    New Vids Weekly!
    Here is a mixtape recapping some of Patrick Ewing's career in the NBA.
    Nick-named the 'Hoya-Destroya' and 'Beast of the East', Ewing was an incredibly fierce, mean and intimidating player, striking fear into many opposition players.
    Patrick Ewing, in full Patrick Aloysius Ewing, (born August 5, 1962, Kingston, Jamaica), Jamaican-born American basketball player and coach who was one of the dominant stars of his era, primarily while playing for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
    He was drafted with the first overall selection of the 1985 NBA draft by the Knicks, who had earlier that year won the first NBA draft lottery ever held. Ewing was touted as a “franchise-saving” player as soon as he joined the Knicks, and the young player quickly became the focus of intense media pressure. Over the course of his career, he was selected as an NBA all-star 11 times and led the Knicks to 13 play-off appearances in his 15 years with the team-including a trip to the 1994 NBA finals-but he ultimately failed to lead the Knicks to a title. He also set a number of Knicks franchise records, including points scored, rebounds, and blocked shots.

    When I was young I didn’t appreciate his jumper now in 2021 when every big wants to shoot 3’s I’m like damn Pat would’ve been killin in this era.

      Man. This is truth. He'd be a top player in the league like he was in his prime. He'd rain jumpers all day. He could shoot 3s too. Just they didn't use the line much back then.

      No one appreciated his jumper back then. We wanted our centers like Olajuwon and Shaq but now centers are like Ewing. He would do very well in today's game. His jumper was money.

    Ferocious and well rounded, if it wasn’t for his injury in 1999 playoff, Knicks might had won the ring.

    Pat Ewing is my all-time favorite player. MJ is the G.O.A.T., but he played with 3 HOF players, and a HOF coach. Ewing kept New York relevant for years, with far less help. Great mixtape!

      So how do you explain Jordan’s first three-Pete ? How many hall of famers were in that team? Jordan carries Chicago since the day he came in. 🤷‍♂️

    • @bbthompson05
      @bbthompson05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "MJ is the G.O.A.T." In no way did I discredit his airness. I was speaking in terms of career, not when the Bulls were in their heyday. If you take Pippen from the Bulls, Jordan's fingers are nude. That was my point, Ewing never had a Pippen in his career, which is why he is MY favorite player. Before Pip, Jordan scored alot, but didn't win alot. Ewing ALWAYS won, no matter who was on the squad. Film don't lie.

    • @josephguillen5655
      @josephguillen5655 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bbthompson05 I know exactly the point you were trying to make. My point is, that the credit you’re saying about Ewing actually fits Jordan better. Jordan only played without pippen for 3 years and he was already turning the bulls organization around before pip so I can’t agree with your statement. Not taking anything away from Ewing, but it was Jordan that demanded greatness from all of his team mates. Jordan would have won rings in any team that he would have landed in. Every star player needs help. No one can do it alone. And lastly, when did Ewing make the NBA finals? In 94, when Jordan took his first retirement. Just saying.

    I get choked up watching this but he was our giant in New York City he examplified NY completely fierce but yet with class and dignity as well as humble. You know your the man when black jesus Michel air Jordan and the diesel shaq O'Neal acknowledge your greatness. Watching this new era and my Knicks go from the ewing era in the 90s to becoming basketball purgatory I wish we was back in those days.

    Ewing would kill today's NBA. He can score inside and has a sweet mid-range jumper which could easily become a deadly 3 if he practiced it. Plus his tenacity on defense especially with his ability to time blocks. I was always a MJ Bulls fan but still liked Ewing as one of childhood faves.

    I was a big Ewing fan back in the day and very happy to see a mixtape like this. I would admit I was a Ewing fan and did not really understand how great he really was.
    When I start to understand the greatness of Ewing is when I start to learn about the impact of offence threats on a team.
    It makes me sick to my stomach after rewatching some older games and analysing them. I feel Ewing was better than Jordan to be unhonest after studing the old games. And I am not refering to mixtapes which only shows the good highlights. Them bulls championship teams was much better than people really understand. I followed a series where the knicks shut Jordan down in 1993 and the knicks might have sweep the bulls if Jordan was the only go to option in 1993. The knicks was up 2-0 in the series and in game 3 had Jordan shutdown again but this is when I realize the kind of help Jordan had. The bulls carried Jordan lead by Scootie Pippen to turn the momentum of the series. The bulls was stacked with guys who could hit midrange to 3 pointers. So the bulls would swing the ball and anyone that had a good look for a jumper was hitting.
    On the other hand Ewing was like the only reliable midrange shooter for the Knicks. The other guys knew they could shoot so they forced they way to the hoop to be denied by the bulls. Everytime Ewing touch the ball the bulls send a double and triple team after him to force the ball out of his hands. So Ewing hand to deal with constant double and triple teams.
    The part that had me upset the knicks could not double and triple team Jordan like how the Bulls did to Ewing because the Bulls was stacked with shooters.
    So people praise Jordan for the many championship but many I doubt realize that teams could not really double and triple team Jordan the way they would double and triple team Ewing. This is the impact offence help have on teams. The team that have offensive help allow players to get easier shots because if you put all your defensive atention on one player the others players will get easier looks and when those others players who get the essier looks are hitting you have to take some pressure off the guy you was so worried about.
    This is what Jordan had players around him who could hit shots when you try to pressure him too much. So teams could not really put too much attention on just Jordan.
    In otherwards I am saying because Ewing never had nowhere near the help Jordan had Ewing had to deal with far more pressure than Jordan did through his carrier. So guess what happens Ewing would average way more points if he was facing the same pressure that Jordan did.
    Having said that I know for a fact if Jordan was double and triple teamed everytime he touch the ball to force him to give it up his scoring would have been way lower than it was.
    So because be Ewing played under more pressure than Jordan, I have more respect for Ewing.

    • @u-mixtapes
      @u-mixtapes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ewing was great. No question. The bulls didn't really have an answer for him but had many options unlike the knicks.

    I WANT everybody to know these things about me, so that they can understand where, when and HOW I grew up: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I was PUMPED when the Sonics got Pat Ewing in 2000! I knew that he wasn't the 25ppg Ewing at that time, but I certainly thought that he could have been 15 ppg, 9 rpg Ewing. Gary Payton's the one who messed it up for Ewing. Anyway, I used to LOVE shooting "Pat Ewing Jumpers" and "Pat Ewing Turnaround Jumpers" during shootarounds! In a pre-season, free open scrimmage at Key Arena for the Sonics, whenever Pat Ewing scored, the WHOLE crowd cheered for him! That shows you how happy we were, that he came to Seattle!

      I'd have to agree. Athletic level, contrary to popular belief, hasnt changed that much since the 70s. Ewing was an insane Athlete for a 7 footer, he Hakeem and Robinson were great athletes. People think that somehow we have bread a new type of super human that only exists in the 2010's lol. Yes today professionalism and how players look after their bodies is more advanced, but overall athletic prowess is more or less the same. My question is this to all the new age casual fans who think todays players are far and above better: If todays players are so much better, than why is it that literally 3-4 teams contending for the Championship each year and the rest are making up numbers?

      John got ejected from the game. Pat letting him know that he was needed on the court, not in the locker room.

    It's showing Patrick Ewing in beginning of video before he injuried his leg multiple times. 90s NBA Ewing is not close to as fast as pre-injury Ewing. Also could not as easy.
    If not injuried Patrick Ewing would have averaged easily a extra 4 or 5 PPG in his career and a extra 2 to 4 RPG.
    In college he was more athletic than Hakeem ever was. As in speed and jump.
    Hakeem had better footwork.
    In NBA after Ewing was injuried Hakeem had more speed, better jump and better footwork and easily out matched Hakeem.
    But in college Ewing faster and better jumper was better than Hakeem.
