It’s crazy that just a few years ago you could pick up a SARB for $300. Seiko would be smart to reintroduce this line with a better bracelet and just charge $800-900.
I remember watching TGV rave about the Sarb years ago. I held off on buying until I heard they were discontinued. I purchased the 033 and 035 on the same day for $330 new. Many watches have come and gone in my collection but these two along with the skx009 are definite keepers.
Perhaps on eof my favourites. But I couldn't believe in what I've seen in the video - the bracelet! To refresh my love to this watch, I've spent weeks looking for an aftermarket bracelt. Uncle's continental seemed nice, but I lacked any videos or better quality photos... Had I watched this video before I would have saved long hours staring at them! And I write this as a happy owner of the continental for the last week or so! Truly great and comfortable pick! I didn't know about the crystal mod, might try it out though! But I will definitely not change the hands. The original handset is not only about the lume - there are also these thin black lines running through the middle of hour and minute hand that make them look super crisp, precise and unique! And the diamond shape ending of the seconds hand - to me it sums the watch up in such a nice way that I love staring at it. Great watch, great mods, great review. Cheers!
What drew me to SARB033 was the lume scheme, which looks like a little watch inside of a bigger watch. It's also very comfortable and easily wearable, plus it's pretty durable. Used to be my most worn watch (I used to more often changed the date because the month had less than 31 days than I did because the watch stopped) until Casio G-Shock DW-5600E took that place.
The SARB033/035 are beautiful watches and as I see, the case shape are mainly the same as the Alpinist and very-very close to the no compass SPB15X. Yes there are some little difference (SARB's has a little levelling on the lugs, the Alpinist has a bewelling there) but the main shapes, the lug curvature, the dimensions, the case side rounding, everything seems the same. I think if Seiko would like to do, then they easily can resurrect the SARB033/035. For double the MSRP of the original ones of course...
You can apply lume on back of arms and enjoy great look of reflection over dial. Be sure that it will be charged easily despite lack of direct expose to sun light. I have seen same on some vintage watches....
Yes. Classic look, 50’s to early 70’s drees watches. Love that period! In my collection -I own 6 pieces, produced between 1963 to 1974. My favorites are the 1963 Seikomatic self-dater, seconds hands slides smoother than a baby’s a**! Another 2 King Seiko’s, and a 1974 GP.
I bought and rebought the Sarb035, three times. Hard to find a cream dial and 38mm size similar to this. My main gripes were the no ar coating, chapter ring and the gap between the endlink and next link. Had to upgrade to GS to forget it. Can't forget it still.
i definitely will upgrade to AR coated crystal on my sarb033. Loving the watch but the reflection really does mask the beauty of the watch significantly
Seiko need to hire you for designer man, so beautiful, and I never realize how I want long second hand that hit the marker in a dressier watches till seeing this
What many don’t know: there’s a reference SCVS003 (JDM) which is the predecessor of the SARB033 and actually comes with the same bracelet you have on yours.
Yes,but for this Sarb35 is actually better option Seiko PreSarb Spirit Scvs001...Its the same champagna beige dial, same rice bracelet, different dots on dial-look bigger then he look smaller when look.. 😊😄
Amazing video brother! Can you please make a video about how you polished your sarb? Mines have some scratches id lovee to disappear on both the polished and the brushed surfaces
I got the same bracelet from uncle seiko and I wonder why no one has ever done a review of it. It wears so comfortable and reminds to an older seiko model in which the sarb took inspiration from. I loved your mods, and specially enjoyed knowing the 6r15 movement can be regulated easily. I am planning on getting a NH35/6 to replace it but just because I think it might be cheaper
You would have to attach the dial feet holders on the NH35. Or you wont be able to put the dial on and hold it in place on the NH35. I'm sure its possible but I never tried it. It should have the proper holes. Also the 6r15 pinion is shorter by a hair. 0.3mm So the hands may sit higher. Clearance may be an issue. But if you switch to a double dome sapphire, that will remove that issue. If it is even an issue. I haven't tried.
I just bought a mint SCVS003 for 280 usd, the precursor to the SARB basically the same watch but it came with this same bracelet, OEM from Seiko, way better than the one in the SARB033, don't know why they change it. Plus the SCVS003 come with AR and lume on the outside edge not on the inside, to me its better in any way but an underrated watch.
Beautiful watch man, it looks really good. Only one word of caution for anyone thinking about doing this… you’ve got what $1000 in that watch now? I hope you really love it, because if you ever try to sell it you’re never going to get that back out of it. You basically just built a sarx035 for more than you could have bought one for new.

That may have been the best option to mod the date disk. A blued second hand might have been a nice small pop of color. That's funny yours went from black to white. I had a watchmaker change mine from white to black. I regret it... but mostly because I realize after I do not have any white face watches now. I guess that can be remedied however!
Great upgrades. I have the SARB035 as well. I have often considered replacing the caseback (like you did with the SNXS77) to slightly reduce the thickness of the watch and make it hug the wrist even better. Have any of you heard of being able to get a solid caseback for the SARB033/035?
Actually the case back on the sarb is extremely tight already. So tight that aftermarket rotors will not fit if they add decoration. So even if you replace it I don't think it will be any thinner at most 0.3mm
I had one chance of getting one from Amazon 2 year ago when the last ones appeared for a really good price. Unfortunately I did not get one. Shame on me.
Those are some cool mods on a classic watch. I especially like the blue seconds hand. I don't think I could go without lume on the main hands though. It's too bad Seiko did a way with a good thing. It would have been cool if they had upgraded them with the 6R35 and a sapphire crystal with AR. The SZSB011, 12, 13, etc. are really cut rate SARBs. It's probably the closest in design to the old ones, but a 4R movement, hardlex, and no lume kill it for me. They are occasionally on Amazon for very good deals, but I can't believe they have them down as a $550 MSRP watch. It's just unreal. They are apparently in the Essentials line, so that would explain the lower specs. They're missing out on having updated models in the Presage line though.
Yeah it is slimmer by 0.3mm so something is different. Hope it fixes the 6R35 wild isochronism and positional variance issues. My new king seiko after 1 month started to show 180 amplitude in the 12 down position. Something wrong with it probably
May I ask how much you spent on the service? Mine is running -20s/pd, so I haven't worn it as much as I'd like to. Wondering if it just needs a service or replacement of the movement. Thanks in advance.
Please tell me from which presage model you got the hands, I might do the same mod! I might even get the bracelet, did Uncle Seiko gave you a discount code for such a great publicity? By the way, according to The Watcher you can remove the dial feet screws from the 6R and put them into an NH, you just need to push really hard on them to make them fall. I was considering doing that since mine has a huge positional variance, but I might consider servicing seeing how well yours run after.
that is great info! someone above or below asked about swapping in a nh35 for his sarb. I did not know if the dial feet holders could be screwed in or pressed in. There is also a slight height difference in the pinon 6r is shorter by a hair. shouldn't be an issue tho but I have no idea never tried
Love your review and mods. I have both the 033 and 035. Both of mine are losing 20-30 seconds per day. Do you have a local watchmaker or do you ship it somewhere for service? I live in an area that doesn't have any watchmakers, and I'd like to have my SARBs serviced. Is there a watchmaker you recommend for Seiko service? BTW, I have a mini Turtle and the 4R in it runs about a second or two a day fast; a real set it and forget it watch for the most part. Thanks.
I have a watchmaker 40min drive from my place. In Ontario, Canada. I suggest doing a search for a seiko service center in your region and mail it to them.
there are other models like sarx that use the srpe43 handset but I just dont remember them off the top of my head. but that one is half brushed half high polished like the ones in the video
I got into the hobby in 2019 so I missed the good 'ol days of Seiko but that being said I have the ISL-37 and I prefer it. Same look, screw down crown, better movement, bracelet and thinner.
I always wanted this watch but missed the chance to buy it at a reasonable price. Turns out I don't really like Dauphin hands as they are too dressy for me. Nice pick up!
I own this beauty and it has the amazing 6R15D, which is running really good and for the love of god, i cannot understand how Seikos is litererally making worse watches for 3 times the price right now.... THIS is a signed crown, its looks bettern than on a lot of 4k watches, the case shape looks like its a entry Grand Seiko and it cost me less than 450€ in 2017...
My Sarb033 mod is that I mirror-polished the lugs. It looks great with a leather strap. I prefer brushed metal on my kitchen faucets not on my jewelry.
very nice video...if you were to recreate it, what improvements would you do? Should the dial be whiter? Applied logo and indices more silvery? Lumed hands of course? What else? The Uncle Straps bracelet is so nice--perfect.
What's so good about the SARB other than the movement? I have the cream version and it looks like every other Seiko 5 that takes styling cues from the Oyster Perpetual. The bracelet on the SARB has an unsightly gap between the end link and bracelet. The Presage Cocktail Time, on the other hand, is mouth wateringly beautiful with unique styling. It looks way more expensive than what it is and I haven't worn my SARB since purchasing it.
Seiko was a lot more interesting when they were an under-appreciated and cult brand outside of Japan, at an attractive price point. I appreciate Grand Seikos, but for the prices they're asking now, I'd rather have something Swiss or German.
I'm a long time Seiko fan, and in my opinion the SARB has always been *incredibly* overrated. It's basically Seiko's 556, a pretty average watch that people go nuts over because everyone else says they should. The bracelet is garbage, the finishing is eh, the markers are not that nice looking. I really don't get it. People are asking stupid money for these now, the kind of money that could buy you a SARX055/57, which are *worlds* better watches than the SARB ever was.
Yes the common argument against the sarb is the sarx055 it's really too bad that it's a 41 mm and wears much larger due to its all dial look it does not have the charm the sarb does
As an owner of both the SARB033 and Sinn 556i, I couldn’t disagree more. Both watches have a certain X-factor to them, you just feel it when you’re wearing them on wrist.

Seiko absolutely nailed the dimensions on the SARB035, the 38 mm diameter, the 20 mm lug width and a clean vintage inspired dial. Pure perfection.

Nothing like Seiko SARX055
It is nice but at 41 mm it lacks the charm of the 38 mm sarbie
I own this beauty and it has the amazing 6R15D, which is running really good and for the love of god, i cannot understand how Seikos is litererally making worse watches for 3 times the price right now....
THIS is a signed crown, its looks bettern than on a lot of 4k watches, the case shape looks like its a entry Grand Seiko and it cost me less than 450€ in 2017...
is the strap from Universal ?
Uncle Seiko.
Could you please post the links of the mod parts?
*shrug* I'd prefer the SARX55 and the one with the black dial, SARX053.
at 41mm I think it is missing that charm the sarb has
@@EscapementWatch true, but I prefer the feeling of exclusivity. 😛
While others ramble on about their SARBs, I'm wearing my SARX. 😎
I think a nicely domed crystal would have looked amazing in my opinion.
Seiko sdgm001 and sdgm003 are the hidden gems out there, the Sarb look but sapphire, better bracelet and amazing ar
You don't need to say "if you're still here"
It was always like that. Lord Matics make the SARBs look like cheap toys.
Vintage Seikos are PEAK!
Great watch. But I don't think its worth paying an average $600 USD for this watch. You can get better watches for little more.
Right. They were great when they were ~&300. Not worth what they are selling for now.
Design is harder from time to time, they cannot do the exact same one otherwise it would be boring.
Before they we’re trying to prove something; now they’re just trying to sell something

Not only Seiko. I'm tired of oversized dials, monster thick movements, and sickening hype from all the major watch brands.
Am I crazy or does this look boring and regular ? which is usually my style but this is too bland.
Yes you are crazy. That is correct!
Islander brookville. The new sarb
actually the new sarb is the citizen NB
