Great video again man , these old 120s were untouched when it came to production , speed and reliability except the strained cummins engines used to go pop too often , I worked on one coal site with 3 of them loading backfill onto 15 777bs , moving 270000 yds/week in 60 hrs ... they were 10 years old then , awesome shovel
They defiantly could move the dirt. A very well designed and strong digging machine. Had a couple of them over here that used to double team load 777's. 30 seconds and a truck was full! Thanks
PAmining I sill believe an approach to True tv, children s channel, or Discovery Channel would be a wise move for you, as you most definitely have the right voice and knowledgeable to back up what you are displaying.
***** Well thank you, I appreciate it! I do take pride in my video work and thoroughly enjoy educating people about mining and heavy equipment. I would like to my have my own TV show someday, but I doubt it would be a topic that would go over well with a network.
keith atwood Haha, I have way to much to document here in PA let alone drive all the way down to Tennessee! But I would love to see the state sometime, especially Nashville. That third pedal you see would be the clam control. You would push forward using your toe to open the clam, and push backward using your heel to close the clam.
Thanks for the great vids. I'm a landscaper that uses very small equipment like a 3,000 to 5,000 pound excavator and a one ton dump, so I work on very small scale compared to this equipment. If I put lets say 4 to 5 yards of top soil on a one ton dump truck I'm loaded heavy. The O&K in this vid picks up to 23 yards in one scoop, if I'm not mistaken that is what tri-axle dump can legally haul on roads. This thing has dump truck on the front end! A few questions. What did this cost new back in 91? Could you give us an estimate or perspective of how much soil this machine moved in its life time? What will happen to this machine now that it is out of service. Thanks again.
William Krakoff This machine is retired from service and is no longer a full time production loading unit, which explains the rust. The two oil coolers are temperature regulated, which means when the oil reaches a certain temperature, a sensor kicks the fans on to cool the oil down. The fans are driven by two hydraulic motors.
lidsman22 , on your question about how much the fans can lower the hydraulic oil it has been my experience that an oil cooler can easily lower the temp 40-60 degrees depending on the size and flow rate of the oil, it probably could do even more if you have a bigger cooler
memyselfand ifarmer Thanks, I always try to make my videos interesting and educational! I wish I didn't forget to mention that in the video, but the far left foot pedal controls the bullclam functions.
Was that machine retired? The rust on the bucket and the tracks make it appear it hasn't been used for quite some time. It was a shame when O&K sold out to Terex.
***** No, she is retired from service and no longer services as a production loading unit. Yes, O&K shovels still exist today. Caterpillar acquired the O&K shovel line from Bucyrus International in 2011. Today, the current Cat 6030 is the descendant of the O&K RH120C/E

Love the video mate. Keep the big gear coming!
That´s another great video. I really like your documentaries about big equipment.
Amazing documentary as usaul keep up the good work
Very well documented thank you
+walgoal Glad you enjoyed it
7:57 Crack in the turbo? Look closely at the rusted/exhaust side of the turbo....
I think it's in the casting, the whole set is kinda rough but that's bad spot.
a really enjoyed this video thanks to u for giving your time to show us this
Glad you enjoyed it!

You do a great job on all the documentaries. Keep up the good work!
Lewie McNeely Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
Great commentary.. Love it..
Is this particular shovel still run as a production machine? Nice video!!
How many machines are typically used at these mines? Love the videos keep them coming!!
Occasion77 That all depends on the size of the job. The mine I work at has 28 trucks, 6 shovels, 4 drills and 3 production loaders
What is the third floor pedal for? When are you coming to Tennessee to document my NorthWest 25D?

it opens and closes the bucket
Well done.
Very well put together. You do your research and know what you are talking about. Does the old girl still earn its keep?
Derf M Thank you! No she's retired from service
That nice and big! Still in use?
JHaggis No unfortunately this old girl is retired.
You sound so happy. Plus this is a great video
blackwolfofkilmore I live for this stuff lol
Which was more effective? The electric version or the diesel version?
you talk about doing a tv show I would watch it my favorite show is modern marvels I always enjoied the episodes when the showed mining equipment

Thanks for the video. I always enjoy them a lot. I was wondering 2 things. First why is that machine so rusted and how does the oil cooler work?

Any vintage stuff coming up? Would love to see a Unit crane up on your channel! ☺️
UnitCrane514 Yes, I have long list of vintage cable shovels and other old iron coming up! I have only come across one small Unit 614 in the past.
nice vid, what did the left foot pedal do? also i liked the "bucket fill factor" mention. keep them coming.
memyselfand ifarmer Thanks, I always try to make my videos interesting and educational! I wish I didn't forget to mention that in the video, but the far left foot pedal controls the bullclam functions.
PAmining opens and closes the visor.
great video
She sure is a beast... Is it still active or retired? thanks as always for putting up the GREAT video.
scpd613 She's retired. Thank you for enjoying it!
Is this one retired? Or a spare?
Is the machine still being used?
No, this shovel was scrapped many years ago
I bet this thing sounded like diesel heaven when it ran
Was that machine retired? The rust on the bucket and the tracks make it appear it hasn't been used for quite some time. It was a shame when O&K sold out to Terex.
man thats nice. does she still run?. do they still make those front load excavators like from CAT i dont think o&k r even still out there.

PAmining o ok thanks 4 the info. :)
Is this Lehigh's old machine Justin?
robBMX2541 No
Can that thing be driven around with only one engine running? Sure wouldn't try to dig with only one engine
sad to see such awesome and capable machines just sit
So sad to see these machines dont work any more...
Most of these have been cut up now
when i was a 13 year old kid i played with an O&K RH 4 long time ago
