so i just bought this watch 3 days ago and i want to say that the battery life is pretty okay for me. i finally got a chance to use it fairly often during work for about 10 hours 4am-2pm and i still have 42% battery. It just depends on how much you use the screen and how bright the screen is. Anyways, so far i really really like this watch i'm glad i bought it!
Wow we have been waiting for this smartwatch so long and it seemed to be the answer to what we really wanted to see in such a product. The fact that it barely gets through a day with a charge (The Verge) or even has to be charged twice a day (WSJ) destroys the high hopes in an instant. The best hardware does not help if you can't use it because it is out of battery.
This video made me sub.. Loved the way it was shot, the voice over and the way the review just flowed.. that voice over really made this video nice to watch and hear.. good job..
I have had a full 24 hours now with the Moto 360. Here is my take on it thus far. - Stylish design and looks great (at least for a smart watch). - Feels good on wrist, but I really want the metal band later. - Not too accurate for pulse on me at least. But it is close and works most of time. - I use the Retrograde clock look (black) and looks awesome on screen. Bottom cut-off portion does not cut into this clock look. - On that, bottom cutt-off isn't bothersome at all. You don't even notice it. - Google camera app is cool and takes remote pics. - Navigation is extremely handy while driving for quick glances. - More apps in future will be great and there is tons of potential for growth. - Voice recognition is fantastic and very accurate. Only complaint - battery life of course! It is livable though. If they would release a setting to turn automatic gestures OFF I think battery life would become a full 24 hours. Maybe use the palm covering feature of turning screen off to also turn on. Fast and easy to do. I didn't think a smart watch would ever suit me and always thought that they would be impractical. I mean, you still got your phone next to you displaying all this. However, after using now I see the benefit. I now feel like I can leave my phone laying around the house without feeling like I need it right beside me all the time! This actually is a BIG relief! More so than I thought.
EXCELLENT REVIEW! Just like all others review should be done... Very unbiased!! Gives details! Pros and cons... Very professional and it kind of gives you an idea of what is like having the product in a everyday life! Very proud of this work!
This looks amazing, I think it'll be a toss up between this and the LG Watch R. Did I see software stuttering at 1:54? Good thing Android Wear is getting an update soon (as of this writing).
Why the fuck would you need a week long lasting battery watch? I mean is it really that convenient to have it on you all the time, 24/7 while you shower, eat, swim, sleep? Motorola thought this through to make it naturally convenient. It's simply just; going to work/school, get back home, take all your shit off, set watch on the charging dock and you are done for the day!.. See how absurd it sounds to be having a week long lasting battery watch at this generation?? I mean most smartphones aren't even capable of that yet. Not to mention that the update that Motorola had just released for the Moto 360 had made the battery last so much longer than usual, and to me that is one hell of an improvement.
Galaxy gear here and battery life is roughly 12hrs if u have it show the clock when u motion ur wrist if u turn that off and use the button to check time it lasts 2 days a charge.
I don't know what you all are doing on your smart watches...but my LG G Watch has three email accounts, facebook/twitter/g+/reddit/instagram/etc., plus numerous news notification apps (AP/Bleacher Report/ESPN)...and when I undock at 7:30am, use it all day, and then place on the dock to charge at 10p, I still have ~65% battery left and I leave the screen on all day. I'm going to charge my phone nightly regardless, having to charge another device isn't that big of a deal.... Wait for the battery to break in a bit before you write off a product's initial results. The LG G Watch may be the "ugly brick" watch, but it's still got the largest battery of an AW device, fits my needs, and I absolutely love it.
As someone who primarily looks at Apple products, this looks incredible. I'll likely be skipping both Apple's and Moto's first product releases, but if both watches improve the same amount next year I'll be very keen to try this out first. Android wear seems to be holding this back the most, and I'd like to see what customization can be done to optimize the software for the round face, etc.
My main was question is, what apps are it compatible with? I mean, I use an alternative texting app, would those notifications show because they show on my phone?
i think moto nailed the design. i'll probably wait a year or so until i get one. there still needs to be more development with the OS, screen res, and battery life. great review!
Hello, First I must say that I did enjoy this video, the review, and the overall presentation of all three. In the comments I do see that there is a lot to say about the battery life. I would like everyone to keep in mind that we are all different. One users use of a device is drastically different than anothers. For instance, I do not use more than %33 brightness on my phone and never have: thus my gs5 battery life is much more than reported. All said the point is this. The reviewer only had the device for a short time, inducing a lot of excitement and instant use. I imagine as the device becomes a staple in your life and in turn is used how it should be, aka not a second screen to control a phone from but more and information hub, the length of use will increase, that with updates and other unforeseeable possibilities I would not worry too much. It looks as if to be a great device and I would not let much hinder that. Plus if it does not fit you, it is indeed returnable to a Best Buy or most definitely will have comporable resale value at your public market of choice. Thank You. Hope this helped some. P. Caper
I had two concerns: 1. Will the display deliver a resolution, high enough, that e.g. analog watchfaces will look good. 2. Will the battery last at least a hole day with normal use. Well...now I'm dissapointed. I gues I have to wait a little bit more, but patience is not one of my strongest points. I was already dissapointed about the little black bar on the bottom...but that was at least no deal breaker.
I'm still trying to figure out the immediate need for a smart watch. What's interesting is Motorola's very own Moto X (1st & 2nd gen) in particular has so many features that make having a smart watch redundant.
That supposed 12hr battery is a deal breaker for me. Although I really wanted to have Google on my wrist, it looks like I'll have to wait for next year. I own the Gear 2 and I love that it lasts 2-3 days in one charge. I like that you can answer phone calls, I like that it's waterproof, but I do not like the "hit or miss" with the voice command and I feel like app support/availability will not be as great in the future as Google.
I love my gear 2, I do agree the round looks nicer, however after seeing how the messages, emails, texts, etc is cut off by the roundness, I just dont know. I think I'll pass on this one, plus I handled one at best buy, it's bigger than I anticipated it would be.
Hey, Question, Hope someone can answer. Does anyone know what the watch can do without a phone. I'm getting a new android phone in 6 months when my current phone goes away. I want to buy the watch in around 1 month when it comes out here, and I was wondering, can I atleast see the time and track heartbeat & stuff?
I thought that when this came out, it would be the best looking smart watch available - but I'm actually quite liking the new LG G watch R. Still a great looking piece of hardware though - just shame about that battery life.
The LG R might look good in the pictures but one review commented that the bezel is rather plastic-looking. Also the bezel will necessarily make the screen smaller or the watch larger than the Motorola as it adds a large and essentially useless border.
I quite like the fact the screen looks recessed rather than raised as on the 360. I think though I just need to get my hands on some of these devices to see what they're really like :)
gorgeous watch, much better looking than the iwatch, seems like it has all the functionality that one would need, definitely interested in buying this, it looks classic, hopefully the next generation will have improvements like battery life
***** Yes, that's exactly why I wouldn't get it. I'm not sure how much I would use it... especially if I don't feel like wearing something so big on my wrist. I wear my Jawbone UP everyday, but that's pretty small compared to other bands and devices. I'd prob use the 360 a decent amount if the fitness tracking things were decent enough; however, Jawbone's 'insights' are my favorite thing ever.
I'm into fitness/health, so. I like jawbone though because it does track your sleep too (which I should be getting now, but of course am not ROFL). Google came out with their Fit for your phone, but I don't keep my phone on me often enough for it to be useful for me. But depending on what notifications you see, I do do a lot of work all the time so I could see it making notifications -slightly- easier. Again, though. Most of these things aren't to the level where it justifies the price point for me personally. How does the voice activation work? I have a Moto X, and sure, Motorola Assist and Google Now sounds all snazzy when it's done by actors in an HD marketing video. But real life? Well, real life's a bitch. Excuse the expresion. ;)
A fair and reasonable first impression by the Verge? Wow. I found all the criticisms of this video fair. And although I'm not really a wearable tech person, if I were to get a smartwatch right now the Moto 360 will definitely be the one I got. But I'd rather wait a year or two longer to see other companies improve on this idea. Hopefully somebody (maybe LG considering how much the G2 and G3 stepped up) will really step up their game next year and give us a light circular watch with wireless charging and 30+ hours battery life.
Can somebody please tell me if this is available for purchase? My hubby really wants one and I want to surprise him with it for Christmas before he buys it for himself. So is it out on the market now?
I really like it, but i just can't stop watching that black line at the bottom, i try but for some reason it makes me unconfortable... hope thay can fix that in future models
I like this watch. Looks nice, but if 12 hours is all you get on battery, I'm ok. Hopefully the iWatch can rectify battery life. Make it last at least 1.5 days.
This watch is so beautiful I'd really really love to get it...but I think I'll be forced to wait. I work at my desk most of the time and I've always have my Moto X with me so I don't need to keep it on every single moment and stress it. The problem is: I can live with my phone's daily recharge rates but what if I add a watch and then something else? Can't they really make batteries bigger and such? It's 2014, you can't sell a watch that doesn't even cover the day and pretend it to be a success...maybe they're not even trying ot but still, is there a "Moto 360 v2" around the corner or this is the only one we should get for a while? I wasn't even interested in smartwatched before A) I started needing a watch B) I saw this Moto 360. This is clearly above every other s.w. but that battery life scares me. Forgot the last questio: does it work with Runtastic already syincing with the phone account or will it be available when Android L and Google Fit comes to the watch?
I don't understand why a lot of people are saying wait to see what Apple does because regardless of which is better people looking at this watch have an Android phone and thus won't be able to get an iWatch anyways and people looking at Apple's watch obviously have an iPhone and won't be able to get this watch regardless. Nobody is gonna choose their phone based on the watch, they choose their watch based on their phone which means the two can't really compete
I've thought about getting the Moto 360 and I think it's the best option out there so far, but honestly I'll just wait at least another year to make a smart watch purchase. This industry is still new. Now that Apple has entered the market, competition will be better and hopefully prices will drop too.
That charger though. That's why I like the one charger for samsung. Yeah, it's bulky and a hassle to keep up with, but you can charge it in your car like that though, right?
I NEED THIS WATCH! Motorola Mobility I HATE you for not releasing this in the UK today :-(
#Moto360
Well, so try using a service like borderlinx...
eBay was invented for a reason :)
SuperSaf TV why wouldnt they release It in the UK?

props to david and the verge production team. excellent video.

Excellent assessment as always Mr. Pierce. Thanks for the heads up about the screen cut off.
This video made me sub.. Loved the way it was shot, the voice over and the way the review just flowed.. that voice over really made this video nice to watch and hear.. good job..
Good review David Pierce. I like the honesty & your closing statements about the 360 & all smartwatches present & on the horizon.
This is probally the single best review i have ever seen, the level of detail and clarifying the verdicts was truely nice to watch

- Navigation is extremely handy while driving for quick glances.
- More apps in future will be great and there is tons of potential for growth.

Very proud of this work!
Good review! Seems honest and straight forward. Nice to see for once. :-)
Yes.
Yes being waiting for this long time.
This looks amazing, I think it'll be a toss up between this and the LG Watch R. Did I see software stuttering at 1:54? Good thing Android Wear is getting an update soon (as of this writing).
I am subscribing to you after this review. I thoroughly enjoyed it and did not tune out unlike the other review videos.

Finally a fair reviewer on the Verge not biased? awesome

Just love those reviews. So perfeccionist ♥

Loved the video. Very informative. Loved the vocals. What kind of mic do you use. Is it USB?
good job on sound and edit man, nice video.
My main was question is, what apps are it compatible with? I mean, I use an alternative texting app, would those notifications show because they show on my phone?
Really well filmed and reviewed, thanks
Was the watch set for timeout on the display and auto brightness? Or was it left active all the time?
ok, That was the best review i've ever seen, it has a lot of amazing shots man, Keep it up
Thank you for useful review. can't wait till you post a review for the Iwatch.
i think moto nailed the design. i'll probably wait a year or so until i get one. there still needs to be more development with the OS, screen res, and battery life. great review!
Damn, this is exactly what a review should be. Thanks.
1:43, what if it fell on the edge?

Id like to see how long the battery last if you set android wear to turn the screen off when not being used that how i have my lg set
What can you say about the straps ? what is more comfortable ?
articulate review, intrigued subscriber. Keep up the work!
I had two concerns:
1. Will the display deliver a resolution, high enough, that e.g. analog watchfaces will look good.

That was a really good review. It was amazingly informative. Thanks.
Any idea if this will have an independent mp3 player that I can use with a set of wireless bluetooth headphones????
What carriers does it work on, as far as phones?
Great and well balanced commentary. Thank you.
How's the waterproofing, and does it come with NFC?
I would get this and a Nexus 5 in a heartbeat over my current iPhone 5S and my 6 Gen. iPod nano watch.
I'm still trying to figure out the immediate need for a smart watch.
What's interesting is Motorola's very own Moto X (1st & 2nd gen) in particular has so many features that make having a smart watch redundant.
Give this man a clap? Best review I have ever seen! 👏👏

Can you charge it without carrying around that docking station? I'm rarely ever home.
does it even store some music? if not forget it. should have some tunes on it that i can listen to using bluetooth headphones
I love my gear 2, I do agree the round looks nicer, however after seeing how the messages, emails, texts, etc is cut off by the roundness, I just dont know. I think I'll pass on this one, plus I handled one at best buy, it's bigger than I anticipated it would be.
1:55 look how laggy that is
Hey, Question, Hope someone can answer. Does anyone know what the watch can do without a phone. I'm getting a new android phone in 6 months when my current phone goes away. I want to buy the watch in around 1 month when it comes out here, and I was wondering, can I atleast see the time and track heartbeat & stuff?
Why were you guys at Chicago?
The Verge makes such high quality videos
A damn good review. kudos!
A watch looks best when circular. Besides as u said a wide veraity of themes of watches makes it cool.
Will this work the same in australia?
Does the moto 369 come with that briefcase?
David. You're the man for reviewing gadgets. 360 looks nice tho
I thought that when this came out, it would be the best looking smart watch available - but I'm actually quite liking the new LG G watch R. Still a great looking piece of hardware though - just shame about that battery life.

Not really looking for more devices that constantly need a charge to keep it going throughout the day. Back to my good old fashioned "watch"!
Now this is very nice review, thanks Verge! (and pleas shut those Apple bias down) ;)
Question: Does Android wear work with an iPhone at all? And if so: how good/bad is it?
Is the moto 369 only work in the moto phones or its only watch it it can work in note 3 and sorry but I do anything about it
Great design, when could we expect a 2nd Gen, there are so many improvements to come if they listen to the customers
gorgeous watch, much better looking than the iwatch, seems like it has all the functionality that one would need, definitely interested in buying this, it looks classic, hopefully the next generation will have improvements like battery life
Awesome, AWESOME review! Thanks!
Does the moto 360 work with 3rd party watch bands
Very slick review!
Wow, perfect review. Now I wish I had the money to spend on this thing. Alas...
***** Don't like it?
***** Yes, that's exactly why I wouldn't get it. I'm not sure how much I would use it... especially if I don't feel like wearing something so big on my wrist. ***** Oh yea, sheesh. I guess I assumed you would be able to.
Just ordered mine just after 11 CT. It said deliver around Sept 19th. Anyone get a earlier shipping date?
Great balanced review. Thanks!
Wow, this review is spectacular! I hope you do one for the Apple Watch! I'm subscribing with hope that you will!
tq so much for your direct & clear detailed review
how many device are compatible to moto 360? i ordered one yesterday
does bbm work on the watch ?
A fair and reasonable first impression by the Verge? Wow. I found all the criticisms of this video fair. And although I'm not really a wearable tech person, if I were to get a smartwatch right now the Moto 360 will definitely be the one I got.
But I'd rather wait a year or two longer to see other companies improve on this idea. Hopefully somebody (maybe LG considering how much the G2 and G3 stepped up) will really step up their game next year and give us a light circular watch with wireless charging and 30+ hours battery life.
Excellent review, thanks!
I'll wait for the next gen hopefully with perfect circle better battery and maybe software features (asus did it).
Can somebody please tell me if this is available for purchase? My hubby really wants one and I want to surprise him with it for Christmas before he buys it for himself. So is it out on the market now?
Yeah, its been available for a couple months already.
Performance based on the video seems to be really terrible. Is that true for all android wear watch or just the Moto 360? Just curious.
definetly they have to put a battery in the watchband, but with todays technology that is not possible, "what the fuck are you doing graphene?"
Excellent review, very honest.
Great insight and review
What a wonderful review!
Thank you Sir for this wonderful review.
I really like it, but i just can't stop watching that black line at the bottom, i try but for some reason it makes me unconfortable... hope thay can fix that in future models
Sounds good, probably going to wait until the 2 gen comes out
I like this watch. Looks nice, but if 12 hours is all you get on battery, I'm ok. Hopefully the iWatch can rectify battery life. Make it last at least 1.5 days.
We can hope I heard reports that the battery life on it is not to impressive either
Which is better? This or LG G Watch R. Please explain... Thank you.
Can't you download any watch-face you like with these devices?
Can anyone confirm what navigator or google maps it like on this smartwatch.
I've thought about getting the Moto 360 and I think it's the best option out there so far, but honestly I'll just wait at least another year to make a smart watch purchase. This industry is still new. Now that Apple has entered the market, competition will be better and hopefully prices will drop too.
Would it work with the lg g3
Excellent, balanced review.
I still love my pebble. 5 day battery, water proof up to a several feet, and perfect readability in sunlight.
That charger though. That's why I like the one charger for samsung. Yeah, it's bulky and a hassle to keep up with, but you can charge it in your car like that though, right?
Excellent review
Is it worth it to switch from a Gear 2 to this watch?
