This scene just shows how much Yayan Ruhian slowed down for his fight against Keanu Reeves in John Wick 3. If he went full speed, I doubt Keanu could follow with the choreography.
Plus he’s getting on in years. Which is fine, what a career that guy has lead and I appreciate Keanu for taking advantage of his massive surge in popularity.
@@lordbiscuitthetossable5352 yeah, you're right. Although, Yayan Ruhian is not a spring chicken either, he is actually 53 years old. I'm just happy that Keanu gave both him and Cecep the chance to shine there.
I remember when this movie came out, it was so fresh in it's take on both action movies and martial arts flicks. It also gave us a nice side effect: Dredd is a guns-blazing sci fi version of this movie and is also really good.
Yayan is exemplary at showing character through fighting. MAd Dog is so savage in his fighting style, but in a happy way when he finds enemies who can keep up.
what i love about the martial arts fights in the raid, they feel natural, you see them wearing out and struggling, then pushing through as they know its do or die
It’s funny how yayan like a man without a heart in this movie but if you watch interviews and what he does on the side, he’s a very humble nice guy lol
Both Raid movies are so good that they made me actively dislike some of the older Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan stuff. Gareth's Evans delivered a masterclass in how you shoot and edit a fight scene. No one has bettered him.
@2:30 Yayan says something along the lines of, he hates guns, "they're cowards weapons, ""this here" (when he shows his fists) "this is what i do", he says, he loves to fight, thats kinda exact same way i am when i play MK11 online lol
I watched this movie in the theater in Indonesia, then I watched The raid 2 in theater in the US with English subtitles. Later on I bought both DVDs thru Amazon (I was in the US at the time) and watched it again. Some of the translation just "not hit it quite right" . Also I found out, Indonesian swear words are much more "colorful" than English swear words 😁😁
The interesting thing about this movie is that Iko Uwais wasn't the best fighter, but this man, Yayan Ruhian And Yayan Ruhian had a damn good fight against John Wick. 💪
Check also out ''Merantau'' which is the movie that Gareth Evans made, before ''The Raid''. It also stars Iko Uwais & Yayan Ruhian, this was their first collaboration.
If you like Joe Taslim in fights I highly recommend some of his fights in the show Warrior. Either his fight vs the protagonist Ah Sahm or his fight against Zhing in the second season. Other from that show are awesome though.
I tried to do his fight against Ah Sahm and another scene from that show but they both got blocked entirely and immediately so no luck with that one unfortunately
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 That's a damn shame. Well so long as you're a fan of the show lol. Looking forward to the next season which is alas not slated till 2023
Would love to get your reaction of Batman vs Deathstroke cinematic fight scene from Arkham Origins. It was done by real martial artists in mo-cap suits. It’s so good.
Since you do Muay Thai, I’d recommend Yamada: The Samurai of Ayothaya which has Buakaw Por. Pramuk, Saenchai Sor. Kingstar, Yodsanklai Fairtex, and Anuwat Kaewsamrit in the cast. It has loose historical basis as well about the titular samurai Yamada who becomes a governor in Thailand in the early 1600s
If you wanna see some great Joe Taslim, not sure if you've watched it, but Warrior has some great scenes. HBO show about a man who's come to America from China in the late 1800s, via San Francisco. Joe plays basically the number 2 in one of the main tongs in the town. He shows off his amazing skills in fight scenes with the main protagonist played by Andrew Koji. Granted Andrew Koji and Jason Tobin both also have great fight scenes. (Andrew is the Bruce Lee of the show, and Jason is sort of the crazy knife guy)
this is my favorite scene from both movies. it's just so intense. plus we have a brief look into mad dog's mindset and perception of what he does. the fight is incredible and i love how Joe's taekwondo background shows.the guy is agile yet built like a freaking brickwall XD. the table stunt looks so realistic because something went wrong and joe was hurt for real. they did use the scene nontheless. the ending was so sad, wich is befitting the grim reality of the franchise.
2:24 mad dog say: "Actually i don't like it like this. Pull the trigger, just shoot, there's no taste. Hand-to-hand fighting, this is fun, it's going to be a lot of fun".
My man Joe Taslim getting the knee to the face for real at some point in this fight. They might have practiced to slowing down when made a contact but this one right here is real hard to perform without getting a bit injured

When he puts the gun down after getting in the room, he's explaining to Taslim's character how he compares using guns as ordering takeout to the fine dining that is close quarters combat. His rationale is that killing is more rewarding when it's done through bare fists and he loves the rush of fighting with his own two hands.
Fyi:Joe Taslim is a former judo athlete and won second place in the Sea Games in 2007... so I think Joe Taslim can easily synchronize with Yayan in the film The Raid
