Subaru sells the type RA shortblock for like 2k straight from the dealer, pick one of those up or order one online! Don’t put that open deck block in, its 100% gonna blow if you intend on doing anything to it

An STI 6 speed will not work in a BRZ. AWD for one, and the way the shifter mounts is completely different. On top of that I'm sure there's a lot more that wont work.

Devin, you should invest in a one piece 10mm allen socket. Those two pieces always snap. Using a dab of grinding compound will also aid in preventing the allen from slipping in the bolt.
Devin the best luck ive had on the cam gears is cutting a little bit off of the end of the socket. making it just barely long enough to fit inside of the bolt. it makes it next to impossible for it to break. your SK one broke because the shank was too long. hope this helps in the future boss! (i cut about 1/4" off the length of my allen socket)
Good game plan with the 2.0! The previous owner sure was a scammer probably ground down the engine S/N's not only to conceal that it wasn't a EJ257 but probably a stolen block. Well since you don't really care what happens to this 2.0 maybe try porting the heads yourself for a little extra power.
I pulled my running long block motor out of my car for a race motor and it’s sitting at the No limit Motorsport in NY. hit them up is you want one. I know them have at least one other running long block sitting there for sale.
Ouch, sorry bro. Find used 257 short block, rod knocked are often available, machine shop, and full build it. Thats what I did, sitting on solid 500WHP, she is a beast. Good luck
Should build a destroked EJ257 to 2.35l or close deck the 2.0l because 2l are stupid reliable and make great power and take tons of boost. plus if you destoke you can have a more balanced engine and rev to like 9k. Both are amazing.
put the 2.5 back in the sti, cant rush perfection. it might be worth the wait in the long run you know?.. i but up to you, i love watching subies get worked on regardless

Don't knock the autozone/orieleys tool brands. it clearly did the job that the SK tools socket COULDNT. let that be an example for EVERY viewer out there. it costs Vatozone and Brorieleys ALOT of money when they sell shotty tools. their quality has come a long way. and if anyone is old enough to remember the OLD Schucks brand sockets they were BEEFY. (discontinued)
devin you need to get some RBRT Socket . Mac tool sell them. they are life saver . For taking out allen head and torx head nuts. i use them every single day at my shop. i am have impact rated for so i always put them on power tool.
Lol everybody I know just default EZ-Outs the cam gear bolts off. If Subaru 300lb gorillas installed them, there's no chance they're coming off with a 10mm allen. Just assume you'll trash the bolt and replace it no matter what.

When a bolt or whatever is stupid tight , after penetration lube m heating it I’ll go loose, tight , loose , tight and work it loose that way. Way less likely to snap if you run it back n fourth initially 🤘🏻💪🏻

This man is 100% correct you can make 450-500 awhp on a Type RA block and it’ll hold pretty well on E85
701 is the casting number. 706 is the current revision of block casings so that thing is oldddd

You need a wrecked STi, grab the 6 spd for the BRZ, the 257 for the GRB
Def the way to go, and usually iaai or copart always has an STI up near OR/WA. Do that Devin, also = good content!

Old timing belt wrapped around just the cam gear you want to remove and an idler pulley etc while being vice gripped in place works a treat. 👍

After heating up try spraying a little water to cool it down. Expansion followed by contraction should loosen the bolt easier.

Just buy a cd009 and do a swap. Unless you have the frs trans built it’s just gonna break again with that much power. They’re pretty fragile.
