If you never crossed this bridge notice the middle lanes are metal grates that you can see through to the water below. the green railing on the side doesn't look tall enough specially on a real slippery or windy day with a trailer. Also sometimes if your lucky and your white knuckling on one of them days. The lanes seem to get tighter till you get over the arch (half way point).😂 But it is a beautiful view and well worth going acrossing.
How much further could you take up 2 lanes? Use to cross this thing 4 times a day up there. Use to hog two lanes myself, after awhile you get use to it.

Your Headline has a common mistake, but as a Michigander, I'm a little surprised you made it.... You were in "Upper Michigan" when you started out from Mackinaw City, as Upper Michigan is the northern half of the Mitten, north of Hwy 10... When you cross the bridge, you are going to the Upper Peninsula, otherwise known as the U.P,. or YooperLand..... Upper Michigan and the U.P. are two different places, one South of the Bridge, the other North of the Bridge...
Thomas - what you say is a common mistake for folks that live in the mitten. I'm a Yooper and lived downstate - most trolls think that Michigan ends at the bridge, so of course anything north of Houghton Lake is 'northern Michigan'. LOL
My comment isn't a mistake. It's the viewpoint of most Yoopers. as "Upper Michigan", and Yooperland are two different parts of the state... In actuality, prior to the Bridge being built, Yooperland was more closely aligned with Wisconsin than it was with that foreign land south of the Straits
