Hi Harry, can't wait to see those mushrooms growing. We did not do well on the morrels this year, never found a single one but we didn't look that hard since we were so busy with other projects.
It's also known as hop hornbeam. It is the highest btu wood we have In Wisconsin, very hard. It a weed tree that the state wants removed as well. Thanks for watching.
So Harry, the best time to get the logs is in the winter. However, we just had a tornado in Tomah so there's plenty of oak. Am I wasting my time if I use it or is it a 50/50 or what?
I can only tell you what the guid says. Cut the tree in its dormant phase. Then leave it sit for two weeks before plugging the logs. We had the same bad storm here in wautoma. You can always cut firewood?
