Thanks for the heads up. I agree, people should buy a safe to last a lifetime.

My grandfather was a post master 1928-1965. He had a small safe in his office, about two cubic feet. It was manufactured in 1853 and is a four turn combination lock with a second keyed lock for the inner door. so you need both the combination and a key to get inside. when he retired the post office dept. decided to upgrade to a larger safe so they had the new post master throw away the old safe. My grandfather volunteered to dispose of it. When he died my father got it and when he died my mom got it and when she died I got it. My safe is 167 years old and inside, other than some wear to the paint, it looks brand new. Outside there is more wear but likewise it is in very good condition. mostly the fancy scroll work painted on the front has worn down to the bare metal in places. The safe weighs a ton, literally. The tumblers roll as smoothly as the day it was manufactured. The handle for the lock opens right up. The bolts slide into place as though they were brand new. The only thing I have ever had to do was oil the tumblers every few years and recently I repainted the front where the paint has worn away. I came here because I am looking for a second safe for extra storage. So it seems from what I have seen of some of the videos about safes is that American safe manufacturing has deteriorated back to the stone age. One would think that with technology they would be making 500 year safes not 8 year safes. So... After this I've decided to go buy an antique safe and pay less money and get more safe. Amazon wants $200 for this safe and another $16 for the warranty.

Agree! Have the same safe and it won’t open with the combination. I’ve followed the instructions and store important items in this safe that just decided to stop working. They’re total crap for the money!

Can you post any other videos where someone has attempted to disassemble the locking mechanism and put back together.

In my case, the lever doesn't lock all the way as well. I'm curious if you were able to tinker with the locking mechanism to see if there are some easy fixes?

    But, is it fixable?

Unfortunately, this lack of quality is rampant in the world. Welcome to the new age. Build it overseas as cheaply as possible

It sounds like first alert is crap and they’re okay with selling crap.

Hi so unfornately something of this nature happend to me with a different safe from first alert and currently have all my stuff trapped inside.. Any pointers on how to get it open if it locked prior?

skylar martell I’ve seen a few articles and videos showing the locks are pretty bad on these safes. Depending on which model it is you can use as little as a screwdriver, paper clip, and tweezers. I would just google the model and see if there are any videos on getting into that specific one.

Why is there rust around the screws? Something is not right here.
