  • Most times the engine oil filter is not too hard to remove, but occasionally you may encounter a very difficult one. When that happens, if you can't locate your best special oil filter wrench or you don't have another drivable car to run to the store, this video should help you. It would be nice if you can make use of the tools you already have in your garage. Depending on what items you have and the kind of car you have, I will show you 4 different ways to remove a stuck engine oil filter. Again it should not cost you anything. Note that your garage may have somewhat different items, in which case my video will inspire you to find your own solutions. If your filter is the canister type (not one time use), see this video on how to change it: • 6 Steps To Change Cart...
If you want to use the old fashioned screw driver to remove filter, here is my video to show you how to do it: • The Cheapest Oil Chang...
    Index
    0:00 overview
0:24 no space limit: car jack; C-clamp
0:53 timing belt & other belts
1:26 rope + wrench (voted the best method)
    2:53 wires
    3:20 screw
There are so many different cheap tools on the market. If one tool does not work, don't panic, try something else. Note that tools for oil changing are not that expensive. However, if you can't locate them or if you don't DIY often, simple tools shown in this video could come in handy. If you do change your own engine oil often, then investing in better tools may not be a bad idea.
Basically there are two elements: 1. non-slip between filter and your tool. 2. leveraged long arm can deliver force to the filter. This is very similar to jar opening: • 11 Ways To Open Any Ha...
High definition video may help you see all of this better. This video is shot in the 4K UHD setting (if you have 4K TV, you may select this TH-cam Setting/Quality).

Thank you so much for this inspiration. I don't have an oil filter wrench and I'm not sure one would have fit in the tight space on my tractor. I spent over an hour trying various means, only getting more frustrated with each failed attempt. I used your idea of putting a long screw through the filter, grabbing it with a wrench, then using a second wrench for torque. Worked way better than expected! My frustrated heart thanks you!

I love shit like this. I always find myself lacking the proper tools for things and I am not very strong either so I always have to find a way around the problem. But when I came to this oil filter, I was stumped. My little hands could barely fit that deep in there but I had no strength in my wrists to turn it with such little wiggle room. This was genius. You're a genius. The belt worked like a freakin charm. Keep it up!!

You are most welcome, I just finished the job and because I had no rope I ended up using my tow rope, its a flat orange belt, similar to a cars safety belt.
I wound it around a 17 spanner starting on the open end and ending up with the tow rope loop near the ring on the spanner.
I then used a vice grip to clamp the belt over the bottom flat side of the spanner. It worked really well and the spanner stuck out quite a long way below the engine allowing me to be able to use the leverage of the vise grip nicely. Thanks so much for your help the job is done and I can go to work tomorrow morning.

There are some very good tips in this video.
I had a chain wrench type remover that cut the filter in half...I would always recommenced a belt type if you have the space.
You have make a belt one for free :)
