I will be listening next year. So happy that you are going to continue. I have learned so much. I have always wanted to live somewhere that I could attend an adult institute class. You are an answer to that prayer.

I am interested in reading how the book of Ruth came to be, especially with the beautiful first person narrative actually poetry it seems.

Hannah begins her prayer with my heart exalts in the Lord, my strength is exalted in the Lord. Hannah recognized that her strength came from the Lord and not herself. I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me Phil 4:13. Even when her prayers were not answered she remained faithful to the Lord and eventually she was rewarded with a son. The message here is to never give up and to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You too will receive your reward from God for those who believe in the true God.

My take from this week is ,”life doesn’t always unfold as planned but i can see His hand through it all”
Ruth and Naomi are goals, I’m glad they mentioned Emma and Lucy M Smith, I always thought that theirs was an amazing relationship too.

When studying Moses, 2 old movies were mentioned, that was interesting to look into. There was also a movies that we watched as a ward at a ward movies night held every week, several movies were rotated with a new one once in a while.
One of the regulars was "The Story of Ruth " - I actually bought it and have it on my tablet. It was filmed in 1960. Peggy Wood (from "Sound of Music) Tom Tryon and Stuart Whitman were some of the cast - just incase anyone is interested ( in 1960, I was about 15 years old - and families came to these shows - it was fun. )😊

Yabam is the word used in Hebrew which is the law described by the Sadducees in the New testament to Jesus Christ. I want to illustrate the fact that in this law the brother-in-law would not have an open ceremony with his sister-in-law. The word marriage is used because the word sex was not a word for intimacy until 1800s. The other reason that there would be no ceremony because the ceremony would validate the man and woman as being bound. And if they're bound together, then The offspring would be the offspring of the brother-in-law, and that inheritance would be not the brother who died but the brother-in-law who was ceremonally bound to his sister-in-law. I hope that makes sense

I love the marvelous teaching of John Bytheway; he knows how to teach with points of Light and _spiritual experience._
But I have misgivings otherwise here, darn it. I have an old set of CDs’s produced by the CES for teachers of youth from about ten years ago. One segment featured sister Gaye Strathearn. In it, she was shown teaching youth using her method of scripture study. She had each student draw four columns on a sheet of paper. Chapters in the OT were studied by filling out the columns, which were something like, “Historical Context,” “Characters Mentioned,” and so on. I think the worst thing we can do is to make the reading of the scriptures needlessly complex. Secondly, I believe gospel teaching should not even resemble classroom teaching. I don’t care much about stimulating gospel discussions; what I care about is spiritual experience. I say this having some background in _secular_ study of religion; I have my BA in Religious Studies. My thought is this: we are losing too many people in the Faith; stimulating discussions of gospel almanac miss the mark. We don’t have spiritual experience in gospel teaching. I winced again when I heard sister Strathearn’s academic resume; Gnostic writings are like a garden overrun with weeds. Claremont’s “Mormon Studies” department is liberalism and secularism (synonyms, really)-which are immaterial for Latter-day Saint gospel teaching and in fact are often toxic to it. I’m not advocating ignorance of context or a broad understanding of what’s going on in our writ-those can be mentioned, but must not be our goal. There are _two_ guidebooks for gospel teaching. Both could be written on metal plates: _Teaching as the Savior Taught,_ and _Teaching No Greater Call._
I don’t mean to be Oblation Brother of Blessed Negation, but we need better teaching in the Church-a whole different paradigm, (John Bytheway is a master of it). But Gospel TikTok will not save anyone.
