Jackie pancakes in the bowl for about 4 minutes, Shadow - for about a minute.
Will all this nesting activity result in another clutch? Stay tuned and find out! Another clutch would be quite uncommon given the circumstances (the first clutch was incubated full time). However, Jackie and Shadow rarely play by the book.
Watch out for more nesting activity in the coming days: sticks and fluff, balled up talons (curled Hallux talon), mating, pancaking in the bowl (the longer the better!).
Jackie tends to sit in the bowl (aka. pancake) for long periods of time right before egg-laying. This helps her to shape the nesting substrate just right and prepare for eggs.
Jackie and Shadow's first undeveloped clutch was scavenged by Ravens on 3/7.

oohhh handsome Shadow! Even if we don't get a clutch I am happy to be seeing these two rascals! They have the best personalities and are hilarious! It is like a little soap opera. Will Shadow bring a stick this flight into the nest? Will Jackie move it? Is the fluff and stuff Jackie specified or does Shadow need to go get some greenery or another pine cone? The eagle mom in Centerport, NY, just laid her 1st egg. Second, if there is one, expected on Monday. She's a three egg layer, so, it remains to be seen.
Plus, the dad is D3, after D4 and D5 pretty much chased him off, prior. Some who have watched that nest for years said the season was over. So, the eagles are still surprising us! 😘
That's what makes it even more fun and interesting.
Who knows, Gabby might just wind up with V2? 😻

It is looking very encouraging but I think we dare not get our hopes up too high. Jackie sure seemed to enjoy laying in the bowl and then Shadow had to try it out, too, just to make sure all of those sticks were in their proper places. What a lovely day for them to be enjoying each other's company and the view of the lake and the mountains. Thank you for another happy time in the nest, Cali.

A 2nd clutch is mostly all about hormones. They were more than halfway through the incubation stage, so reactivating the hormones required for laying may be too difficult. But who knows, because they are certainly exhibiting a strong nesting interest.

Fascinating behavior! Regardless of the outcome, I am happy to see more of these amazing eagles. It truly is a cliffhanger at this point in time. Thanks for providing the information in the description. I am wondering if they do have another clutch, whether this nesting period may be accelerated a bit than we are used to seeing. Even if eggs are to come at some point, it just seems that with the first clutch we saw this behavior at least a month before Jackie laid her first egg, and I just wonder if that time period perhaps could be reduced with a 2nd clutch. I guess it all just remains to be seen! Stay tuned!!

Jackie seems to like the nest. I am hoping that Jackie will lay a clutch of eggs. Shadow has to check the nest out too. Looks like there is a 'double' eagle talon of approvement for laying in the nest.

What happened to that stick on the front porch?
I’m so happy that it fell maybe. I saw that and it looked like a fishing pole to me at first. Then I saw, Shadow brought that stick in and it got stuck there. I’m glad it’s gone. I was worried. But then again this is nature and I shouldn’t be worrying to much as they know best. But it was an accident waiting to happen. It was on their perching ledge on the front porch.
It was knocked down by Jackie on one of her flights out of the nest I believe. I don't have the time stamp but it was discussed by the mods in chat today.

Cali, thank you for supporting our wonderful eagles in BBV. I have a question, how long after mating will the female eagle lay eggs. I suppose mating isn't always about producing eggs, but if it was, I'm curious. Thanks
Eggs are laid when the female is fertile. The timing has little to do with mating (copulation), which is needed for fertilization. Hens can lay unfertilized eggs even without male present.
If Jackie ovulates, the egg will be laid about 48 hours later.
