    2. Do you have to leave your door open/unlocked otherwise people bang on your door until you unlock it?
    - 14:07

      at 16:45 I went on a tangent on some factors to consider if you're not taking a full course load. For UofT's medical school, there is something known as the wGPA (weighted GPA) which basically says that if you engaged with a full course load then they will take off your worst grades (up to 4 FCE - full course equivalents if you apply with 4 years of full study before matriculating). There are other programs that appeal to those who take full course loads, but I only know UofT for now because it's my goal school after I graduate!
      More info can be found here: md.utoronto.ca/gpa-and-gpa-weighting

    Hey Martin, great videos :) I'm currently trying to decide where I should accept for the fall, and right now I am deciding between McMaster LifeSci and Western AEO and either MedSci or Science. Do you know anyone in Mac LifeSci and do you know if their marks are comparable to Western MedSci or Science (difficulty wise)? Also, do you think it's manageable to do the dual Ivey and MedSci degree, or would you say it would be easier to get a higher GPA doing Ivey and Science? Lastly, are the course options similar in Science and MedSci at Western?

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Mackenzie! Congrats on your acceptances! I'm not certain on Mac LifeSci's grading versus our grading at Western, but I think it's best to choose a school that you feel will fit you best! I think it's possible to do the Ivey + Medsci degree with good discipline (I'm considering it because I didn't apply for AEO earlier!) Again, it's up to your career goal and the work you put in that will determine how well you do. For GPA, you'll have to decide for yourself how much extracurricular work is too much to maintain a good GPA, once you strike a balance then you'll see your results improve. Don't be afraid to fail, because you never know how much you're truly capable of doing until you try! As for Science vs MedSci, the first 2 years are pretty much the same until you get into medsci specific modules!! Thanks again for watching! I hope this helped you out! :) Keep being curious and asking questions, that's the way to be a great student! Good luck!

    Loved ur vid!! Cutting to the chase, is Western gonna be hard? I know that u already kinda answered my question but I really want a personal response bc I reluctantly chose Western over u of t. Also, what sort of assignments do they give out in their science-based programs (essays/labs)? R their tests and exams ridiculously hard or are they reasonable? Do they grade essays, research papers, assignments easily? I know that there's no such thing as easy, especially when it comes to uni but still.... Sorry for the sheer amount of questions. I am a very anxious and curious individual.
    I’m currently in grade 12, and I’ve had a 92/93 average through high school without trying AT ALL.

      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Congrats on your acceptance! I don't think Western is hard, UofT would be where you'd want to be for more of a challenge if I'm being honest (also why reluctantly?). For the first couple of years, I don't believe we have any essays/lab reports to write. The labs we perform we just need to collect data and answer a few questions and hand it in 1 week before the next lab (they're biweekly). The tests and exams were fair to me, nothing too hard. Also, I believe that the classes are as easy as you make them for yourself, study enough and you'll be fine... else you will probably find it hard (for good reason). I'm not sure how much high school marks matter for comparison due to how much marks can vary between schools. Hope this helped anyway, all the best! Thanks for watching:)

Is the program suitable for me if I want to get into the research in neuroscience ?( I know there is a module about that) Comparing it with lifescience in u of t, which do you think is better(or are they approximately the same) ? @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks for watching the video!
      There are definitely research opportunities here at Western, especially with the modules. However, I believe UofT does have the most research funding out of the Canadian schools! My friend Brandon Yu (his channel is in the description), is in Life Sciences at UofT and coincidentally he's doing neuroscience as well! Don't be afraid to reach out to him for questions! (Say what's up for me haha).
      Back to Medsci, there is space for 1.0 credits as an elective first year (1 course per semester is free). Therefore, it is possible to fit in the business course for Ivey!

Those programs are likely similar in subject matter with med sci starting a bit more general (we're general science for the first 2 years). Hey! Applied math involves topics like differential equations, basic linear algebra and some statistics in a biological context (google "applied math 1201 uwo" and you'll find the course outline! If you don't take calc second semester, your module choices are limited (ie biophysics has 2nd sem calc as a requirement). However, since I am not interested on the modules that require more math I was okay with doing that. care to share why?

    • @dudesah1446
      @dudesah1446 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin Leung “pre-med” has pretty much no meaning in Ontario. Ontario medical schools don’t require you to take specific courses like many schools in the US do. That means any undergrad student could apply to med school - any of them could be considered a “pre-med”. Calling yourself a pre-med is kind of an obnoxious way of saying you want to apply to med school in the future. I would only use it if I were in QuARMS or some other accelerated route to med school.

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@dudesah1446 Correct, you can still be "pre-med" if you're in any other program. I use it in the context that you say I am using it in, basically saying I intend to go to med school in the future. I don't see it as a big deal to use it in this case because whether I'm in med sci, QuARMS, mac health sci or whatnot I'm still on the path to go to med school. As for being obnoxious, I can see where that comes from but it just saves me some breath from saying "I want to be a doctor". Otherwise I see it the same way as saying something like "I want to be a lawyer (ie pre-law)" so in that sense I don't see it as a huge issue. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
