- LEGO Pirates Retrospect: The First Sets (1989-1991)
Pirates is one of my favorite LEGO themes, and after multiple requests from viewers for me to do a deep dive on the theme, I present to you LEGO Pirates Retrospect, a brand new series where I'll be exploring the ins and outs of this legendary theme. From the lore, to the sets, to their legacy and what they meant for LEGO as a whole, LEGO Pirates Retrospect is a project I'm more than excited to work on.

Lego Pirates was my fave. The Baracuda is the toy that got away in my life.
It's such a fantastic theme. I'm sorry to hear about the Barracuda though. What a great set :/
It's easily the most underrated Lego theme out there.
Underrated ? Its one of the most discussable theme when we talk about Lego.
I prefer smiley face than the latter modern lego emotional faces though.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I too love the smiley face heads. They work so well!
Agreed. The classic bright colour with simplistic smileys with some variation like beards or glasses were the best.
The only sort of modern Lego faces I really like are the ones from super miners.
One easy solution to the whole "pirate minifigs are too similar" issue - build just the named characters as intended and then mix and match the parts for the unnamed pirates.
Happy to find more ppl with this much interest in this theme!
Thank you for the support, it means a lot.
amazing recap of pirates - love this
Thanks for the support, Moments
When I was a kid around 1989 I had a lego pirates jumper, with lots of pictures of the fights between the pirates and imperial soldiers on the front and a little lego brick stitched into the front that came with a lego pirate clipped onto it. Wish I still had it, bet it is worth a fortune now lol.
Wow nice recap. Can t wait for the other pirate videos.
Thank you so much, Tommy! I'm glad you're looking forward to more
THANK YOU OR MAKING THIS MASTERPIECE
You're welcome, Ayden. Thanks for the constant support, viewers like you are why I decided to create this series :)
I wonder why they never remade the skull‘s eye schooner… literally the coolest Lego pirate ship ever if it got a newer version.
Fantastic! So many memories! 🤗👌
04:32 - and here I am, looking at the pictures & reviews of the recently revealed 10320 and thinking to myself "look how they massacred my boy" 😅
Great vid Ritchie! I love these retrospective look backs!
Thanks for the support, Scott! Any other themes you'd like to see me cover?
@@OurToyWorld I think you're going to do it next but "Islanders" King Kahuka is my dude! Haha
@@scottdavis_34 I will be going over the Islanders eventually! Either next episode or the one after. Thanks for the support Scott
I got the Forbidden Island set when I was a kid, definite fond memories of early Lego Pirates.
That’s awesome. Thx for sharing
Another incredible video/food for thought, brought to you by the best LEGO journalists in the community 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 nicely done as usual Richie
Thanks again for the constant support SD, means a lot my friend!!!
Great video
Thanks Glubus! How are you feeling about the new Ninjago season?
@@OurToyWorld what new season? I honestly didn’t know a new season was coming out.
@@Glubus Yeah, they released some teaser trailers/footage/mini advertisements (I don't know what to call them) but I guess the new season is called Dragon's rising
@@OurToyWorld OK I’ve done some walking and from what I’ve seen it looks interesting. I’m just glad that they’re keeping the original cast and the animation style. I don’t think I’m going to be getting quite as much ninjago going forward just for space reasons but the Destinys bounty is definitely something I will be getting as well as any of the ninjago modulars.
Now that the remade Eldorado Fortress is out, I really hope it does well enough to warrant a remake of the Caribbean Clipper
I've heard it hasn't been selling too well. I hope that changes. Perhaps many are like me- waiting for double VIP and/or a fantastic GWP to pick it up.
@@OurToyWorldI love classic pirates and I like the eldorado remake..I'm just not sure I love it in a 215 euro kinda way. It's a price point that makes me think long and hard.
The new viking village set I can pick up for €120 and that's a much lower psychological barrier for me. Even if I have zero connection to legi vikings!
@@piotr78it’s the same for me. I have a lot of classic pirates and EDF would go well with that but 215 is just a lot of money.
I remember when i got that comic. In the Store they had dozens of them at cheap price under 5,-€. And now they would be worth 700,-€ each
If only i had bought them all.
Objectively the imperial soldiers era from 1989-1991 is the best but I prefer the imperial guards era from 1992-1995 because of the imperial trading post, skull eye schooner and the fact that I grew up with the islanders from 1994
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Mayo. I’ll be talking about either the Imperial Guards and/or Islanders on the next episode of LEGO Pirates Retrospect (might have to split that episode into 2 parts) - should be dropping later this month!
@@OurToyWorld any chance you´re german?
I had the Eldorado fortress and the pirate island but all I wanted was the Lego City railway 😂
I think that i have even older torso [of imperial solider(it doesn't have a silver square in the middle)]
i still have the complete pirates set 1 collection
Awesome
i like pirates
#baseplate
👍. Dear LEGO please put shiny gold coins back in sets you cheap bastards 😆
And while they're at it, bring back baseplates! Thanks for watching Sidious
