If Adrian Shephard returns to the Half-Life universe he is the last United States Marine left in existence. And probably the only military member thats still alive. Sad to think.

The resistance is mostly compromised of Black mesa incident survivors (which is around 12) civilian's and REMAINING military personel (the count is probably small since most of the military got killed in the seven hour war) 2. the only spies who refused to be ruled by combine as you description suggests are the conscripts a cut faction from the game ALL of the conscripts consisted of human military " adopted " by the combines for lower ranks even lover then combine troopers. and so they went rouge and used their remaining military equpiment against combine (Such as the military apc and the tank in the beta) 3. also hl2 takes place in europe since usa got devasted and american's got relocated to europe hence the american accent's so i doubt any marines survived

I can just imagine this playing against a battalion of Pit Drones, Shock Troopers and Voltigores all tearing apart a bunch of male and female black ops assassins and going after you all at once!! Truly epic music!

Maybe this game will remind Valve that Adrian exists, and they’ll reach back out to Arkane. Valve surely didn’t burn the bridge enough to where the talented people over there would be against finishing episode 4 (now a standalone experience(?)) in Source 2.
I got a plot idea for Half Life 3: the Gman plans to make Gordon and Shephard kill each other to find out who's the best investment. But they will only manage to injure each other and both become useless. So the Gman discards them into a shitty alternate reality where Shephard teaches Gordon to survive eating alien meat and Gordon thrives using his theoretical physics and most recent portal experience to build themselves a way out. Somehow they both gain the ability to fade in and out of reality and become able to stand up to the Gman's organisation. But after freeing humanity from any alien threat, they still have a score to settle. Darn, I would play this. I'm so awesome. Thank you, no problem.
A bit too cheesy though, and may or may not contradict with Gmans plans and intentions-- these 2 assets could've been utilized infinitely better in other ways than just killing off one and potentially both, it's a stupid idea in hindsight which is something that G-man would absolutely be aware of. Also, the whole alternate reality idea is just too silly.
I know we got Half Life Alyx, but seriously, Valve has got to start working on the next Half Life game, we’ve already lost one of the classic voice actors.

Zombies ate your buddies and only one weapon you have is a small shovel which fits good at your hand bc you are a kid and military mistakes you as a zombie.
But scp and half life are so similar and both so good, bcs you are an employee in an underground facility full of aliens and monsters and scientists when the monsters escape and loads of special military codes bust in and shoot you up
