- Looks like the commotion was all about fish delivered by Shadow🐠
Eagles are scavengers and kleptoparasites, meaning that they often attempts to steal food from other animals. Looks like those two eagles had some interesting ideas about Shadow's fish 🙃
Shadow landed on branches below the nest while Jackie went in full defensive mode. Together, they told the intruders to better watch their steps and flight patterns.
While in danger, chicks often hunker down and lay flat in the bowl. As soon as commotion was over, Chick1 perked up and attempted to investigate what it was all about.
Chick1 hatched 3/3 16:14.
The remaining egg is over 45 days old. Unfortunately, it is not expected to hatch at this point.

Oh my! Don’t mess with that Mama. She was so angry. Shadow the circling protector and provider. Little chick pops up at the end looking around to see if it’s all over. Pretty amazing to see this eagle drama.
Loved looking back at this and seeing how vocal Spirit already was at 9 days old! Darling family.

Wow ! Always be on guard ! Very stressful ,that’s nature , and that’s the wild. Jackie was so upset ,I worried about her stepping on the baby (as she was so perturbed) thank God all is well - Shadow sure protected his family ! It was a kind of tense situation. Anyhow Jackie and Shadow handled it properly. Then it was funny to watch chick's defensive mode. Little one is like 'who was that, let me see and fight them' 😀. It was adorable 😘🥰

Sure glad I didn't have earbuds in that time! Jackie was in her most protective mode, letting the world know to stay away from her nest. I panicked when she stepped on the chick but it seems to be just fine. That was some great teamwork, glad all is well. I hope it was just a matter of the other eagles trying to steal Shadow's fish and not a threat to their territory. Thanks for a great video, Cali.

I had no idea bald eagles pursued each other. How dangerous daily life is for Jackie, Shadow and their baby. Please God, protect our wonderful family. Keep them safe.
I know! I get so scared for them.
Not only do they pursue each other for fish but they can have hours long battles over territory and mates. Sometimes they will lock talons causing them to fall to the ground. I have seen one such battle at this nest a couple years ago.

Doesn’t matter Boy or Girl, each & every one of Jackie & Shadows young-ins are going to grow up to be very smart , strong welled, & determined to live their lives out in the wild where at any moment something like this could happen & not all survive if you don’t have the spot on instinct & smarts to know what to do! And they have excellent team work! And I hope that they to will find a partner just like their parents have found! And we all will be here rooting them on, wherever they may be! 😁

I am enjoying these older videos as I am still so sad about Jackie and Shadow’s eggs not able to be born in 2024. To see they the lovely couple have had babies in the past makes my heart happy that they will try again. So much danger for everyone in this world. 😘💕🦅🐣🦅💕

Jackie was alert and prepared to sound the alarm. Shadow was also alert and in protective mode. It was intense. Jackie and Shadow are amazing. The chick was so cute when he stuck his head up to investigate. Thank you Cali.

Ohhhh my goodness! 😳My heart jumped our of my chest watching J stand up quickly and seemingly step with her claws on the eaglet. I heard a crack, saw the baby was not moving and I feared the worst. 😭 Luckily later vid feed shows the baby is just fine 🥲 Now I wonder if the 2nd egg was broken? Such relief to see our 🦅 family is safe. ❤️❤️❤️

Cali Condor is saying the 2nd egg is ova 45 days since bein laid.It prob won't hatch unfortunately.Im bumming bout that but at least they have their Lil eaglet.Ihope this helps u.

I'm worried about the other egg. It sure is taking a long time to pip. They were laid only 3days apart. The first one was out on the 3rd -4th of March that's 8 days ago.

I hope they don't have to encounter a territorial dispute while they're raising little Egbert! They have tried so hard! They deserve to see their baby fledge! ❤🦅❤
My hope is Shadow perhaps encroached on territory they are trying to claim and thought he was a lone eagle so chased him a great distance, now that they have encountered Jackie and Shadow's nest they will know that territory is claimed and everyone can just stay out of each other's way.

This is strategically difficult if you think about it. Since either Jackie or Shadow must stay on the nest at all costs to protect the chick, it means the other one can be doubled teamed if a fight breaks out. Hopefully they lay off now they know this territory is claimed by another couple.
That was epic. All the squirrels in the surround trees were like 👀 Cool to see that eagles are born heroic lol The little one was ready to put up a fight! This stream makes me feel so proud to be an American 😂 Coolest bird EVER!

My two cats were very concerned about the sounds so I muted and stopped the video. I hope things worked out. I was having internet and computer issues for the past 2 hours, so I had to shut down.

Very exciting. Don't want to see this too often. Shadow and Jackie are definitely defenders of the home front and I hope those other "kleptoparasites" now know what's in store for them. And, baby keep your head down.

The bald eagles here fly and hunt together even when not raising young. I have a pair in my neighborhood that are always seen together no matter what time of year. Heck I've even seen them breaking bread with sub adults. (Possibly their okder youngsters?) Super neat to watch these guys. They steal bunnies from the vultures all the time...once there was 100+ vultures with one bunny. .here comes BEagle and he took bunny away and acted like no big deal.

While Jackie was really mad she went on for a minute there even after there was no alert she still kept going.

Super smart shadow stayed on the branch below n case they were brave/bold enough to follow him to the end. That way he wouldn't bring 2 eagles to the actual nest. He may have stole their fish....this is what eagles do, and the strong survive. Especially out here where it's really not ideal location for eagles or anything for that matter. Reminds me of "the land before time" one source of water....little to no rain.

This was awesome! The recognizance was amazing. I rewound it 3 times I didn't notice Shadow being on that lower branch. I thought he flew in and left again. Jackie is so vocal I wonder why he allowed her to be frightened. Could he have done that to keep them from seeing where his wife and kid were?
She was really quite hysterical for a full 15 minutes. And seemed to be bitching at him for the rest. That baby so adorable but really kind of advanced. @21:20 he looks like he's asking if they "are getting a divorce and will that mean TWO CHRISTMASSES?"
Since I am still learning can you tell me do other eagles kill each others young or are they just out looking for a female?

Shadow wS their defending calling out as well. Females are larger for a reason. Jackie can easily defend the nest by herself. I have seen Shadow defend as well. Thos is how they defend their nest and territory as well as offspring. They are a team that's why Shadow went to the nest to defend. Sudadult eagles try to steal food from other eagles. They do no want to eat Shadow they are looking for food. ❤

I first got addicted to the smaller birds that build their nests in garage lights etc but then came across these very complex eagles and e19 and e20 and that was it! Years ago I had been watching a live cam and 2 of the 3 chicks fell out
Luckily they had a location so I traced down the ranger and he didn't believe me. I was so upset. But it showed him. On the cam putting them back in. They had fallen into some moss only a couple feet down. But the "Cup" was shallow. He thought that's what happened but before he was even up there a minute the third chick was a horrible bully and right in front of the ranger snapped it by the leg and tossed it again! The ranger turned and looked at the camera with an ok and took the two smaller ones to be hand raised. It was breathtaking. I never kept up with them. It was in Canada.
