I have a 1980 cutlass and i put a 69 olds 455 h/o in it and it bolted right in and it makes over 520 foot pounds of torque, more than a chevy!!! And parts for it are ez to find! Its only 3800 lbs w the big block. Make sense to keep it oldsmobile.

I noticed that someone is making new copies of the original 70 W/Z factory performance dual exhaust manifolds. I actually got lucky and found some originals. Headers are such a pain! I have not installed them yet, but I think they will fit my 81 Cutlass 455 wagon. I originally just used the factory crossover pipes from my 69 455. My heater box prevented me from installing some really nice Speedmaster aluminum valve covers. I was thinking about modifying it with fiberglass to make room and all, but not yet. I had to drill holes in heater box to get pushrods out.
What brand are the headers that you installed (I know this is a old video I hope you see this comment ) I have a 1980 442 with a 455 and I’m only finding one company ARH that makes headers , are you running normal 455 long tubes and just making them fit in this video ?
You are going to have a lot of problems later on down the road if you don't get these things figured out now. And you don't want that exhaust running up against the firewall at all, you will start having electrical problems and possibly a fire because those headers will get red hot and transfer the heat to everything that is on your firewall. I have a set of headers on my 1966 Oldsmobile, and I have seen how hot they get
I have a 1970 cutlass SX I run a beefy stock stall speed converter from Coan racing . The 455 builds alot of torque down low so it really does not need a stall speed to make power. If you unleash a high stall speed it is just going to roast tires. My car has a 3:42 gears and when I bought it many moons ago It came with a small radius converter and was stalling somewhere 3800. Also I have a full 3 inch dual exhaust with NO crossover or x pipes . I have a 750 double pumper with mechanical secondaries and when you nail it its all power . Many people think back pressure is gospel, The 455 runs air-boats , cars and marine applications. It likes wide open exhaust. You have a ground pounder :)
i had the 850 double pump mechanical secondary dual feed line type c heads edelbrock intake no bog at all lite up the tires at 30mph 1969 motor 290 duration cam
Headers are always a a pain in the ass always and I've never been a fan especially on a stock motor the gains you see are so not worth the work to use them then they leak later on as well even w the best gaskets etc you'll. See pain in the Ass
I'm 21 and never thought I'd be into gbody or cutlasses it was handed down to me when my uncle passed away and I inherited a 84 2 Dr brougham and Boi did it need work so I ended up getting another 4dr that was clean in and out and I happen find a 455 and immediately threw that in their. Learned alot about the car I used a turbo 350 trans from Pontiac trans am cause I didn't want to change drive shaft and also uses the same cross member and bolts right up to the 455 and I was able to use the original exhaust and now I have a fast boat
I bet and fast for cheap has always been my moto lol listen curve the HEI distributor and put lighter weights and springs bring that advance in quicky those lower compression stock motors love advance in s hurry and make sure the advance mechanism is all in. Good working order w light springs etc don't worry about initial timing as much as total timimg and when you get total timimg that's what is important for performance set it up for that and If she starts good and sounds happy is responsive and we'll you can tell when a motor sounds happy Starts happy and is happy do all that to that 455 and use a good hot coil a really good module in the distributor a good cap rotor and good plugs and hold on I hope your running the. Original quadrajet carb cuz you can't beat them for reliability and performance with any carburetor out there also gas mileage is way better with a q jet when you stay out of it lol. Love the q jet moan too my buddies heard me coming for miles and miles away with that moan lmao

Line up, drop and slide on heavy rear angle, headers will slide right by frame. Done this 6/7 times with no lift. And I'm not a certified mechanic. All the cars are still running yrs. later.
Life would have been so much easier if you had removed that hood, first!🤔😆 She’s gonna be a beast when you get her back together-the way a 442 should be👍

Noticed a C head casting , 68 or 69 455 ? . Came out nice , is it an 85 442? Didn't see a center brake light . Will probably bury the 85 speedo in second or third gear ! The 84 hurst looks nice too. Is that a 307 still ,or a 350 ?

scrap the headers and find some 455 dual manifolds will run just as good i have a 455 and got it in 82 and had it in that car plus a few more i gave up on headers years ago and some tru dual manifolds are a lot less hassle and will seal alot better
@@BigGeorge3397 not sure on that have not used those but the headers come with a few problems extreme heat on starters ground clearance gaskets i always used metal stock gaskets and doubled them butt the heat would wear them out fast since i went to stock manifold duals i have never looked back and if i did go back i would use the shorty style not cheap and i think their gasket surface is thicker ..

Or a built up 700r4 but yeah your right a overdrive trans is always best a lower first and a fourth gear is always awsome but a 400 w a shift kit will take way more abuse lol

You have already ruined those headers! And you have wasted the 200.00 bucks that you paid for them. Those will never work

I used headers from flow tech for my 1988 Cutlass 403 build. fit fine. Small block but you might want to check them out for a 455

So does the 200 shift fine with out the quadrajet emmisions carb? Thats how those shift from the electronics of the t.p.s.

I used the Hooker Super Competition 455 Olds in a G-body swap headers. They fit like a wet dream. But they ain't $200 bucks.
I have a 79 Cutlass tucked away I swapped a bunch of Olds engines into. Ran 6.80s in the 8th with a healthy 69 455. Drove it everyday for 2 yrs.

It doesn't need any sensors. Factory fuel pump is on the front passenger side of the block.
Buy a new sending unit with a new filter sock for the fuel tank. That sending unit tells the gas gauge how much fuel is in the tank

400 b.o.p but that built up 200 will handle it. You want a 4 speed with lock up action.
