you just ignoring the hate and intolerance from some that are migrating to Europe?
      So much of what you said is filled with hate and pointing fingers while ignoring atrocities that are going on around the world. There are literally over 40 mil people that are slaves today, many of which are in Africa and Asia. The Pedo comment, again there are men in Asia that believe they will stay young if they have sex with virgins and they look for young girls (it’s actually a serious problem in some countries). In other countries young girls are forced to get married to middle aged or older men (this happens mostly in the Middle East & Africa; on occasion in also Asia). Yes, there are men from all over the world that travel to foreign countries for sex (and have looked for females that are too young), but suggesting that’s strictly a European or western issue; that isn’t true. I’m not saying, all Europeans are great, but saying that all are (fill in the blank from your long list) is also absurd. Just as it is true there are issues in all those places I mentioned…There are also truly great people in every one of the places too (like Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, great people can be found everywhere on this planet).

It’s the biggest cultural shift in any capital cities history. It should be rewarded and applauded. Nothing else, I have no problem with the change of demographic.
    Also, you can’t argue that people have changed their minds because they haven’t. That’s what makes the UK the most multi cultural place in the world. What international ''progressivists'' only care is about non-white minorities. They literally aren't able to think out of this low-resolution parameters. They don't care about historical facts and nuances.
      What Douglas Murray was saying is that Sweden, like other scandinavian countries don't owe any ounce of guilt to the rest of the world since it didn't engage in the only type of colonialism leftists care about.
      When you say ''colonialism'' they don't think of Muslim Empires having european, african or hindu slaves, they think about europeans as the only culpable actor in history and everyone else as the automatic victim.
      I've literally heard people trying to say that the Sami are the ''true indigenous'' north-europeans, as if all the other scandinavians are automatically foreign and invaders of their own countries just because of the color of their skin.
      This is an ideology that could be thought out by a race-obsessed lefist kid of 6 years of age.

    The immediate post War transformation of Europe included massive population transfers that brought shared-language peoples together in an ethnic reshuffling. So borders were informally bolstered, and not by statesmen, but on the local level, by neighbor on neighbor violence. German minorities throughout central Europe were expelled and made their way to Germany. Others too. It's another explanation for border anxiety than reluctance to join another fight over Alsace-Lorraine or the Saar.
    Susan Stebbing, in her philosophy book, "Thinking to Some Purpose," has some surprising things to say about mid-century English political discourse. It portrayed English politics as more sentimental and not nearly as statesman-like as a first impression (Pitt, Disraeli, Gladstone, Churchill) would impart.
    As for religion in Europe, it's too subtle a topic for me as an American to put forward any ideas. Here in the US, I'd say that fragmented sectarianism is a business model. Unlike past eras, religious affiliation is no longer a comfort for the downtrodden, but a luxury good. Consumer marketing has appropriated the methods once used by religion and has crowded it out.
    The one instance I've seen of young people in Europe turning to religion in recent years is in the Pussy Riot Manifesto. It was a very well thought out argument that unabashedly drew upon Gospel sources to explain and inspire. Of course it was from the part of Europe where churches were recently supressed.
    We don't make constructive disagreement part of education in USA or Europe. We leave it to attorneys and politicians. Training on the high school debate team won't serve. There are ways to disagree without being disagreeable.
    There's a lot we in the West would have to get right to benefit from Murray's insights.
