- Hey rail-fans! I had to hunker down and just shove off to build this bridge for my layout. It took awhile and it's not perfect. But, it looks pretty good if you don't look to close LOL! Drop me a comment and tell me what you think!

Looks super cool, screw whatever everyone else thinks, my theory is, if it serves my purpose and I like it, that’s all that matters period. Keep railin buddy 🙏🏻
Yeah -- whose bridge is it, anyway? ( ;
Thanks Eric! And you're exactly right IMHO! Rail-on!
Great job! You're my favorite model railroader TH-camr! You're sense of humor cracks me up!
Thanks my friend! Appreciate the encouragement!
Looks good Steve. One suggestion....
constructing anything that represents timber construction, prestain the wood before building the model. Then you don't have to worry about the glue messing up the ability to stain it.
You did a fantastic job. It looks awesome.
Thanks Stuart! "See" you soon!
I'm building my first model railroad at 72. I like your attitude. I'm trying to avoid making the hobby all consuming because then it becomes "work". Subscribed!
Steve: If I have learned anything from your wisdom is that ...Never allow the rivet counters to decide "Your" railroads looks. AS long AS you are happy with it. If that's not scary...I don't know what is...LOL. Besides, you can always Gomez Adams the bridge, and that would make a great video !
Hoping that You and your bride had a great New Years !
Hey Jeff! I will admit, I spent a bunch of time considering what the RC's would think before finely saying F-it! It's my railroad! LOL! Thanks brother.
Following from the UK and really enjoy your updates. You must have the patience of a saint to achieve such a great looking bridge, congrats!
For a regular guy who is mostly all thumbs it looks really good. It has a rustic charm to it Steve.
"Mostly" all thumbs? Bah! I've lost more skin doing railroads than I ever did in construction, LOL!
Nice looking bridge. Thanks for sharing your techniques. Stay safe and "Rail On" my friend!!
Hey Larry, you're still the man, and thanks! All the best to you and yours in 2025.
FYI as a guy who grew up building balsawood airplanes, layer up your build surface starting with cork board, a rough plan ofwhat you're building, and the parchment paper. Pin it all in place. Then you can pin your work pieces in place as you build it up keeping them firm while drying.
Even if you don't have a detailed plan, you can still have references for 90 degrees etc.
Came out looking great, trying to make it easier for you in the future.
I got several takes from this video. First is to just get started and overcome your fears. Second is to have a goal in mind to work toward. Third is to try to make your pieces as consistent as you can given your available tools and manual skill level.
Hey Steve, what an awesome job. Those bridges will be amazing. For eyeballing, that is real straight and yes, will look more realistic. Thanks for sharing and rail on. Ken
Well SOMEBODY agrees with me LOL! Thanks Ken, and thanks for being a part all these years. All the best in 2025!
Hi Steve, just came in from snow blowing the driveway, up at 5 done at 7.30, fed the birds and squirrels, now the day is mine to work on my layout. It's good to see you again. I like the eat the elephant 🐘 one bite at a time. Also enjoy the way you work...your way, the regular guy way. Your trestle bridge is looking fantastic.
I remember when I first started out, I got some advice from a wise man, and it ha stuck with me. He would say.."it's my railroad".. changed the way I went about mine.
Thanks for that Steve...Rail on my Friend.
Now to go paint some buildings...lol. 🇨🇦
Nice to see the master getting going now. Looks good to me Steve 😊
Bah! If you want to see the master, here's a link: www.youtube.com/@BoulderCreekRailroad I'm just a regular guy. Thanks my friend!
Boy Steve, those drunk hillbillies have gotten way more skilled. They did a real nice job for ya there buddy. 🤣👍
My HO double-track two-arch stone viaduct (29.5" & 31.5" radius) has cork roadbed on Homasote on a foam core & is removable. It's been operational for a few years, but is on the back burner for detailing. I'm doing it at MY pace! ;-)
I actually decided to build a small bridge over a creek with the track in place already similar to how you did this one. So I can run the layout while building the bridge.
Happy New Year, Steve. It's great to have you back. I've missed your "brand" of modelling; it always makes me smile. 👉"Rail on"
I am a follower of the "one elephant bite at a time" philosophy...my problem is I'm running out of elephants, but I'll cross that bridge at some point in the future. Consider a thru-deck bridge supported by the same style of piling supports for the up-front bridge.
Rail On Brother!
Yo, C! Can you send me an example of what you're talking about? Great to see you old friend!
great job Steve
Thanks Ron!
Well said Steve! I think it looks great and it will look even better when you add scenery.
Happy new year to all railers out there! Looking great Steve. And I agree with you that sometimes you just have to start and not plan every detail. This helped me just enjoy my railroad instead of stressing over things needing to be 'perfect'.
Hi Steve, your analogy of "1 bite at a time " is something I use all the time. Apart from HO modelling, I'm nearly finished a 1.5 inch scale , 4-8-4, Northern Pacific live steamer. ( Yeh, I know I'm an Ozzi, but I like Yankee steamers) and the elephant eating is bang on!
Love your bridge too.😊
Great to see you back in the hobby room Brother,
Rick B.
Rick, you old dog! Great to see you. Have an awesome 2025!
Nice bridge, thanks for uploading. I've a small drawer of trestles I've built & never put into a bridge.
It's not the bridge as much as building something IMHO. Thanks for the comment, and rail-on!
Maybe a wooden old bridge on back,..and a very new metal/concrete bridge representing maybe a new rail line ran.
That's something like I'm thinking. The bridge in front was replaced by something modern but no one wanted to pay to upgrade the one in the back. Thanks!
Hi, Steve. I think it looks great. Bruce in Minnesota
Bruce, I so appreciate the encouragement! Rail-on my friend!
Outstanding video, Steve. Thanks for posting again.
Seriously Steve you need to charge for your therapy session videos, its what a lot of folks need excellent😉😊👍👍👍👍 as always cheers
great job looks good from here. i like yuour methods. i am stuck getting scenery going and you do it. SO THERE
You're in luck! In a few weeks I'll make a fool of myself setting scenery for these two bridges. Perhaps you can learn what NOT to do LOL! Thanks Doug, and rail-on!
Lov the bridge Thank you for the update * Happy Rails *
Love a good looking hand made wooden trestle! well done. Definitely worth it. Thanks for sharing!
Good job Steve buddy .. I think it looks awesome..and your right it's your railroad.. thanks for sharing buddy..
I know what you mean, Steve. I built two towers for two bridges that were side by side and didn't know how I was going to get them to work. So I shoved off and went for it. They came out good in my opinion. Sometimes you just have to go for it. Looking good Steve.
Happy New Year Steve!
LOVE IT!!! Keep going! I wanna see some sculpamold/plaster cloth next.
That looks pretty cool in fact I built something similar in ho on my layout and believe me its not square but good enough to make it work. You won't notice it in fact I had positive comments. One thing I learned is that nothing is perfect, you can come close in the construction world but the earth moves so go figure 😁.
Awww, you and me are "tracking:" brother! Thanks Ben!
Thanks for sharing your elephant and how you ate it 😮
Looks great from my house!!!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Bridge looks cool Steve..thanks for sharing 👍
Steve, it's a nice trestle. I can't wait to see the terrain develop around it. Regards, Stephen.
The bridge is awesome. Happy New Year and Rail On.
Cool Brother and FUN is the word !! Happy 25
Love the intro with the beer!
Some do. Some don't. But that's how I rail LOL!
@@ItsMyRailroad Lol keep up the good work !You made my day😀
I use wooden match sticks(cutting of the match heads) and toothpicks. Love your techniques. Helps me out. Thanks, great informative vlog.
Great to have you back Steve… always enjoy your vids
It was good seeing another video. I have heard the thing you are nervous about doing called the lick the toad project. just jump in and lick the toad and get it over with after that things flow easier. I hope you are doing well and can't wait to see how your layout shapes up through this year.
I licked a toad once. I now call her my ex-wife! Bah! Rail-on my friend!
@@ItsMyRailroad LOL don't let her see this :P lol
Looking good! (I have your books, too.)
Glad you are still going strong man. I guess the last part applies to me wanting to draw and paint. you cant just have the perfect thing come out of the sky onto the page. a lot of little bites are involved.
Happy New Year. Got many plans, maybe too many. Just have to start.
Just shove off is what I'm trying to say. We're not saving the planet here! Rail-on!
Great all around and I would argue is above what I think a 'regular guy' would lol
OH, grab yourself a pair (or 4) 1-2-3 blocks (wielding tool/equipment).
They pretty cheap and never will replace -they are SO useful for crafting that is your wheelhouse (need a stiff 90 degree, need weight, need base with holes to stick things in, need 1 or 2 or 3 inch reference, and so on)
great see vlog out thanks for share keep up the great vlogs
Looking good Steve, the other bridge wasn't bad either. Remember a sophisticated Hillbilly is called a Hill Willaim. Have a great 2025.
Hello, I am Hill William. This is my sister... she is also my wife. What?! Never mind, pass the jug! LOL! Thanks Rob!
Hey Steve. Excellent lesson there. Stop thinking about it and try something!
Great step by step the regular way.
I swear we're brother-twins. Your method of just jumping off is mine, itshow it tookme about 1.5 years of dreaming and scheming a helix but said "just start, it won't be perfect" and within about a month the helix was in and running exactly as 'planned '. Perfect, far from it but it works for me. And guess what i just began to build? - a wooden bridge! Too creepy, we work on our projects and in sync too.
Love your work and videos. Rail on, I'm with ya!
All hail the regular guy, I think you did a great job there Steve keep up the good work 👍👍
Hey, good to have you back. Have an awesome 2025. I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Job has nothing on you my friend. My single malt would be long gone before I was half finished. Your trestle looks fantastic and well up to my standards. Ron
That looks awesome mate, 1st rule of model railroading is the 3ft rule, think once it's painted & weathered nobody's going to notice what's wrong with it, god knows if people really looked at my layout they'd be WTF...but as you say it's mine and if I like it who cares, love seeing you back putting out videos...👍👍👍
Looks great!
Chuckle. I also agree... It's my railroad, I'm going to do what I want to do. If it looks good to me it looks good. 50 years ago I had an Arnold Rapido Pacific 4-6-2 steam locomotive. I carved a daylight style tender out of balsa wood.... And hand painted it with spray cans and paint brushes to the Southern Pacific daylight colors. I still have it today, it looks a little funky.... But I still love it. Keep the videos coming Steve. We love hearing from you.😅😊❤
It is so good to see you🤠👋🚂🗯
At my age, it's good to be seen LOL! Thanks Larry!
Love it Steve, you are the man, rail on
Pure Poetry... Great Episode...
Looks good to me. I don't see too many things in "real life" that look perfect anyway, so I figure the imperfections in my modeling just makes it more realistic. And, that attitude covers a multitude of sins! One bite at a time!!!
If ya squint, it's mint!!
@6:05 you were mentioning that you once used "white" glue to construct your bridge... You're RIGHT - Bad idea!
Never use CA glue either because CA glue is notorious for prematurely letting go... The best to use is carpenters grade glue...once dried, water doesn't effect it.
Yep, and that's where I went. Looks like we're tracking. Thanks Will!
LOOKS GOOD FROM MY HOUSE!! 😁
I'm kinda like you , I think it, I build it, then fix it, then tweek it , then I smile and say.. I DID IT !
Personality is in the creation..
Keep having fun ..
Hi Steve & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Steve & Friends Randy
Who does it better than Steve...NO BODY! Rail on my friend.
OMG, this is my first video of yours I have seen. You are my spirit modeler. You literally could have been describing how I do this. With many "Oh F$&$ moments"
Steve...Your Videos and Modeling Skills are Awesome. You Give Soo Much Inspiration To Average Modelers. Thank You.
I have one Question. I watch your trains go up and down 4% grades with ease... what is your secret. Others say anything over 2% is risky.
I'm just starting out as an n scale modeler and I am gathering all the info and advice I can.
Thank You
I haven’t seen a lot of content from you lately. Have you scaled back your videos? Cheers 🍻. Love your stuff.
Hey Patrick! Ran into some scheduling snags but I'm pretty sure I'm back in business now. Hopefully I'll be able to put something up every 2-4 weeks. Thanks for being a fan, and rail-on!
Go with the flow Steve with aloha
Looks good to me. Remember rarailroads all had their own standards.
Yep! On of my mantras is that if you can think of it to fix something on your layout, it probably exists in the real world! Rail-on Jacko!
🇩🇰🇩🇰that a cool bridge🫵🏼🤩 Happy New Year🍺🕺🏼🇩🇰🇩🇰
I thought we were all faking it til we made it?
You should stop drinking while building....what until your done....to get hammered...no....maybe....😊
What? Are you serious? John, I do my best work hammered! LOL! Thanks my friend!
Steve - this layout is not you, nor up to your standards. It is a nice layout, for sure - just doesn't feel like "you". I am just giving you my honest opinion. Can I urge you to tear down this layout now? Please build a new room like you had in your garage - and begin the new layout of your dreams. I know you will do this eventually anyway, Ive been watching you for years. Start now, take your time. Document it all in great detail. Revive your channel. Thank me later
I totally dig your enthusiasm. But I tore out the old one for a reason. Too big. Too hard to maintain. Too much frustration. On the bright side, the 1st lady just told me she knows I will expand this one within a year-or I'll tear it out in three and build a bigger one LOL!
@@ItsMyRailroad I support you no matter what
Sorry I disagree! It's "STEVE'S" RAILROAD!
@@patrickbashara2159 It is! Im just giving my opinion based on watching Steve for like 10 years.
I now why you sing so bad, it's that beer you drink. Yuk dude!
Lose the silly, it does not work
I like it, I respect your approach! Carry on! 🫡👍✌️
