    Really looking forward to the review! I‘d like to know how the 180-600 compares to the 100-400 with the 1.4TC. Wishing you a good time at Yellowstone!

    Stunning video and images. I’ve been following the firs in BC but in the way out to the Grizzlies that was pretty bad! I thought it was bad when we went out to Bute inlet in 2018 but nothing like that. Mind the smell was intense.

    I like my lens on the body when in the bag. I have a Think Tank roller that I love, and it has two dedicated places for two cameras with long lens. When I get to a shoot or somewhere then I break it down into other Shimoda bags. I was always changing bags till I found this setup and it works great for me. Happy shooting and I still cannot get my 100-400mm Nikon lens to focus right. All others focus great. IDK I guess I should send it in. Can't wait to see your next video Hudson...Peace.

    5:38 Nice!!! I just purchased that pouch due to your recommendation. 1.5 liters looks like the perfect size. REI has a similar product that's only 1L. I got the no-strap version and will pair it with my Think Tank Speed Belt when not on my backpack's waist belt (Osprey Talon 44). I'm going to be heading to South Korea on October 17th and trying out the iPhone 15 Pro Max camera. I was going to take my Nikon D810 with the 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 F/4 but the option to travel light and fast is too much to pass up! I've used the SONY RX100IV extensively in 2018 for landscapes and liked the results but it stopped working a few years ago. I expect the 15 Pro Max to rival that SONY. That NYA-EVO Assistant will hold my phone and accessories. So excited! Thanks again, Hudson! Good luck with the workshops!! 💪😎

    Hey Hudson - Steve Perry just did a studio comparison with the 180-600, and I found his results surprising vs. the 100-400. I’ll be very interested to hear your opinion after real world use. Hope you, Rick and David have a great time in Yellowstone!

      Thanks Carl. I currently don't love it and plan to send it back. It's a big, sharp budget lens many will love, but it's no match for the 100-400. It's big, clunky, less versatile, less well made, and less special in its image quality to my eye. The lens foot integration is really bad. Kind of like the 24-200, surprisingly sharp, but still a budget option with serious compromises. Sharp and great aren't necessarily synonymous.

      Interesting take on the 180-600. A lot of reviews are showing it is sharper edge to edge than the 100-400 (add on the TC and the quality of the 180-600 edges it even more). I've used the 100-400 and loved it and was about to buy. On the fence now that the 180-600 is out. Add in the internal zoom (huge knock on the 100-400 for me...very budget design for me) and the price. It is a much more bang for the buck lens. Focus speed, weight, and size of the 100-400 are a plus in that direction. Granted I have not held or shot with it so only going off the reviews I've seen (so I'm not in a place to compare).I look forward to your image quality review. @@HudsonHenryPhoto

      I've fired a thousand frames from Oregon to Yellowstone and Moab though it. My review is next week. Great optics for sure. Not keeping it though. The size, weight, balance, lens collar and overall handling area a massive deal breaker for me. There'd never be a time I choose to pack it over the 100-400. You'd be hard pressed to tell the sharpness difference in the real world between the two with or without the 1.4tc. I love the compactness handholdability, and image quality of the 100-400. It totally replaced the 70-200 for me. I've had it in freezing weather, torrential downpours, and sand storms without an issue at all with the size and weight saving expanding zoom. I love it. I find it the far better lens of the two. That said, the 180-600 will make many car bound, wildlife only and budget shooters more than happy. It's just not my choice.

    Hey Hudson! I´ve received my 180-600 mm last week and I´m planning to test it on my upcoming trip to Scotland this week. Since there are no 3rd party tripod collar options for this lens yet, I was considering getting a arca compatible plate and I saw yours on this video. Which one is this? Does it have two holes? Can you even recommend it?
    Maybe for a future video you could talk about some options to have your telephoto mounted on a tripod and at the same time be able to attach a strap (BlackRapid or something similar) to it, without much hassle. Thanks again and keep the good content coming! cheers!

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've done a number of videos on how I sling everything from my Z9 with the 800 to the Q3 on my beloved Luma labs QD loop. There's a link to that strap with a discount code at my links site under straps and packs: www.hudsonhenry.com/atslinks Kirk needs to do a QD arca foot for the 180-600, but that will take time. In the meantime I'm using one of these to convert the awful stock ring and foot to both arca and QD. bit.ly/46qW9Sn

    Interesting thought about storing the camera without a lens attached. I’m going to think about that in comparison to the dust ramifications of / two additional lens swaps in the field. Maybe by Z8 sensor shield will save me.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd only be concerned in the dustiest conditions imaginable. I've had no more dust on my sensor at all since switching several years ago. Lens on body creates huge wasted space and inefficient padding configurations. Toss a rocket blower in the side pocket, keep the body upside down when open to attach or detach, blow the sensor shield box area out at the end of the day. Easy.

      Well let's just say I'm planning to haul a 400 2.8 TC to Costa Rica very soon and I will take that RCI without a doubt. I've fit them in before already. ;) its a smudge girthier, but shorter than the 800 for sure. We did a test in Charleston with the XL rci and got both the 800 and 400 TC's in with reversed hoods and Z9s attached to each. Heavy, full pack but it works.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I prefer the large RCI to the XL for most things though. You get more in it the way it organizes and it keeps it better protected. ;) not as easy access though. That's the XLs role.

    Great ATS episode! Pack looks cool. I use Shimoda Designs packs myself and really like them and their accessories.
    I just traded my D500 and Tamron 150-600 G2 lens towards a Z8. The 150-600 seemed to underexpose images and I was never that impressed with it. Seriously considering the new 180-600 to own and maybe rent the exotics as needed.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had several people now upgrade to NYA-EVO from shimoda. Zero complaints. I'd put shimoda in the top three makers, but nobody is rivaling these packs for photographers right now. :)
      The 180-600mm seems a improvement over the 200-500 F lens it replaces. I never cared for that one, but I think this is much more worthy. :) enjoy that Z8!

      @skyace888 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HudsonHenryPhoto Thanks. Good to know and will consider that company for the future. I've been pretty happy with Shimoda trekking across national parks, Galapagos, etc.
      Will need to decide on 180-600 or perhaps a more expensive option but for the price it seems very tempting. Maybe I'll try some lenses out soon at my local shop or B&H when I'm next up there.
      Have a great time in the workshops!

    Have a great time in Yellowstone and Moab! I can hardly wait to hear your thoughts on the 180-600 lens after you have used it a little (especially on a Z8/Z9).
    I understand that since you have the 100-400 S, that the 180-600 isn't a good fit, but for those of us (especially amateurs) who have neither, would the 180-600 be a good choice or is the 100-400 so good that it is worth the extra roughly $1k (almost $2k after a TC is added)?

  • @FlyinRyanProductions406
    @FlyinRyanProductions406 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 180-600mm has been fantastic! Upgraded the 200-500 (my last f mount) and it’s defiantly a vast improvement. It’s a bit bittersweet seeing my last f mount go tho.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I'm glad you're loving it! I am not surprised. The 200-500 had a lot of optical compromises. I think it's quite an upgrade from that lens. But really every single Z lens is a significant improvement from the F mount before it. The only exception is the 70-200 2.8 FL ED which was released just before the S version and is nearly as good.

    Will the Z8 with L-Bracket and the 180-600mm mounted fit in the large RCI? I couldn't tell if there was enough room since you didn't have it mounted in the video. I'm trying to find a good bag/insert for this combo.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so, but I'd NEVER put a camera with long lens mounted in a backpack anyway. It's a huge waste of space, the risks are way higher you damage it and pulling caps and mounting a lens takes a small fraction of the time required to pull the pack off and open it in the first place. :)

      Not sure how you can have a meaningful comparison between these two lenses, one’s a zoom the other fixed focal length, so they are entirely differently beasts surely! 👍😀

    I have the Nya Evo Fjord 60c and the smaller version. I brought the 60c with me last August to Iceland. Iceland Air gave me a hard time with the 60c at Seatac. Iceland Air's dimension limits for carry-ons are smaller, I guess.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If that happens pull the RCI and stick it under the seat. I've yet to have it happen to me, but I don't load the pack with much aside from camera gear in the RCI. Most often I roll the gear on in my pelican Air and then pack nonessentials into the backpack to check in my big osprey rolling duffle with clothes and my tripod.

Yep the NYA-EVO 60C is the finest camera bag I've ever tested or owned by a very long measure. You can find out more in the gear section of my site: www.hudsonhenry.com Stay tuned for the lens news.

    While I like the idea of internal zoom, 180-600 just too big for walking too far, doesn’t fit in backpack. Tending towards 100-400 to replace my heavy 200-500.
