When I started to watch the show I saw I had two options, either I could be angry and sad because this is not the Yen from the books and never enjoy the full show, or I could embrase the fact that this is the shows version of Yennefer and have a good time. I've seen a lot of people say that she's too vulnerable in the tv show compared to the books and the game. But there is a sort of strength in showing your vulnerabilities. So in my eyes the tv show did yennefer justice in showing she has her faults but is strong. I mean at the end it showed that despite what she went through she is still kicking and fighting. In my eyes she's badass and a well rounded character and its only been the 1st season. (In case you can't tell I write and read a lot of books and I'm an avid tv show watcher and gamer)😂
Don't you think they made her a horrible person in this show? In the books she's bitchy, but never seen her betray loved ones for power. Here she doesn't care about anyone, she just uses people like tools and doesn't care if they are hurt or die. She also blames others for her own choices. And I don't think that's what I'd call a strong person. Does tough childhood justify hurting people? If so, I guess we should see Geralt do the same since his wasn't any easier.

(You could say she used kind of magical rape pill) 5. Using spell on Geralt to take revenge for her (djinn episode), ending up with him being in a cell and going to die for that. (she didn't even care about him, in the books was going to save him. if he didn't escape he would be sentenced to death because of her using him as a tool. how about that? did she care? did she try to help him? did she at least say sorry? No, no and no...) Other things, constantly blaming others for everything that happens to her. - deciding to trade motherhood for external beauty (again no such thing in the books), then blaming "them" for "taking it away from her" - blaming Geralt for controlling her (talking about him saving her with his wish from being killed by the djinn) BTW. Geralt also had "very real trauma" after all he got through (left by his mother, witcher mutations that almost killed him etc). And he tends to act like a decent human being... Even though I must say they also changed him for the worse.

@@kuba6156 Disclaimer: I am only commenting on the show, not the books or video game. by overshadowing they mean character arc wise. right now yennefer has a strong character arc that is very compelling to people who have only seen the tv show. her journey from being perceived as weak to strong as well as her finding out that she doesn't want power but to be important to someone is relateable. her moral code also seems to be evolving through the show. geralt has potential but we haven't seen much of his character arc yet, but yennefer has undergone an entire transformation in 1 season. because we saw yennefer grow as a character into who she is now, the audience has grown attached to her. i am curious to see the character development for geralt in the future bc he does have a lot of potential to be more than what we see rn.

As for Geralt, I guess we won't see too much of his developement since Mrs Lauren isn't too interested in him. She said since the start that she wants to show the stories of "strong women". As you noticed we didn't see too much of him and it's not a coincidence. Comparing to the books he was made less important in every story told in the show.

everyone has its part, I don't think she overshadow him, yes he has moments of power/ weakness and we as humain empathy with her rough childhood but he did as well have a lot of moments of good fighting and making decision , to see him not believing is faith to looking for Ciri..
Her obsession with wanting a child and to be a mother makes her very dislikable to me, and in my opinion it ruins her character (I know she's a mother figure for Ciri later so I know it serves a purpose, but I stand my ground).
Since she did not manage to save the baby she regrets the choice she made to become beautiful, and she wants to become fertile again it is contradictory can be a little cliché and easy but its makes the character even more human. as she says "i dreamed of becoming important to someone someday" yes there are Geralt but given her traumatic childhood she wants to give the love she never had to a child. Sometimes we regret the choices we make and want to go back and it's relatable.
