      @@clintonanderson7436 recent studies have classified the Octopus' tentacles as arms or legs based on the function. The front 6 tentacles are now considered arms as they are all used for grasping, the rear two tentacles are not used in this way and are only ever used for propulsion; if we wanted use the term appendages instead then a woman with twins would have four too many.

      Hey buddy, :) I might have a trick for you. You can imagine you need to take care of a stubborn tamagotchi-like pet who would need to be fed, cleaned and send to sleep. You can set your routine to match how you would care for your neopet. Sometimes it’s easier to do things when they feel like responsibilities towards others instead of towards yourself. Take care, things get better :)

      I try really hard to smell nice and to keep clean and my roommate was being very verbally abusive about my smell. It made me really self conscious about how my health affected my smell, and nice smells started to warp into gross smells.
      When I hear you tell me I smell good, it's a really great, happy reinforcement of people telling me I smelled okay. And it's helped with fixing my nose.

    • @trishapellis
      @trishapellis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +167

      Well... at least in ordinary humans, black hair genes are normally *dominant* . If violet has at least one allele for black hair, that means that at least one of her parents must have passed her at least one allele for black hair, and if you *have* an allele for black hair, then you *have* black hair (because it's dominant).
      If either of Violet's parents passed a gene for black hair on to her, then that parent *had* to have black hair themself, according to regular human biology. So this would basically mean the hair color genes of superheroes work differently from regular humans' hair color genes.

    23:30 As a 6-7 years old kid back then, I can tell you I totally picked up on that. Children grow to be surprisingly perceptive very quickly, as long as they don't live inside of a bubble. If you wondering why, I loved to read dark fairy tales as a kid (you know, the uncensored stories where sometimes characters actually died and not all stories had a happy ending) and stuff like the Addams. I also grew up finding small animals constantly being abandoned in the woods near to my house. Sometimes, I wasn't lucky enough to find them still alive. Seeing the kittens made me sad and a little angry back then, but... At least, I was glad that they were somewhere better.

    Maybe Violet Parr's hair isn't actually black. Because her power has to do light (invisibility, and it might also play a role in her forcefields), it could be that her hair appearing to be black is an expression of her powers, making what would normally be red or blonde hair absorb more light so it appears to be black. Just like how blue jay feathers don't actually have any blue pigment in them, but appear blue to us because of how light reflects off of them

    I vaguely remember that staircase story.
    The expensive staircase was because it would be concrete. The cheap staircase was wood, and the way it was built wouldn't last more than a couple years before becoming dangerous.
    Although the gesture was nice, I think the city should have left it up while getting the concrete one done.

    • @Darkgun231
      @Darkgun231 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yeah, but a concrete staircase still wouldn't cost $65k to build unless a lot of people are doing something fishy with the finances. You can buy an 80 lb bag of concrete mix (or concrete-esque substitute) for $10 from home depot. And you'd need only three people and a week to make the stairs, so unless you are paying each construction worker, surveyor, and inspector several grand for that one job, I'd be skeptical of the cost assessment.
      Admittedly, I don't know how much construction workers, surveyors, or inspectors are paid, but I highly doubt they are paid per job.

    • @WukongTheMonkeyKing
      @WukongTheMonkeyKing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@Darkgun231 You're part right. I looked up the story, and found out that the mayor got involved. They kept the wood stairs in place until the concrete ones were built, and removed the wooden ones afterwards, because they were not up to code (no foundation, uneven hand rails).
      The mayor also told the city to get a better cost estimate. Total was about $10k. Cost is this high because of all the qccessibility and durability standards that must be met (foundation, metal hand railings, etc.).
      Anyone can grab a bag of concrete. Making it into stairs that will last for over 20 years takes a lot more work. $10k is still high, but not unreasonably high given the standards involved.

      @@WukongTheMonkeyKing yeah 65 grand is absolutely insane. I don't want to sound like a conspiracy nut but prices dont just drop from 65k to 10k without some shady shit going on. No one can undercut the current offer that much while still making it profitable to take on unless there was some fluff money in there. Either the 10k is delusional for pricing their work over 6x less than competition, or someone was getting a bit of spending money for this contract and didn't think anyone would notice the insane price. I think the latter is a bit more believable.

    • @WukongTheMonkeyKing
      @WukongTheMonkeyKing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@randomguyontheinternet5030 the 65k was based on a different type of project, and was a city estimate (someone didn't do their jilob and pulled numbers out of their ass), but not a contractor estimate. The mayor quite rightly called it out, and thanked the guy who built the wood stairs.
      An 85% drop in a contract would probably have a criminal investigation attached. This was just low level incompetence, though.

      @MommyOfZoeAndLiam 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They have to pay for the engineering workup and design to make sure it is structurally sound and they probably have to do some grading work on the ground and possibly some work to stabilize the area with substrade and rebar, etc. Labor costs have to be contracted rates.
      I appreciate the guy who built the wooden stairs, and I am sure they were great at the beginning, but if they are not up to code and someone gets hurt the city could be liable for not tearing down the staircase. On the one hand I'm sure it COULD be done cheaper, but the money is probably accounting for things that I am not even considering right now that have to do with civil engineering and architecture as well as stability.

    In regards to the blond and red head having a kid with black hair... something a lot of people forget to take into account is grandparrents. A person with one hair color can still carry the gene for a different hair color even if they don't express that trait themself. As long as someone in the family has black hair it doesn't have to be the direct parents as the trait could have skipped a generation then the kids can still have a chance of having black hair... it's also possible that she just dyed it and her hair isn't naturally that color.
    The last one in the video... I forget what the word actually is but the fear of long words is itself a very long word. The word lisp is impossible to say if you have one because if you have a lisp you can't correctly pronounce the letter S. I feel like whoever named these conditions was just intentionally being a jerk to everyone who has them.

    • @zivronen9539

      Both blonde and red hair need to be homozygous to be visible.
      It's impossible for dominant genes to be "carried" without being visible.

      My son and his wife are blond/blonde. One of their children has brown hair. There are brunettes on both sides, though. Hair color can be thought of as, in part, a sum of color from both sides if that makes it easier.

    • @18Hongo
      @18Hongo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      In addition; the "dominant vs recessive genes" argument that has already appeared in the comments is wrong. Or, to be more accurate, it's not right. What they taught you in high school biology was the comic-book version of inherited characteristics; the truth is a bit more complicated. So yes, a blonde and a redhead can have a child with black hair, just as two people with brown eyes can have a child with blue eyes.

      The APA list of phobias isn't designed to be exclusive, though. It's a list of regularly treated phobias with clinical significance/severity. A fear of long words of palindromes is not sufficiently limiting to someone's life to need to bring up on a list of fears that need treatment. So, they're phobias, just not the clinical psych disorder kind.

    About the swimmingpool question: Maybe fill it with water mixed with gold grains. Gold is heavier than water and would sink to the bottom. So you would jump in the water, but given the fact you are allowed to keep everything with whatever the pool was filled, the gold and the water would be yours.
