    The US Navy has been playing the aircraft carrier game for a hundred years. They have learned a few things from the wars fought and ships lost. The PLA-N stole as much design detail as they could but many things have to be learned from bitter experience. The Fujian is an expensive learning exercise. The only question is whether the rapidly collapsing Chinese economy and shaky internal political situation will allow the program to continue.

      To extend that thought, this isn’t a football match. When China looses in the first season, they’re not going to have an off season to regroup and draft picks to improve their squad. If China starts something, the CCP will be dismantled and China will be rebuilt under a care taker government.

      The Chinese economic situation is dire and there is no realistic solution in the short term. The Chinese have no job, their house prices are under water, banks don't even distribute real money [weird!] and people don't have the means to have children. They are heading for a catastrophe of a size this planet has not seen before.
      Toys like aircraft carriers are expensive when you know what you're doing with that. The Chinese are just inventing how this thing is supposed to work. On top of that there's systemic corruption which is hugely detrimental to the effort.
      They're not going to make it. This Fujian thing isn't going to be a threat to anyone.

    One of the bigger prompt mentioned is that the power plants on the 003 aren’t able to power the electro-magnetic catapult. So, Fujian has to stay in port or have a floating power plant accompany it everywhere. Imagine the first phase of direct combat. Destroy or disable the power plant ship. It’ll be a sitting duck.

      They seem to require a lot of diesel, and I don't think energy output of a diesel engine can match the US's nuclear powered ones. They might have to increase the size of the diesel engine to get it up to par, but that'd require even MORE fuel, which would be even more expensive for an ecenomy like theirs.

This is only their third carrier, and while it might be a disappointment it is showing an ability to learn. One way to tell that this is all for show: count how many replenishment oilers China has in comparison to the US. Yeah they're building large numbers of combat ships, but no oilers, and unless few of them are intended to sail more than a few hundred miles from shore, China only has 13 functional replenishment oilers, and only two of them are fast enough to keep up with their carriers. This is a bigger deal for China than it is for the US because none of China's carriers are nuclear.

      @orlock20 in the CCPs rush to build up their navy, they skimped on mass. For example...US Navy ships are double-hulled, CCP-built ships are *not* (proven by a filipino ship, accidentally punching through the single-hull). This allows for quicker build-times. Double-hull ships provide increased safety (if you breach, you won't sink), increased stability (increased control and performance...the extra buoyancy provided by the double-hull further increases stability). To see an example of this, compare the turning radius of a US Naval Carrier vs a CCP Naval Carrier, the CCP can't make those tight turns because they would tip over if they attempted it. The CCP carrier is forced to make large, sweeping turns in comparison. None of this reflects fighting capabilities, this is only to show how accepting the CCP is at finding shortcuts...and that's not how to win a war IMO

    The first 3 chinese carriers are likely to be glorified props to practice on. The nest one might get beyond that. Given the state of their economy they should just drop the super carrier attempt, build drone carriers and more destroyers. At least that is if they are going seriously going after the entire 9 dash line and taiwan stuff. If they fight the U.S. in a way the U.S. created? They will get wrecked

    OMFG every single thing they have is a knockoff, isn't it? From abover, the aircraft carriers are like, come ON! That's such a blatant copy🤣. Same with the planes - cheapish knockoffs!
    At least they HAVE an aircraft carrier. Look at Russia - they sent their carrier sailors to be stormtroopers on the front lines, because the "carrier" required tugboats at all times, and now their tugboats need tugboats. So, at least the Chinese carrier could beat the Russian carrier.
    IDK about subs, though. China's best sub sank in a river? And the navy was so embarrassed, they pretended like nothing happened? Yikes. If the Russian sub force isn't better than THAT, then Jesus... that would be a rough spot to be in.

    There are two different aircraft carriers in this film. One is a jump carrier with a deck that angles upward at the end. This is to help aircraft get into the air without a catapult. This method of takeoff limits the range and carrying ability of an aircraft. That is the advantage of an aircraft carrier with a catapult. The catapult, if it works, it’s the aircraft into the air with more fuel and ordinance. Even then, it’s necessary to refuel the aircraft after takeoff to give them the maximum range possible.

  • @protorhinocerator142

    Even if they had the money, and they had the fuel, and they had the carrier battle groups to support these carriers, and they had the need for building carrier fleets, and they had the foreign bases to supply the fleets, China has no experience at all operating aircraft carriers in war.
    The US Navy has millions of man-hours of experience performing high-tempo carrier operations in war.
    For China to get any relevant experience they would need a few years at war with someone. They will be stopped before they can acquire any relevant experience.
    There is no point to China operating aircraft carriers. They saw that the US Navy had some big shiny toys and they decided they want some too.
    They won't be able to do anything with them.

    Although US carriers theoretically can lunch and recover aircraft at the same time it is very rare to do so. The except is aircraft carrier qualification when the deck has few aircraft on board. The reason is the aircraft deck movement would cause interference between the two operations with aircraft parked on deck. The problems the Chinese are having indicate they don't have the experience with many systems to make the ship work. The US Navy has been working for over 100 years to develop operations on it's carriers. It is a constant process of the older hands teaching the next generation. Having 20 personal on the flight deck to train the crew will require years to develop the experience needed for one carrier. It is a very fine dance to handle 50 aircraft on the deck.

    • @00calvinlee00
      @00calvinlee00 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually depending on what's going on and the cycle, you will often have the first cycle returning to land while the second launch is in progress. TH-cam has several videos where you can see this as the standard. This wasn't done as much on older Forrestal Class CVs because they had the forward left lift at the edge of the angled deck/landing area. Some ships also operate faster or slower than others. China's issue in Flight Operations is there are several secrets and unknown aspects that aren't mentioned in TV documentaries or on TH-cam. Standing beside the runway at a training field with three Hornet pilots a few years back during a period of "reaching out", I asked if we were sharing info with the PLANAF. "No, thankfully we aren't that bad,"said one Hornet pilot with a laugh. Brazil taught the Chinese the basics after the US Navy taught Brazil. (Oops!).

    Carriers rely on radar systems for navigation, air traffic control, and defense. They also use extensive communication systems to coordinate with aircraft and other ships. A smaller radar signature can make it more difficult for enemy missiles and aircraft to lock onto _a section_ of the carrier by complicating targeting solutions, but not to an extent that would ever be relevant.

  • @markpukey8
    @markpukey8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Remember that an aircraft carrier may well be the most complex piece of equipment humans have ever built. Even more than our space ships. After all, the rockets are only now becoming re-usable, and after every single mission, any re-used component is completely torn apart for inspection and repair before being reused. An aircraft carrier goes to sea for months or years at a time, and all repairs have to be done while it is underway. Dry dock is uncommon for these ships.
    So if China is copying the US here... it's still going to take quite a while for them to figure out the little details that make the US Navy so durable and dangerous at sea.
