That is true. IQ tests only measure the ability to solve those types of questions.
With enough practice, one can easily boost their scores on those tests.

My grandfather was a math genius and was a very smart person, but boy did he have his limitations too like the rest of us.

Nope , that just a memory test , I did that cube easily , then went on to fail my Math 😢

@@A2Z1Two3 that's kinda the point of my comment. People think it's a measure of skill or intelligence, but really it's just memorising an algorithm.
Similar to how the test in the video would show skill at rotating objects, but not general intelligence.
(Sorry for over explaining on you...)

This is the most intelligent non-physics commentary of Tyson's I've heard.

I tanked on every Standardized Test. That contributed to me viewing myself as less than intelligent for my youth and a good part of my adulthood. I finally realized that my form of intelligence was not assessed in those tests. It was transforming.

Yes but to be fair this test ended up being the best predictor of success. This test is also what the SATs are. This test is used in the military to determine who they want to promote.

They measure the ability to learn how to do cognitively challenging task in a relatively short time.

The test I.Q is just a test of what level of education you have received and attained not a test of a persons intelligence or capabilities.

Unfortunately the reason IQ tests are compared to lot of other things in life is being they heavily correlate and oftentimes straight out predict with rather large confidence levels.
Ambition on the other hand are one of the other major components together with (mental)health and social economical status of parents.

I have an IQ of 165.
The main thing that means is that I am very good at doing well on intelligence tests.

Anything that is promoted in print should be fact checked, reality checked and feasibility checked before being printed.

What Mr. Tyson is referring to is the word itself intelligence is the final result word and not in the proper context because the test is a test on how we process so cognition is a word that describes thinking how we process information. Title used back then was primitive and dualistic, and probably Matt given by the scientist of cells, but probably from a political leader or someone in their administration. Because what he is referring to his back when we were separating people into different groups preparing for war.

Maybe... just MAYBE... you take a Intelligence Testing graduate level class, because that is not what is taught there. There are different kinds of intelligence and the tests are very specific in what they test.

Well, the IQ test was created to determine what children would need special help in school.
It sucks, but it is quite good at what it was created for.
normally under 80, the kid will need help with some things.
what is crazy is the points get multiple by age. So the youngest you are, the biggest the number.
My example, at age 23 I got 137, at age 8 I could get 480

That’s why people are starting to find out those brooks “personality tests” are completely bullshit and useless. The results can change dramatically depending on how your mood was when you took it.

It is OK to be a dualistic thinker, or using anchoring and adjustments to respond, but when you put primitive thoughts and label somebody with them you are sliding into lies and slogans, a political realm. I understand strong passion. I have it, I cannot stand the freedom caucus, I cannot stand Republican set advertise through lies in the political parties because they have a stinker running for the president Position, so they try to bring down the position down to their primitive level. It is important to note if you watch enough of his videos you realize that he has taking on his role in a serious way, the best way he knows, to affect people to get them more interested in science. That is one of his soul goals, Anything else is perception of those watching, he is an easy target and you are easy with the bow you wield.
