Rescue off Mahon Pool, Maroubra - 17th August 2019

A successful rescue using an ANA NSW Angel Ring at Mahon Pool North Maroubra on 17th August 2019. Locals, Klayton Thorn and Bellamy Brown, both aged 16, were on their way to have a quick dip at Mahon Pool when they heard cries for help coming from the ocean nearby. Bystanders gathered and watched a person struggle in the water. Local knowledge and surf life saving experience kicked in where Klayton climbed the rocks and removed the Angel Ring, walked carefully across the rocks watching the swell, then deployed the ring perfectly towards the person, he then told the person what to do, coaching them to hold on and kick with his legs back towards him. The sloppy conditions slowly assisted the person closer to the rocks where Klayton safely grabbed hold of the ring and with some assistance, helped the person back onto the rocks. This particular Angel Ring was stolen three weeks prior and replaced by South Sydney AFA fisher when it was reported missing.
