June, your Budget videos have really changed the way I cook. I make sure to reuse the scraps I would normally throw away (ex: cilantro stems, pumpkin seeds, etc) I try to buy more ingredients that I would never normally buy to experiment with like you often do (ex: the bloody spleen) I constantly think of ways of how I can reuse my leftovers. Thank you!!
I’ve always tried to use everything I have. What June has inspired in me is bravery and confidence in the kitchen! I don’t play it safe anymore. I try new things and weird things and I go for it even if I might “fail.” Because any “failure” is really a learning experience.
ALDI, there are multiple Aldi stores starting within 27 min from Queens & that's calculating traffic. I live on the west coast so unfortunately no ALDI but the majority of the US has an ALDI within driving distance & they're in 11 countries so it would be great to get you to an ALDI store.
Excellent idea! I have way too many things in my pantry plus I have to rely on my homecare people to tell me what's in there because I can't walk right now so I buy some things that I find from my other homecare person that I already had that item! So I'd love to get rid of some soon to be expired
As a person who grew up in a very poor household and my mom would make the best meals she could out of food bank boxes or government boxes, your channel warms my heart. You honestly don't have to have a ton of money to put a great meal on the table for your family. I’d love to see more holiday episodes! As far as where to shop, I’ve always shopped at Price Chopper, which is based in upstate NY, so it’s not too far off. Expired food tip: tiny taste.. if its metallic tasting or your tongue tingles or burns, it is bad. You can also just put it on your lips, they will tingle/burn the same way but no taste involved. On meats, if you can't tell while in the package, while starting to cook and especially before adding any seasoning, smell the cooking smell, if there's an odd or super sweet smell, let it cool down and throw it out. If you HAVE to eat it, make sure your internal temperature is over 180 degree Fahrenheit. Eat at your own risk, I'm not liable, just trying to help from a long childhood of food scarcity.
I concur with the "have to eat it" advice. The best way to make sure it really ALL gets up to temperature is to boil it and keep it at a boil 5 minutes. You can boil in water, broth, tomato juice, etc.
Also June- so sorry about your mom. I watched your livestream after she died and it is so obvious how wonderful of a woman she was. She was brave, hard working, and beautiful- you seem to have inherited all of these qualities too❤️
*FOR REMOVING PICKLE, etc SMELL from Jars, you can also soak the jar and lid in boiling water with baking soda, leave to soak overnight and then put in dishwasher 👏🏻 Works really well!

Thank you for acknowledging that buying small and local is a luxury for many people. I see so much shaming on food channels and blogs toward people who shop at the conglomerate, big box stores because ethics, sustainability, etc. But for many families, it’s all they can afford. I would love to shop exclusively at farmers markets, locally owned meat and seafood markets, and the most sustainable stores…but that’s often out of my limited budget.

You should considering making bittermelon fried up with potatoes (+ chilli powder + turmeric etc). The potatoes really balance out the bitterness and I think you’d love the texture of the crunchy fried bittermelon seeds

Budget eats has become a favorite series. I'm sure it's because of June. So creative, great personality and just plain fun. I don't consume animal products, but it hasn't put me off - even when you used spleen. I'm definitely a June fan!
A mushy dessert in Germany is called „Mohnpielen“. Basically kinda bread pudding with poppyseed filling. Mushy, sweet, in some parts of Europe a traditional Christmas thing but I can eat it during the whole wintertime.
You are spot on about textural preference. I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and this is definitely a thing most of us have, although most don’t ever really think about. Food preferences fascinate me.

Smelly Jar Tip: wash jars or containers with dishwashing liquid with baking soda! :) also works well for washing oily containers!

Not a question, but I want to say how much I love this series. I’ve sat through countless ads for Axe body spray just to watch this, which was such a comfort during an incredibly challenging time in all our lives. Some watch “The Office,” I watch “Budget Eats.”
I’m also so glad someone asked about the chicken skin; every time I watch that episode I’ve wondered which of June’s dreams were dashed!!
I watched you from the beginning of the budget eats and even your reaction video on Paris Hilton before budget eats began! Love your mindset and sense of humor! I believe you mention your mom in your 1st budget eat when you made tomato egg rice so my heart ached when I first heard about your mom’s passing those months ago. Glad you had some time and happy to see you posting here once more. Wishing future peace and happiness during these hard times, watching/listening to you in background during these pandemic days has been a creature comfort to me. Shes so very humble. Not everyone is blessed with inside understanding of great food combinations that go well together. Her knowledge of spices is just amazing. Most importantly, she makes everyone feel they can cook as well. Blessings to u all.
I missed you June! So sorry about the loss of your Mom. It’s tough. My Mom passed a couple of years ago. The ache will probably not disappear, but it tempers over time and the happy memories keep us going.

You should considering making bittermelon fried up with potatoes (+ chilli powder + turmeric etc). The potatoes really balance out the bitterness and I think you’d love the texture of the crunchy fried bittermelon seeds

I'm so sorry that your mom passed away. My father passed away a couple of months prior to Covid and I spent Covid living in his home, cleaning it out, selling certain things. It's not fun, yet necessary. Thank you for sharing this part of your journey with us!!!!

It might be few ingredients you purchase but the way you put it together with all your spices and condiments makes it so much more. My big question though is, Do you ever sit down at a table to eat your meals? So sorry for your Mom's passing, but so happy to have you back.

Who else has stopped throwing away “expired” stuff since watching budget eats? 🙋🏻♀️ June’s approach to cooking has really inspired me to explore my cupboards and just learn to wing-it sometimes rather than constantly restocking and letting food at the back of the shelves go unnoticed. Plus I’ve also made use of most of the stalks and fibrous parts of vegies that I would’ve easily chucked away in the past. This series is an absolute gem. Budget eats has become a favorite series. I'm sure it's because of June. So creative, great personality and just plain fun. I don't consume animal products, but it hasn't put me off - even when you used spleen. I'm definitely a June fan!

A mushy dessert in Germany is called „Mohnpielen“. Basically kinda bread pudding with poppyseed filling. Mushy, sweet, in some parts of Europe a traditional Christmas thing but I can eat it during the whole wintertime.
You are spot on about textural preference. I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and this is definitely a thing most of us have, although most don’t ever really think about. Food preferences fascinate me.
