These multi-port engines were super solid. Had an 88 Pontiac 6000 with this powertrain and it was a rocket. 80s GM cars were something

They were solid, but they were not fast.... These were 17 second quartermile cars on a good day at sealevel. But peak torque was nice an early so they could always break tires loose for fun~

@@Djevan41598 yup. My dad’s 88 Pontiac last until 2006 and would’ve survived longer if the head gasket didn’t leak. I’ve seen a few survivors in my area

Beautiful video! I have wanted a Chevy Beretta GT from 1988 or 1989 for YEARS! Seeing this gave me such a tease of the beauty of the car! I just haven't been able to find any from those two years for sale. I'm such a sucker for that LONG vent on the dash. It's beautiful!

My first non-pos car was a 1989 chevy beretta GT. Similar to that one there. Same engine, same transmission, same wheels. The main differences were the color, mine was cherry red. My interior was grey. They were great cars. Very durable and fast. The poor man`s race car. Great in all weather conditions. Even snow. I had the basic instruments, not the digital ones. No power windows. Lots of great memories with that car. Even hooked up a 4 by 8 trailer I built and hauled my motorcycle to the race track with it, that I raced. Once hauled two motorcycles with it for a 4 hour trip to the mountains. Surprisingly the rear bumper stayed attached the whole time. I installed the hitch to the bumper with two bolts, that`s it. Got into biking in my twenties . Would drop down the back seat and stick the bike in the trunk. Good trunk space for boogie board and luggage.

So glad you got to this. I had a base level 2.8 Barretta back in the nineties. I thought they were stylish for economy level and that the thin backed seats were cool. Should have kept it longer, mechanically sound but cosmetically mine needed alot. A GT trim is much better since the autos were 4 speeds vs the base 3. Still a sharp car. Looking forward to see what you do with the dash.

Wow, what a transformation! I remember the beretta growing up in the 90’s. My brother had a beretta GTU and was totaled by a deer jumping into the freeway. I was asleep in the back seat and woke up veering into the middle of the highway. I was covered in deer hair because the deer impacted the front windshield. I can remember the highway being closed down and the local fire department washing the roadway off with hoses.

Great result, I don’t think your friend has to get this resprayed now! Dry paint like that will look dull after a while but waxing can keep it looking presentable. It’s a cheap car so it’s great as is. We used to have these Berettas (and Corsicas) in Finland also in the 80’s and 90’s and I didn’t think much of them but now I think it’s pretty cool. Especially those steel wheels, never seen better looking steelies!

I had a 88 Beretta GT when I got off of Active Duty in the Army the first time in 95 that I bought from my High School Girlfriends Aunt. Loved that car, I'd like to find another one to fix up and customize. One note though, When you repainted the Wheels you said he wanted to keep it as close to factory as he could, but those aren't the correct wheels for a GT, The Beretta GT from 87-89 had the cast Aluminium wheels that also came on the base 82-88 Pontiac Firebird, those are wheels off a 87-89 Base Beretta and you should have painted the wheels white as that's what they were painted, Good job refinishing them though they look really good Silver. The Beretta had 6 different models during it's 10 year run, The Base Beretta, the Beretta GT (87-93) the Beretta GTU (88 and 89 only) The Beretta Indy edition (1990 only and only came in 2 colors, Yellow Gold and Turquoise Mist) , The GTZ (90-93) and the Beretta Z26 (94-96). Mine was Bright Blue Metallic which I didn't really care for, It seemed like an afterthought and not thought over and they just kinda mail that one in.

I’d also recommend on one of those is replace the half plastic heater core. That was the ultimate demise of the 3.1 V6 In my sister’s ‘90 and one of the first things I replaced on its sister car a ‘95 Achieva I bought with a very neglected cooling system back in ‘07. It was a Quad4 manual car which while quick for its day could be killed real easy by overheating. Pull the shotgun seat and the console out and it’s not too bad a job
