    I stand corrected we are using Heggerty for Phonemic awareness and Phonics. Apparently you can get both and my school got us both together. Today was my first day teaching it and so far I am a fan. For your sound wall I can't remember if you said you made your own sound cards or you used what they gave? The Heggerty ones seem small.

    Susan Jones,
    1st, I hope that you had an awesome Thanksgiving.
    2nd, Way to go on the visuals because that would be more of what I needed most back when I was an autistic school student.
    3rd, Yes, Please do a video on classroom management. Do you have a safe spot in your classroom? What do you do for students that maybe not motivated?
    4th, I do knd of like your accent and you look nice in your outfits.

    How do you introduce your heart words? We take steps from Orton Gillingham and have them sky write, tap on the arm, and then write on their page 3 times. We have them write it a 4th time with their eyes closed and they get a kick out of that. I agree about Heggerty's focus in weekly lessons. We've been picking 2-3 skills and focusing on them instead of all the different skills they have in the daily lesson.

    Hi Susan! Once again, I really look forward to these weekend videos! Even though I teach 2nd, there is always something I can take away from them. It's like a mini PD session every Sunday morning. LOL! My question is about your folders aligned with Fundations for small group. You mentioned how you use the folder for your on level kiddos. What do you use with your below or above benchmark students? And is there a folder for each lesson in the Fundations unit?

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually use those with all my students! I will just use the decodables that a lower or more advanced group need! Each bin includes a bunch of decodables for the 14 fundations units we teach in first grade. So the first bucket has decodabls and lessons/activities with some very beginning CVC words that I will use with my lower groups! My above benchmark students move up a bit and I also use some grade level texts from Reading AZ with them as well!

    I love the Fundations slides you shared for the sounds. Would you be able to add the R-Controlled sounds? I see there is a heading for them, but the sound cards are not included. Or can you share with me how I can find them? My district doesn't use Fundations, but these are so much better than what I currently have.
    Thank you! Have a great week!

    Hi Susan.Thanks for everything you share. I have taught prek all my life and have been recently moved to first. So you help has been great.
    I have a question why do you use both heggerty and fundations

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Heggerty is stricltly a phonological/phonemic awareness curriculum where students will listen to and manipulate sounds they hear in words. It only takes about 10 minutes. Phonics is the direct instruction of sounds and symbols (letters). Fundations is the curriuculum we use to teach that. It is set up in a systematic way and teaches students all the sound-symbol patterns we would typically teach at this age!

    I would love to see/hear about your class management. I also would like to know more about how you do dictation. Do you do it whole group? Do they have a notebook they use? I would love some ideas. Thank you! I love your videos and resources.

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We do dictation whole group with whiteboards. To spice it up, we often play "showdown" where students hide their board from the person across from them as they write, then I say "3, 2, 1.. SHOWDOWN!" and they show their partner their board and check both with mine. If they get it correct, they high 5. If it is incorrect, they fix it, then high 5!

    Hi Susan, I love your products and have been purchasing them for the past two years. I looped with my students to 3rd grade and I'm missing being able to get resources from you. Is there someone you could recommend that have similar videos and products on TPT for 3rd grade?

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Thank you so much - I have received this question before, and I hate to say it but I honestly don't know too much about the 3rd grade and up realm of teachers!! I will keep this in mind though and if I find someone who does TH-cam videos or shares 3rd grade ideas often, I will let you know! Anyone reading this, please feel free to comment suggestions below!!

    Hi Susan, we have school through the 22nd also and we will not transition to holiday mode until the week of December 18.
    I love your calendar cards for your wipe board and would love to use them in my classroom. Where can I find them?

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same! We can't transition too early or I will lose them!! Unfortunately I had made those over the summer real quick in Canva and never saved them! Many have asked though, so I plan to sit down during break and re-make them so others can use them!

    Hi Susan! I hope you are feeling better I can relate. We are starting Heggerty Monday in my classroom. My question is how did you organize and store everything that came in that huge Heggerty box. I am overwhelmed with everything we got lol. I emptied the box out that's as far as I got lol. So in your class you have a phonemic awareness program and phonics? We had Scholastic for Phonics and Heggerty for Phonemic awareness but we were told not to use Scholastic anymore which has me concerned.

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! We have Heggerty for phonemic awareness and Fundations for phonics! For Heggerty all I have is the manual - I don't believe I have a box with items!
