I'm a rocker, from 60's, punk, and metal. I never listen to country music, except some Johnny Cash, and a handful of other songs. But I will listen to any and everything John Prine. I love this man. Miss him dearly.
Hello Fiona my heart ache for you my husband passed away August 2021 but not before hearing John on u tube that I had found during pandemic I like to think he’s listening to Johns beautiful music in heaven 🙏🏻🙏🏻💜💜
I first heard John Prine in the early 70s, and man, I was in love!!! I was 19 and thru all life’s plans & surprises, I remained in love with John and his music. He’ll will remain in my heart and hopefully be playing his guitar at The Pearly Gates! Thank you for sharing him again. God bless you all!
@@jessewestbrook9816 yes it’s wonderful. You’re blessed too, having John Prine’s music in your youth. It’s amazing how few people know about this man’s incredible music.
Our youngest son found him for us, he actually got to go to one of his concerts! So happy he did, wish I had, his way with words is amazing, along with the musicians…….beautiful!
That is so good to pull out the band's performance from the "old" days. I just purchased this past Christmas the two cd release of John's concerts over two night back in1976 at the "Other End" in NYC. Loved that. I also had the fortune to see John and his last band in Toronto and Buffalo that was off the charts. I loved John introducing the band members and when he gets to his drummer really did not know why he did not have a drummer the last thirty years. So John Prine. It was great to see Fiona walk John off the stage after John's little jig on the stage in closing the show. Love you all at Oh Boy records to keep the lights on, so to speak. Ttyl, Al
One of the last National Treasures. Hard to believe he's already been gone two years. One of the greatest songwriters who ever walked the earth.....and we were all lucky to be here at the same time as John Prine!
I didn't discover John Prine till after his death and I feel robbed for not getting to watch him play live. Definitely one of my top artists that I listen to nowadays. He just seems like a genuine nice guy that is no different than the comman man. Thanks for sharing this video
I am on the opposite end of the scale, my father was a fan since the early 80s and that was the earliest memories I have of music and in turn it has became my mission to make sure every human on earth knows about this man in the great music he made. I’m glad that you hopped aboard. his words are timeless
@@isaacj.elliott2137 Yeah I've been telling my family and friends about him. I honestly think anybody can listen to his music and relate to him in one way or another. You got songs like "hello in there" that he wrote at such a young age that makes you realize the wisdom and foresight he had as young man. Most people at that age aint thinking about the older people and what some of them go through in the later years in life.
Same here, I only ever knew him as "the guy that wrote Angel from Montgomery", which I always loved...but it's been surpassed in my estimation by so, so many of his other songs. Where to start, when you have "Far From Me," "Christmas in Prison," "Donald & Lydia," "Mexican Home," etc., etc., etc. What an absolute gem of a songwriter, singer, and human being. If there was one hand I wish I could shake, and tell it's owner "Thank you for your gifts to us all", it's John Prine's. Lovely, lovely man. Rest in peace, you marvel, you.
I’m 47 years old, my uncle got me hooked on John when I was a kid with Dear Abby! Every since I’ve been loving John! Finally was able to him in Atlanta a few years ago! What a legend!!!
Been listening to John Prine for over fifty years now and he always brings a smile to my face when I hear one of his songs. Thank you to all responsible in sharing this. Love to all his family…
The world lost an irreplaceable gift. I was honored to see him in New Orleans on the Riverboat President. I think the year was 1983. I was very young at the time but I will just say that his music will always be as meaningful and wonderful to me as it was 40 years ago. And all the years in between. God bless you all still listening in 2022. We miss you, John.

I am 33 years old and recently started learning how to play the guitar. A coworker suggested I learn some John Prine songs. The first song I heard was, "When I Get to Heaven" I instantly fell in love. I've been listening and learning allot of his songs the past 8 months. Save me a seat at the Tree of Forgiveness John.
YES WE DO! Condolences to Feona and the boys. He is missed more than he will ever know.. one hell of a loss. Still buying his CD's. 35 is a lot of treasured music and dedication!
I was blessed to see him live… front row seats…Fort Collins Co, 1984. Thanks Michelle, for surprising me with those tickets on a Thursday night after work. I grew up with his music. I just love his music, it’s a big part of my life experience
Hellooo from Chicago!! Caught John Prine once live on Navy Pier in the 90’s. Fantastic performance, great vibe, Lake Michigan summer air cooling us all down. John is my pick me up go to when feeling melancholy. Right now from my couch in Rogers Park imagining sitting on the hill in the city I grew up in, Edmonton, sipping on a Big Rock and listening to this live.
Are you kidding me!--this video IS perfect!--I would pay $$$ to just sit in my easy chair with my headphones on listening to this poet all afternoon--Thank You--You captured the moment beautifully.
One in a million! What a great gift....to see and hear him live!!!! Outstanding recording...felt like I was there! THANK YOU!! And Dave Jakes and Jason Wilbur are super talented and contribute brilliantly to John's brilliant music!! Grateful for my one and only actual live time seeing him with Nancy Griffith (RIP) at the South Shore Music Theater in Massachusetts. We are so blessed to have had their beautiful spirits and songs!
Check out the Hello in There foundation it was set up to help various causes that are near and dear to John and his family . Feeding and housing the homeless for one . The Prine family match all the donations and it goes to various charitable organizations check it out they have a website, In October there will be a weeks worth of concerts in Nashville called You Got Gold all the profits from those will also go to the foundation
I first saw John just as his first album came out. I was living in Milwaukee at the time . Me and a couple friends went to see him at UW Milwaukee campus. It was a small room with a movable stage set-up and there were about 200 people attending. I was in college at MATC in photography and had my black and white film and still cherish the photo I then printed in my darkroom. I’ve seen my concerts over the years from The Rolling Stones (twice), Led Zeppelin. Elvis, Bob Dylan , etc. I’ve seen John five or six times: Summerfest a couple times, Ravinia, Pioneer Center in Reno. John is still the most closest to my heart. The first time at UW Milwaukee was groundbreaking, jaw-dropping, you get the picture.
Finding a John Prine gig on TH-cam is gold. Sadly I'll never ever get the opportunity to see him play live in Glasgow...or indeed, anywhere else. Thanks so much for posting this. Wonderful.
Aww, this is so awesome, thanks for sharing this with us! This was only about 4 years after I even knew who JP was. Please Don't Bury was one of the first two JP songs I ever heard so that was cool to hear here. (Dear Abby was the other). PS- Oh Boy people... next up- I'd pay good money for seeing the show at Levon's barn 😉🤞 💙☂
I have lines and verses, fragments of John's songs, floating in my head all the time when I'm not listening to him. Thinking about stringing the hodge-podge together to make a new song. Might be a hit. John was a keen observer of life, wordsmith extraordinaire, and made some of the prettiest music all by itself. I don't own any of his albums but listen all the time on TH-cam and Pandora. Just set up the first song and see where it goes from there. I never tire of his music.
