Thanks Jennifer for your comments. I agree that by being a mentor you benefit personally in many ways. Thanks for being a positive influence within the industry
When I decided to study architectural engineering, it never really crossed my mind that this was a male-dominated field. At uni, my course was pretty evenly split between male and female students, so the gender gap wasn’t something I noticed much. It wasn’t until I started my first job as a mechanical engineer that I really became aware of how uneven the ratio is in the workplace. Looking back, I’m glad I wasn’t put off during my uni years about finding my place in the industry. The gender imbalance is an important topic and it is amazing that more and more professionals talk about moving past labeling jobs as “male” or “female” roles. It’s really just about people-and anyone should feel welcome to join and succeed in any field. It’s also inspiring to hear how mentors can help women feel more confident and supported, encouraging them to pursue careers in these fields. It’s also incredibly grounding to talk about life and the challenges it throws at us. These conversations remind us of the importance of supporting one another, showing humility, and showing that we care about those around us (regardless of gender) even at the workplace. Thanks Jennifer.
