I'm not very studious so fall short in chemistry where you need to retain a lot of information, compared to physics and maths where you can use first principles and logic to deduce answers/learn a method and apply it in different situations.

      Not entirely true. A 2008 study from Durham looked at 250,000 a level results and used the Rasch model to compare predicted grades Vs actual grades. Based on this large study researchers deduced the hardest A levels where Chemistry, Maths and Physics, while the easiest were Media studies and business studies. Empirically, some A levels are harder.
      Doing A level physics is like asking someone to climb Ben Nevis. It's going to be tough even if you are a brilliant climber.
      If you are on crutches, are obese and have poor eye sight, climbing up a small hill might seem incredibly difficult and just as challenging as the experienced climber who goes up Ben Nevis. If you ask the person on the crutches to go up Ben Nevis, it would seem almost impossible to them.
      So in a similar way I get that someone who has limited academic potential may feel Business Studies or Sociology is the toughest thing in the world. To someone with high academic potential chemistry or physics will seem as tough. Just because someone struggles with Media Studies or Art doesn't mean they are empirically tougher though. A student who struggles to pass business's studies is unlikely to get anywhere near a pass A level maths.

    • @colinjava8447
      @colinjava8447 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeacherToolkitDemo Its subjective, but you can look at it statistically.
      Like ask a load of students what they think is the hardest subject, or the hardest subject they are studying.

    • @TeacherToolkitDemo
      @TeacherToolkitDemo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Music is way harder than people think, with the current exams you have to learn over 50 songs from set works (their features and specific evidence from the pieces, also how they're relevant), you have to understand the terminology, write 2 essays that are perfectly structured and have wider listening links to each point, which means you not only have to study the set works but be able to apply wider listening to them as well. And that's just the paper 😂 you have to do compositions and do a recital that lasts around 10-12 minutes, I'm kind of glad it's on this list though 😂

    Very much appreciate how they recognise the difficulty in music.
    I am an accomplished musician and with my music exam board, we are expected to learn ridiculous and minute details, as well as our knowledge spanning from 16th century historical and contextual influences of music, all the way to electronic music and how sound systems work- I.e. delving into music technology.
    The reason Music is considered soft is because many people recon we sit around a camp fire strumming on guitars all lesson, when in reality it’s a highly academic subject requiring rigorous skills. And facilitating subjects are bullshit, because a level English Literature is so much easier than music a level imo.

    • @mousysaint9143
      @mousysaint9143 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      English literature is honestly one of the easiest subjects around. You just read a bit, think for 10 seconds and just pick up a few random quote to help. At least in History you have to memorise minute detail over 300 years .

    I did EngLit; I had the most breakdowns over it. It can make you feel so dumb, especially if you're aiming for an A or A* as a final result (like I was). It's not an objectively-based subject, it's extremely subjective and variable. It's draining and challenging, and requires you to be very perceptive over the smallest thing. I can do the same thing consistently, and get an A, but then a C the next week. I'd only advise those who did well in it for GCSE, to do it at A Level.

    Now I am Spanish and got an A* but I saw 90% of people drop Spanish at A2 from AS. Furthermore, simply being Spanish did not mean it was a walk in the park. I actually had to work harder. And use formal Spanish language, which I never used at home.
    Also the jump from Gcse to A-level is super misleading, and many A* gcse students struggled in a level. As you're simply not taught enough to jump in the a level pool.

Then again, that's just my experience as I kept 5 subs including the three you mentioned. If you aren't good at maths or if you found yourself performing better at languages, history, business etc in the past years...then it's the worst combination for you, you could even fail.
